Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, April 30, 2009

April 30, 2009 by

Spend some time cleaning out that DVR this morning because there’s a good chance that little machine is going to have to do some pretty heavy lifting tonight.  A Thursday night full to the brim with TV goodness.

I have plans after work so I’m already dreading the late night ahead of me.  This whole having a life thing doesn’t bode well with my GMMR duties.  Geesh.

For all your fans, UGLY BETTY returns tonight after a mini-hiatus.  ABC brought the show back to the schedule earlier than expected so YAY if you’re a fan.  I’ve been a little off BETTY for a while but I’ll probably watch tonight.  The storylines were just becoming so so repetitive that I was getting annoyed.  But, a girl can only go so long without a Marc and Amanda fix, so I’ll check it out.

Looking forward to the 1-2-3 punch of PARKS & RECREATION, THE OFFICE and 30 ROCK. Oh and I guess the 4 punch (although it doesn’t quite sound as good) of SOUTHLAND.  Here’s to hoping P&R kicks it up a little this week.  And if you’re not watching SOUTHLAND you should consider giving it a shot.  I’m not for cop shows but this one is pretty decent.

If you’re looking for HARPER’S ISLAND tonight you’re not going to find it.  CBS moved the show to Saturday.  Execs say it’s because the online streaming numbers & the DVR numbers are so high.  Seems people want to watch the show but just can’t do it on Thursday nights. Interesting.

That and much much more tonight on a TV near you.

Ugly Betty | 8pm on ABC
“The Rabbit Test”
The Suarez family meets Matt’s father at his renowned Easter egg hunt; Wilhelmina starts to think that William might not be her biological son.

Survivor: Tocantins | 8pm on CBS
“They Both Went Bananas”

One castaway adopts an honest approach to the game but winds up in trouble with everyone; two castaways scramble to save themselves and then turn on each other; one castaway is sent home.

Bones| 8pm on Fox
“The Beaver in the Otter”
The body of a fraternity brother is discovered inside a rival school’s mascot uniform; Booth tries to help his brother find a new job. [GMMR: In case you missed it, Seelebaby shared the transcript from her recent conference call with BONES star Emily Deschanel]

Smallville | 8pm on The CW
“Beast”
Clark discovers Davis is alive and confronts Chloe about her role in hiding him. Meanwhile, Oliver and Jimmy are attacked by Davis at Chloe’s apartment.

Parks and Recreation | 8:30pm on NBC
“Boys’ Club”
Leslie faces an ethical dilemma when she tries to break into the “old boys’ club” of politics. Elsewhere, Andy (Chris Pratt) plans a surprise for Ann.

The Office | 9:00pm on NBC
“Casual Friday”
Michael must settle a dispute within the sales team; employees cause trouble when they take the term “casual” Friday too loosely. [GMMR: A whole episode of Jim Halpert in every day clothes. Count me in.  The promos looks pretty funny…can’t wait!]

Supernatural | 9pm on The CW
“The Rapture
Castiel visits Dean in a dream and tells him he has important news. Dean and Sam set out on a search for Castiel, only to find his human vessel, Jimmy, who yearns for a normal life and to return to his family.

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“Not Good at Saying Sorry (One More Chance)”
Izzie gets a surprise visit from her mother (Sharon Lawrence); Thatcher tries to make amends with Meredith and Lexie; Meredith and the Chief argue over a controversial case. [GMMR: Week number two of solid GREY’S ANATOMY.  Sharon Lawrence, who seems to always play the unstable mother these days, is greatly irritating as Izzie’s mom.  Tune in.]

30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC
“The Natural Order”
Tracy decides to start acting like a professional; Jack’s mother reveals unpleasant memories about Jack’s father; Jenna gets a pet gibbon.

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“Yours, Mine and Ours”
Violet chooses between Sheldon and Pete; Dell is concerned for his daughter when a drugged-out Heather comes back to town; Naomi wonders if she should stay at Oceanside Wellness [GMMR: Please oh please let this mean that Dell gets his daughter back.  I’m sick of the angry Dell storyline.  I want Chris Lowell to have something to do.  As we saw last week the guy has the chops — give him something to play!]

Southland | 10pm on NBC
“Sally in the Alley”
An unidentified woman is found dead in an alley; Nate’s little sister goes missing and secrets from his past are revealed. [GMMR: FYI – SOUTHLAND star Michael Cudlitz is on Twitter.  Follow him @cudlitz.]

Also playing…

  • My Name is Earl | 8:00pm on NBC: A news show comes to Camden to investigate when the owner of the Crab Shack goes missing. [GMMR: Who is still watching EARL?!]
  • CSI | 9:00pm on CBS: The CSI team is baffled by an unexplained illness that affects random citizens of Las Vegas.
  • Hells Kitchen | 9:00pm on Fox: Chef Ramsay prepares dishes for the contestants to taste and re-create; a proposal is planned during the dinner service.
