Who Won AMERICAN IDOL?

It’s here. Tonight’s the night. The IDOLS are dressed all in white (seriously, can’t they do anything original), and they are here to sing.
Adam and Kris are ready and I hope you are too. I’ll be doing my best to live blog some of the highlights of tonight’s 2+ hour event (if you’re watching on DVR I hope you’ve set your DVR to run late, because the show most certainly will be).
8:02pm: Ryan tells us that just under 100 million votes came in last night. Think about it. That’s incredible.
8:03pm: Seacrest introduces the judges with a clip package for each. Per usual the judges get way too much attention. Enough about them.
8:07pm: Adam and Kris take the stage and get the love and support from their hometown crowds. Their mics aren’t working. Oh goodness, it’s going to be a long night.
8:09pm: The Top 13 IDOLS take the stage to sing “So What” by Pink. Yes, their all in white. Allison’s vocals are dominating. Oh good lord it’s Megan Joy – I though you promised we’d never have to see her (or hear from her) again. Jasmine Murray (remember her?) just proved that the only way she made it into the competition was because she was hot. She just embarrassed herself on stage with those vocals. Then again she was in good company. These producers really know nothing about being cool do they? Yikes.
8:14pm: David Cook, in his last few hours as the American Idol, takes to the stage with “Permanent”. You did us proud, David. This happens to be my favorite song of Cook’s album so I appreciate him singing it just for me. You’re the best DC.
[While David’s singing, can I just say that I am shocked that there hasn’t been (a) any hokey movie tie in yet or (b) a hokey appearance by one of the following: Ben Stiller, Jack Black or Robin Williams. For this I am grateful but I acknowledge that the night is still young.]

8:20pm: Oh heavens no! The Golden Idol Awards. Not this again?! I thought they learned their lesson when they ditched this part of the show last season. I’ll tell you this – if I have to sit through this nonsene, there best be a big payoff and that payoff best be named Norman Gentle!!
8:22pm: And there he is! I know some people really hated him but I didn’t. I didn’t think he should have been in the finals, but I think if he took the first week a little more seriously (vocally speaking) the first week then he would have moved. on.
Nick Mitchell takes the stage. Love you Norman! “I wish I knew I was going to be doing this. I’m not prepared…HIT IT!”
“I want that perch – it’s power!”
Someone hire this man. A true diva.
8:26pm: Lil Rounds takes the stage in the first special duet tonight. Lil is singing with Queen Latifah. The Queen must have hired her stylist. That outfit…ouch. Not flattering your Highness. Lil is looking pretty damn fine and about ten years younger than she did when she first auditioned. This duet kind of sucks. Two people singing ont he same stage is NOT a duet.
8:33pm: We’re back from a commercial break and it’s Anoop. Missed you Anoop Dog! Alexis Grace, someone who left the competition way too early, joins him on stage and together the two of them sing along with the fabulous and damn sexy Jason Mraz. I heard Jason was going to be on the show tonight but I was secretly hoping he was going to be dueting with Kris Allen. I think their styles are so similar. Oh well.
The other IDOLS join them on the stage in an effort to completely ruin the song. If it weren’t for Jason they would have done just that. Alan Sepinwall just twittered that the Idols sound like “Kid Bopz” – couldn’t agree more.
8:36pm: Through a montage of moments we are looking at the IDOL journey of Kris Allen. Ryan started it all off by asking all Kris Allen fans in the house to scream. If you didn’t notice that the theater was mostly in their seats then you missed something big. This crowd is definitely all about Adam Lambert.
8:38pm: Kris Allen takes the stage with Keith Urban for a duet of “Kiss a Girl”. If Kris is at all nervous tonight it doesn’t show. He looks more relaxed than I’ve ever seen him. He’s really taking this all in – exactly what he should be doing right now. He’s having a blast.
8:45pm: The ladies of Idol ho it up for “Glamorous”. Someone take that mic away from Megan Joy. Just terrible. Here comes Fergie to hopefully salvage this hot mess. Guys, I am so embarrassed for everyone on the stage. They are SO stuck in their heads. Nothing is natural or organic on that stage. All they are thinking about is the dance steps and when to come in. Really horrible. Fergie helped but not that much.
Let’s see the if the boys from the Black Eyes Peas can help. Hmmm…did perhaps Fergie let a few naughty words slip? Why else would the sound go silent and the camera to the Idol logo? Ah live TV.
For what it’s worth, I’d rather see a Kris Allen/Adam Lambert concert than this.
8:51pm: Back to The Golden Idols. If I close my eyes can I pretend this isn’t happening. Bikini girl gets a few more minutes of TV time. Oh joy. You know these Golden Idols are all a lead up for an appearance by Tatiana del Toro. I know it’s going to happen. I’m bracing myself.
Bikini girl and her new boobs take the stage. “I was going to ask you what’s new but I think I know” – Love you Seacrest! And now we have to listen to her sing. Ears bleeding.
The moment is save by…Kara! This is actually pretty fun. Kara has taken the stage to completely out sing Bikini Girl. Kara just laid the smack down AND she stripped down to her bikini. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but OMG I just fell in love with Kara!!
9:00pm: My girl Allison Iraheta and her bright pink pair is taking the stage with a blonde Cyndi Lauper (huh?). Lauper is a legend. The ladies sound great together. Lil and Latifah – this is how you duet. The ending went a bit off the rails but they rallied.
9:04pm: Kris Allen’s parents could not be nicer. You see where Kris gets his humility. Adam’s family is adorable. His dad looks so young and his brother looks so much like him.
9:05pm: Girls all over the world are screaming right now…The Gokey has taken the stage. He’s singing “Hello” by Lionel Richie. This will forever be a David Cook song for me, but Danny is singing it well (see I can be nice). And as expected, Mr. Lionel Richie joins the stage. That was a lot of fun!
9:15pm: It’s a walk down memory lane for Adam Lambert. What a journey it’s been. Mr. Lambert takes the stage in the most elaborate get up he’s ever worn. Leather and wings – he’s letting it all out tonight. You go! The boydo a little extra to stand out since he’s taking the stage with KISS. Damn!
It’s not just everyone that can hold their own as the front man for KISS. Adam Lambert, you are already a legend! AMAZING!
The votes are already in. If Adam wins tonight i hope he smooched his man on the world’s biggest stage! Take that haters!
[So much IDOL stuff going on lately that it hasn’t hit me yet that tomorrow night is the season premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. You better bet your ass that I’m going to be all over SYTYCD this summer…and the fall. Look for weekly recaps, live result show blogging and special podcasts.]
9:26pm: Carlos Santana takes the stage with Black Magic Woman. Between this and the recently performed “Slow Ride” I feel like Guitar Hero has come to life. I kill on both those songs…at least on the Medium level.
But enough about me, the IDOLS are back. Wait, what? You’d rather read more about me playing Guitar Hero than watch these fools…I get that. Ha! Kris Allen and Adam Lambert are singing along on this one, so let’s pay attention.
I know I keep saying this but Kris is having a BLAST tonight! I think he’s come to terms with whatever is going to happen tonight. It’s awesome!
9:30pm: Last Ford commercial of the year! YES!! It’s time for the boys to get their new Fords. And how sweet was it that David Cook was the one to surprise them and give them the keys.
9:31pm: QUICK EARMUFFS Megan Joy is about to sing. Are you kidding me IDOL. Really? Do you really think that your audience wants to listen to Megan Joy and Michael Sarver sing folk music accompanied by Steve Martin on the banjo. And for what it’s worth, the previous sentence might be the strangest thing I have ever written on this blog. Disaster.
Can’t we just announce the winner already?!
[I can’t believe I’m sick for the IDOL season finale. It might be allergies, but since the school down the street from me has been shut down because of a possible swine flu breakout, I’ve decided that it must be that. I’m not a drama queen…not at all.]
9:39pm: Another group number. At least this time it’s just the guys – they are leaps and bounds better than the girls of IDOL. But oh no, they are singing Rod Stewart…does that mean he is going to come out? Oh no. Please no. You don’t understand, I am so NOT a fan of Rod Stewart. Ugh. He’s there. I respect his place in music history but man I am so not a fan.
9:46pm: And here she is, Tatiana Del Toro. I have nothing more to say.
9:52pm: Not for nothing, but this is what I HATE about the IDOL finale. Why can’t they anounce the winner at 9:50pm so not everything is so rushed.
9:53pm: Kris and Adam take the stage with Queen with “We are the Champions”. Tell me the producers weren’t pulling for Adam Lambert. Kris Allen I love you and you sound AMAZING right now. But sweet god Adam Lambert…there are no words!!! And these two guys sharing the stage and pushing it each other…it was a beautiful thing to watch! I’m sorry, but I need to rewind that and watch it once again. Adam! Damn!
10:00pm: Simon has a few final words for Adam and Kris and he’s nothing but encouraging and kind.
Here come the results! The votes last night were a new world record.
And here we go.

What? Did that just happen? Was this perhaps the biggest upset in the history of the show? I can’t believe that just happened.
Did Kris even want it? Is he just in shock? Simon is so pissed right now. The judges are shocked. I am shocked.
Kris know has to sing “No Boundaries”. He is dreading it. It’s all over his face.
I love me some Kris Allen, you know I do,but as surprising as that finale was it was also a bit anticlimactic. I am in shock. And that iconic final moment with the IDOL and his friends includes Kris and Jorge?!
Kris’s wife joins him on stage as the show fades to black…and finally your American Idol Kris Allen breaks down into tears.
And with that another season of AMERICAN IDOL is over.
On a personal note I want to thank each and every one of you who visited GiveMeMyRemote.com during this IDOL season. We have had record numbers over the past few months and it’s because of YOU! We’ll of course be back covering IDOL next season and I hope you’ll join us.

So far I haven’t really been into any of these performances tonight… the best was Norman Gentle’s, but no one in the crowd responded to him at all!
Just excited to see who wins – completely happy with either. First time I have been thrilled to see either one win. Didn’t bother voting last night because I would have just voted equally for Kris as for Adam – and that would just cancel each other out!
kris and keith— if people would have seen him perform that LAST night he definitely would have gotten all the votes and FOR SURE won!!!
I think Megan Joy forgot how to spell – I was watching her lips and they kinda stopped moving for a while.
I have never been a fan of Megan Joy. Her singing… well, does she even sing? Simon likes her looks, period.

kara can freaking sing! dang and she looked great in a bikini! she sure showed bikini girl!!! hilarious, pretty neat that they bet her she wouldn’t do it so they are going to donate to her fave charity… love it!!!
Instead of singing, they should have just strapped on the boxing gloves and through them in a ring. It would have been more eventful and entertaining.

I hear you Brroke! Although I am a Danny fan, I voted for Kris last night. Adam is good, but his songs begin to all sound the same. You can always expect screaching, screaming, and high pitches.

before they announce the winner, i just have to say…..i’m a kris fan, and i have a feeling he’s going to win but i think adam SHOULD win. i just think he’s ‘too different’ for the average idol viewer.

I liked both the guys but I’m kind of happy Kris won. All we heard all season was how Adam was going to win (which he would have deserved), and I like to root for the underdog. 🙂 That last moment with him crying with his wife was just so sweet.

I am happy for sure as Kris is my guy and am actually not shocked. I took a few polls today including here, GMMR, and they all had Kris winning. I do think Kris was shocked though. Adam will still go far, he deserves it, and I hope he does soar. He’s a class act all the way. Congrats to them both.

I still fail to see why everyone seems to be obsessed with Adam. He’s always felt like a character to me.
I am happy for Kris – Adam actually will probably be much better off having come in the runner up position. I can see why Kris won, especially after tonight: the Keith Urban duet was awesome and Kris is ready for commercial mainstream (or even country). There is no denying Adam’s talent, and the Kiss duet was SO entertaining, but his niche is a little harder to see right now. He’s better free from the idol machine!
Oh, and Kris crying on his wife’s shoulder after winning was adorable.
I honestly feel that NO ONE was more shocked at the results than Kris Allen.
He might not have been your favorite, but there is NO denying that the kid is a class act.

Personally am so happy Kris won! He definitely was more my style of a musician, though I do appreciate Adam’s talent and did like many of his performances. I am surprised Kris won but I can see maybe part of why he did – there was some vocal backlash against Adam because he was so hyped by a lot of people and while incredibly talented, he did tend to scream a lot in his songs and sometimes (only sometimes) his performances sounded all the same (sorry!). But in the end, I don’t think it matters – they both are talented and will both make albums lots of people will buy, just like what happened with David Cook and David Archuleta.
My GOD, I actually do not like Chris A. and is sideways mouth… How does he mack his wife with that thing??? It makes me uneasy. I would rather listen to Adam’s high pitch notes and non-sense any day…… Oh well!

I’m not really sure this should have been a big surprise–it was pretty clear going it that Kris would pick up the Danny G votes since their styles are similar.
As others have already posted, Kris is better suited for the Idol machine than Adam would have been, so in the end, everyone wins.

I am SO glad that Kris won b/c I could not stand Adam and his screaming. He is way out there… Kris was not my first pick but when it came down to the 2 of them he was definately the better choice.

I am THRILLED that Kris won!!
People are saying it was anticlimactic, but I actually thought it would’ve been VERY anticlimactic if Adam had won because he was who everyone thought was gonna win, therefore, Kris’s upset was a very big shock! & not anticlimactic at all!
I think people should stop freaking out about Adam not winning…OBVIOUSLY he is gonna do big things, and he’s OBVIOUSLY already a huge star. He absolutely does not need Idol. & honestly, if he would’ve won, his record would be crap because he wouldn’t be able to have his freedom. Now he can go do whatever crazy stuff he wants (& I’ll buy it!) But Kris will be good as the Idol because his style is way more mainstream & it won’t need to be changed much for his album. I’ve been a Kris fan the whole time & I definitely could hear his stuff on the radio today, while Adam is pretty Broadway & I’m not exactly sure what kind of stuff he will put out.
I’m not hating on either one of them, in fact I’m pretty much LOVING on both of them, but I think people should stop freaking out. If you wanted Adam to win so badly you should’ve voted more! America voted Kris the Idol & that’s how it’s gonna be. Both guys are gonna go on to do completely different, but very amazing things!!

I’m disappointed but I liked Kris too. I just loved Adam from the very beginning. It was hilarious because I recognized him before they announced him from my Wicked playbill. Oh well, there’s always success for the runner up too!
Congrats to Kris. I am happy for him. I liked him from the beginning, but my guy was always Adam. It was a great season and both will go far, hopefully Allison too.
I wish people would stop saying Adam is “Broadway”. What does that even mean? He doesn’t sound Broadway, he sounds ROCK. He will OBVIOUSLY put out a Rock album. Is he Broadway because he knows how to perform and he brings everything to the stage? Just wondering what that term really means.

I really dislike the live finales because they always wait until 1 minute before the end of the show to announce the winner so they can keep the viewers for the whole hour. That gets their numbers for the network, but it shortchanges the winner and runner-up from getting any reactions. It happened on the Biggest Loser, also. Tara was totally ignored after she WAS the show for the whole season and Helen barely got to say anything.
CAN’T WAIT for SYTYCD! So excited that they are having a fall version also!
Best singer didn’t win AI, but he’ll be fine. Same happened on Kath’s favorite, DWTS. Gilles should have won, but Shawn pulled it out. It doesn’t really matter.
Wow! That was not anti-climactic! If pre-ordained winner Adam had one, that would have been anti-climactic. I’ve loved Adam since he auditioned in my beloved City, but Kris has been getting my votes all season. I’m thrilled a lovely, relatable voice won out over theatrical bombast (which has its place, believe me; I’m a musical theatre geek).
I’m even more thrilled that America overcame months of being told who would win. The producers and judges all but forced our fingers to dial for Lil, Danny and Adam (until they realized Lil sucked and couldn’t sing in tune to save her life, then they tossed her aside). Their relentless pimping backfired and I couldn’t be happier.
Adam will be fine, possibly even better off without winning. He’s probably relieved not to be saddled with the dreck that is “No Boundaries.” America loves an underdog, which we saw last night with Shawn Johnson, and again tonight with Kris. That’s good television. Thanks, Kath for your great coverage!

Overall, I, like Kris, was absolutely shocked by the results! I was also led to believe that Adam would win this title easily. When Danny was kicked off and Kris and Adam were the final two, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Kris b/c I figured there would be absolutely no contest. Don’t get me wrong: I’ve been a Kris fan from the beginning (and am also a fan of Adam’s), but I thought Adam’s blasting voice would blow Kris out of the water and take away the win from Kris…easily. I was in total shock when I heard the results. Though I thought that Adam was going to win, I’m glad that he has the freedom to do what he wants now. I’m glad that Kris won b/c he is a talented singer and a wonderful guy. My only problem w/ Kris’ win… He has to sing that HORRIBLE “No Boundaries” song as his first single. Such a ghastly song. Bleh. Poor Kris! As least Adam would have been able to overcome that mess somewhat, but Kris’ first single is THAT?! Sigh. I look forward to both of their cds and will buy both.
Overall… a very looooong, drawn out finale (like usual). Idol Producers: please get rid of the golden idol awards or whatever they are next year and please let some of the singers sing alone (Jason Mraz) at the next finale. And please don’t let Megan ever, EVER sing again. She is just going to ruin that tour…

I think both of these guys are great and will go on to do good things. I also think Adam NOT winning was the best thing for him. He wouldn’t have had the freedom to do his own thing. He will be a star regardless. I think he lost the masses because of the screaming/high notes. His voice is great and he didn’t have to try to break glass every week, but he did anyway. I think if he would have toned it down a bit he would have appealed to the nation better. I love his voice so much more when he holds back and sings the crap out of a song. There is a time and place (mainly the broadway stage and kiss concerts lol) for the screaming high notes. The entire finale was really tailored toward him. Kris singing with Keith Urban was good, but not at all Kris’ genre and Adam gets to sing with KISS?

I think Adam should win. I think he sing better, his voice is better than the other contestants in this season. Kris is also good. But i don’t think he won’t be idol even in my country( myanmar ) . He is not good enough. May be The Americans forget to vote .
There is no way that Kris is better than Adam. I remember Elvis becoming famous. He had that something that made many feel they were actually watching god. Adam is that kind of talent. American Idol is not just the best singer, entertainer etc, it is who is the next Idol. It is the one who has it all and Adam has it. I can’t think of anyone who even closely compares.
Adam had me crying, especially when he was singing with KISS.
His voice range, appearance, and charisma outshines anyone I have saw I a very long time.
I hope he didn’t lose based on his sexuality, which none of knows for sure, and its none of our business. We have idolized many stars throught the years, i.e. Rock Hudson and we didn’t know he was gay. This also is none of our business.
I have never bought an American Idol album. I will buy anything Adam does. Watching him just reminds me of a modern day Elvis.
His voice is from heaven. He also has the ability to use it in many ways and choices of music.
I am all a gaga over him.
I’d likely faint if I met him.
