SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Top 20

Tonight the Top 20 dancers competing this season on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE will be announced. As the judges share the good news with the dancers, I’ll be sure to pass on the news to you. The comments are open so weigh in on the dancers who are cut and the ones moving on to the all important Top 20.
The judges aren’t wasting any time. The dancers are taking the stage to find out their fate.

There you have it. One of these dancers will be the next winner of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
A few notes on tonight’s show. First of all, I have to say that despite it being good television, I thought it was cruel that they final vote for the guys came down to brothers Ryan and Evan Kasprzak. They didn’t have to do that. So sad. Ryan is the man and I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. Maybe we’ll see him back next year. (And by next year I mean this Fall….Ryan better be trying out again this season. He’s so fresh in the judge’s minds that it would be ridiculous for him not to.)
In general I’m a little disappointed at the lack of screen time for so many of the Top 20 – especially the girls. Let’s hope they all look to Kris Allen and his IDOL win for a little inspiration – the judges might not have wanted to give them an extra boost, but it doesn’t mean we can count them out. They’ll just have to work a little bit harder to get our attention.
Next week the competition begins. The guys and the girls are paired up with the partners that they’ll hopefully be with for quite some time. Any dream pairings so far?
Rumor has it that Mia, Shane Sparks and Wade Robson are all going to be on the show next week. So glad to have Wade and Shane back this season in whatever capacity they return.
I can’t wait…until next week!!

yeah, I’m trying to resign myself to losing one of them, not sure which one I want more but I think the one with hair – I don’t know names yet! 🙂
The brothers are soooo good. I hope they both make it.
I’m annoyed that they aren’t showing us the names of the contestants. Frustrating. I’ll be fine with the Top 20 but the montage of dancers cut is killing me. If you know any of their names let me know.

Not a big fan of Brandon, tho, I’m not sure what Mia’s problem with him is. Was a much bigger fan of Natalie, still can’t believe they cut her….

I like Brandon. I really don’t get Mia’ and Lil’ C’s problem with him is, but given that they saw him dance everyday for a week I guess there is something lacking.
I think Mia just can’t read people. Brandon has a nervous smile and she takes it as being cocky. I think she’ll be the first to admit shes wrong about his attitude once she works with him.
By the way… this is so hard flip flopping tween this and Burn Notice, ahhhh!

Tony! Im sure he’s in because they know he’ll generate fan votes. Don’t get me wrong, I love him but there were more talented dancers cut.
Nikky – I agree with you. I think better dancers were cut. I think Tony plays into Nigel’s “casting” plan. And they have to have a few dancers who aren’t as well trained because the audience really needs to see growth (think Dominic, Jailbait!Ivan, etc)

I’m thinking Philip is going to make it through. If that happens then only one of the brothers can make it through.
I think it will be Evan (or Ryan…wait which one is the younger one? I think the younger one will go through).
No if the judges wanted a great TV moment they would offer the older brother a chance to choreograph.

I agree, I’ve been a fan of Alex Wong. Too bad, maybe he’ll be out of his contract by the fall season? My heart is about to be broken when they inevitable split up the brothers, but I agree with Kath, probably will take the younger brother….poop
There is no way they aren’t taking Asuka, they’ve been all about her…and I don’t think I’ve even seen that other girl…(tho, I’ve been a bit underwhelmed with Asuka, don’t really see what all the noise is about) Can’t we just take an 11th guy? They did it this year on Idol….took an extra contestant….I know I’m dreaming….
Saving the brothers for the final spot was cruel. Nigel & the producers should be ashamed.
If anything they should take Evan into the top 20 and hire Ryan to replace Tyce as a show choreographer.
Fall season should be very familiar…
Nikky, I was wondering about that too, if maybe they are purposefully keeping some people for fall – like 17 year old Nathan, hopefully Natalie, and now Ryan.
Kath, my SYTYCD boyfriend will either be Jason or Evan…have to see them both as couples before I decide…
Of the girls, I think Paris looks cute and promising….

I agree that it seems like a lot of the rejected people could make for a great fall season. I want payback for some of my faves (NATALIE).
Kath can we share Tony as our boyfriend? he’s just too cute.
And i thought offering a choreographing job to Ryan would have really ended the evening on a high note…maybe later this season?

Gutted about Ryan… loved him way more than Evan – and I agree that yes it makes good TV putting the two brothers up against each other, but is just plain cruel.
And if you guys all want Tony – can I have Phillip, Jason or Kupono for my SYTYCD TV gboyfriend I haven’t decided which yet!)
Aw, I really wanted them to take Ryan over Tony. I didn’t want them to split up the brothers, especially after Ryan said how hard he’s taken rejections lately. That just broke my heart. I don’t know why I didn’t root for Tony (funny guys are normally my kryptonite) but I just adore the Kasparzaks.
Ryan Kasparzak is my guy. How could I resist that Gene Kelly face? I’ve wanted him on the show since he auditioned last year. So that’s my coupling decision, Ryan with me. I have no idea who I want to dance together on the show, since we don’t know much about the girls yet. Maybe Ryan and Caitlin? I liked her.
Still mourning Ryan K 🙁 I wanted his quirkiness and throwback to Gene Kelly type dancing on my screen every week. I hope he’s on in the fall.
Everyone else is running together for me with just a few exceptions but I trust a fave will emerge for me, they always do.
Now I love Mia I really do but am very mad at her right now. Good for you Mary for putting your foot down.

Gah, when I say Ryan in the second paragraph, I meant Evan. I’m so upset about Ryan not making the top twenty I can’t even type the right names.
So happy that one K brother made it … but really upset and sad that both didn’t get through. Both have great talent and personalities, and it was incredibly cruel that the judges saved them for the last spot. Not cool at all.
Very sad about Alex Wong … sucks that his company wouldn’t let him out of the contract for just a while, but … guess he maybe should have asked about that before auditioning! I hope he does come back when his contract is up. Really loved how upset Mary got, when Mia and Lil C were bringing poor Brandon down. I think he’s got an adorable smile, and I don’t see any cockiness in his dancing, so I’m not sure WTF Mia was so upset about, and why she had to be so dang rude!
It would be one thing if Mia and Lil’C were providing some constructive criticism to Brandon, explaining what it is they don’t like, so he can work on improving it. But they were mainly just saying over and over again “I don’t like you. I don’t think you’re as great as everyone says you are.”
The only time Brandon seemed cocky was when he was asked about working with Mia and he said something like “it’s ON!”.
Evan tried out and made it so close last season, so I’m glad he made the show, but I thought his brother had it in the bag. I can understand them not wanting to split the viewer votes between the brothers and waiting to bring back Ryan for the fall season. Plus, the fact that the brothers are both so SMALL is a worry for me when it comes to partnering. I can see Evan being paired with Asuka since she is so tiny. Remember what a hard time the tall dancers had last season? I don’t know the heights of the girls, but Evan could have trouble with lifts if he lasts until the last half of the season when they randomly draw partners.
I can understand the ballet company not wanting to let Alex out of a contract. The injury rate has got to be 100% on that show. We don’t hear anything about it (unless it’s like Jessica and the injury forces them to be sidelined), but they work at a brutal pace!
I wonder if the sisters were also split up on purpose. They were both phenomenal dancers and I’m glad that Caitlyn made it! I’ll expect to see her sister in the fall also!
Can’t wait until next week! It’s too bad that they start cutting dancers so soon….after all those try-outs and the fact that some of them have had no screentime really puts them at a disadvantage for trying to get votes.
THIS YEARS SELECTION METHOD IS CRUEL!!!! Going to a contestant’s home gives false hope…HATE IT!!!!!! Go back to calling them 2 at a time in Vegas is LESS CRUEL….PLEASE GO BACK!!!!!!
