Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, May 7, 2009

May 7, 2009 by

We’ve made it to Thursday. Congrats to all. Thursday’s a big TV night so I hope you’re resting up and drinking lots of fluid.

I probably won’t get to watch Thursday night TV until really late tonight or maybe tomorrow morning. I’ll be heading down to CT after work and fully expect to be sitting in some traffic. The downside – missing watching live TV. The upside – spending the entire weekend with my sister and her family!

Save CHUCK on CNN
Assuming there is no breaking news to bump the segment, Gray from the Chuck vs. the Podcast will be on CNN between 1-2pm today talking about the Save CHUCK campaign. Rumor has it that Zachary Levi and/or Josh Gomez might be on as well.  Tune in.  Save CHUCK!

BONES Live Chat Tonight!
A quick note before we get into tonight’s show. We’ll be hosting a LIVE BONES CHAT during tonight’s episode. Our resident BONES expert Seeleybaby will be on hand to moderate the chat. Join other BONES fans and watch together! The chat will get started a few minutes before 8pm. Set up an email reminder below so you don’t miss out!

Bones| 8pm on Fox
“The Critic in the Cabernet”
Brennan asks Booth to be the father of her child; Stewie Griffin (Seth MacFarlane) offers the couple advice. [GMMR: How can you not join in on a live chat during an episode where Stewie makes an appearance?!]

Ugly Betty | 8pm on ABC
“The Born Identity”
Baby William is kidnapped just as it appears billionaire Calvin Hartley (David Rasche) will give the magazine the money it needs; Archie (Ralph Macchio) asks Hilda to be a part of his latest political campaign.

Survivor: Tocantins | 8pm on CBS
“They Ultimate Sacrifice”

One castaway must decide whether to give up personal comfort to benefit the rest of the tribe; a tricky immunity challenge puts the contestants’ brains and brawn to the test as they battle for a spot in the final five.

Smallville | 8pm on The CW
“Injustice”
Chloe asks Clark to kill Davis; Tess assembles a team of meteor freaks to search for Davis. [GMMR: Anyone have any questions for Cassidy Freeman who plays Tess on SMALLVILLE? Leave questions in the comments — and pass it on to other SMALLVILLE fans.]

Parks and Recreation | 8:30pm on NBC
“The Banquet”
Leslie makes an impression at a banquet honoring her mother; Mark and Tom go to a bar to pick up women. [GMMR:I’ve decided I would like P&R a lot more if it weren’t juxtaposed with THE OFFICE.  It’s just a little too much.]

The Office | 9:00pm on NBC
“Cafe Disco”
Michael brings dancing and coffee to the office; Jim and Pam plan a secret trip. [GMMR: I will not let the promo excite me. I will not let the promo excite me. NBC, I’ve been burned. I will not be burned again.]

Supernatural | 9pm on The CW
“When the Levee Breaks”
Bobby and Dean trap Sam in a panic room so he can detox from demon blood; Dean and Sam have a major confrontation.

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“What a Difference a Day Makes”
Derek and Meredith get ready for their wedding; college students injured in a car accident are admitted to the ER; Izzie starts experiencing familiar symptoms. [GMMR: The BIG episode. If you haven’t figured out how this is all going down by now then you clearly haven’t been paying attention. Hell, if you look closely even the promos give away the “big twist”. Boring. But on the other hand I can’t wait to watch it all unfold.]

30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC
“Mama Mia”
Tracy and Liz convince Jack to start the search for his real father; Pete and Liz question the motives of Tracy’s newly discovered illegitimate son; Liz and Jenna fight for the spotlight.

Michael J. Fox: Adventures of an Incurable Optimist | 10pm on ABC
The actor travels the globe to talk to people, both famous and not, about the enduring strength of hope; a visit to Bhutan, where the importance of joy is stressed; doctors and scientists share insight on the nature of optimism.[GMMR: I’m a sucker for Alex P. Keaton….and Marty McFly.]

Southland | 10pm on NBC
“Two Gangs”
Salinger’s weapon is stolen by gang members, and Bryant and a reluctant Moretta search for the thieves without reporting the crime. Meanwhile, a man exposes himself to Adams outside her home. [GMMR: FYI – SOUTHLAND star Michael Cudlitz is on Twitter. Follow him @cudlitz.]

Also playing…

  • My Name is Earl | 8:00pm on NBC: Everyone gathers at the Crab Shack to find out the truth behind Ernie Belcher’s disappearance.
  • CSI | 9:00pm on CBS: The team investigates when a motorcycle gang member is murdered at a biker bar.
  • Hells Kitchen | 9:00pm on Fox: The final two chefs get the chance to design their own restaurants.

Bones comes on a night early in Canada so I was lucky enough to see the ep last night. If I’m home in time tonight I’d love to watch it again and join the live chat. Haven’t been to one of those in a couple years.

Holding my breath for The Office. Don’t want to get burned either, GMMR.

I totally agree about Parks & Recreation being placed before The Office. Too much of the same theme. Last week’s episode was incredibly good, funny, well done. I’m hoping it’s starting to find its legs.

I’m with you on The Office. I’m so not getting excited about that promo. It’s not even raising my pulse. Been burned so often, I have NBC peacock scars everywhere.

I’m so glad that I don’t watch commercials for my shows. Why would I ever want to watch the best parts of a show and be spoiled? The commercials are aimed at non-regular watchers of the shows, to try and get them to tune in. I don’t know what I ever did before DVR and even VCR and that BEAUTIFUL fast forward button! Working nights does have some advantages. Everything gets recorded and nothing gets spoiled.

Grey’s was great! I don’t know what the official word is on George and Izzy, but I hope they stay on the show. I really love those characters, as long as they aren’t sleeping together! I think Katherine H. got a bad rap for saying out loud what all the viewers were thinking about her storyline. The writing sucked and now it’s better. Maybe it’s improved partly because she stood up for her character. She also spoke out about “Knocked Up” and I agreed with her assessment. Those kinds of movies with sophomoric humor walk a fine line between being actually funny and just downright insulting. I did not enjoy that movie.
