Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Monday, November 9, 2009

November 9, 2009 by

In the words of Jimmy Buffet “Come Monday, it’ll be all right.” And how right he was. It’s Monday and it is all right – especially if you are a TV fan.  Now that the pesky World Series is out of the way, we get HOUSE back tonight on Fox. And for you LIE TO ME fans, your show is back too.

My DVRs are quite busy on Monday nights.  I’ll be watching HOUSE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, THE BIG BANG THEORY, GOSSIP GIRL and DANCING WITH THE STARS. (Nah, just kidding on the last one. I wanted to see if you were paying attention.)

For those of you who are night owls, there’s yet another new late night talk show joining the gazillion others. LOPEZ TONIGHT with host George Lopez premieres tonight at 11/10c on TBS.

Oh and if you’re an early riser, be sure to check out GLEE’s Chris Colfer on THE BONNIE HUNT SHOW.

What are YOU watching this Monday evening?  Leave a comment here or tell me about it on Twitter (@gmmrTV)

How I Met Your Mother | 8pm on CBS
“The Rough Patch”
Barney and Robin’s romance falters, and Lily comes up with a scheme to break up the unhappy couple that involves a little help from Robin’s celebrity friend, Alan Thicke (who appears in a cameo). [GMMR: Show me that smile again. Ooh show me that smile.]

House | 8pm on FOX
“Known Unknowns”
A teenage girl is brought to the hospital with severely swollen appendages after a wild night out; as her condition worsens, the patient is unable to distinguish fact from fiction; the doctors attend a medical conference. [GMMR: I just realized that I didn’t watch the last new episode of HOUSE. My DVR didn’t record it and I never got around to watching it online. Why am I telling you? You don’t care. Sorry.]

Dancing with the Stars | 8pm on ABC
“Performance Show”
Celebrities are paired with professionals in a ballroom-dance competition, with one pair typically eliminated each week.

Heroes | 8pm on NBC
“Shadowboxing”
Claire is determined to get to the bottom of the attacks; H.R.G. realizes he may be the source of Claire’s troubles; Peter’s new ability is the perfect fit for his job; Sylar’s battle at gaining full control of Matt’s body escalates. [GMMR: Is there anyone out there that lists HEROES as there can’t miss show of the week? I wonder.]

(the rest of tonight’s TV spotlight is after the jump)

One Tree Hill | 8pm on The CW
“Now Lift Your Eyes to the Moon”
Brooke gets life-changing news; Nathan is on the verge of signing a new NBA contract; Dan returns to Tree Hill.

Accidentally on Purpose | 8:30pm on CBS
“The Godfather”
Billy unintentionally causes Abby and Nick to break up when she asks them to be godparents; Billy must stop Abby from doing something she will regret.

Two and a Half Men | 9pm on CBS
“Untainted by Filth”
In what proves to be quite the awkward moment, Charlie and Alan wake up together…with a woman they don’t recognize.

Gossip Girl | 9pm on The CW
“They Shoot Humphreys Don’t They?”
Jenny tries to land the hottest escort for Cotillion; Chuck and Nate try to help Serena and Blair repair their friendship; Olivia considers leaving school for a movie project. [GMMR: The big threesome episode.  The PTC are all OMG and I say STFU and turn the channel.]

Trauma | 9pm on NBC
“That Fragile Hour”
Glenn’s attempt to follow his heart jeopardizes his career; an old friend visits Marisa; Rabbit helps a patient deal with a devastating loss.

Lie to Me | 9pm on Fox
“Fold Equity”
Lightman, Foster and Reynolds head to Las Vegas to search for a missing World Series of Poker finalist; Loker and Torres get closer to each other while analyzing Loker’s new relationship

The Big Bang Theory | 9:30pm on CBS
“The Guitarist Amplification
When Leonard and Penny get into an argument, Sheldon attempts to make peace by mediating. [GMMR: Uh Oh. BTW, last week’s episode…yeah, someone needs to get me one of those Cylon toasters. How fun?!]

Castle | 10pm on ABC
“Kill the Messenger
While investigating the murder of a bike messenger, Castle and Beckett are forced to uncover the scandals and secrets of a prominent family. [GMMR: I wish I could get excited about CASTLE. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the show. But every week I record it and just never have the desire to watch it.  But I’m glad so many of you are into it.]

CSI: Miami | 10pm on CBS |
“Bone Voyage”
Dr. Ray Langston (Laurence Fishburne), from the Las Vegas office, comes to Miami when a severed leg found in the Everglades is linked to a girl who went missing in Las Vegas a week earlier. [GMMR: I can’t say that I’m into these CSI shows, but from the promos I’ve seen it seems like there is a CSI franchise crossover storyline.  So if you’re into these shows, I’m sure it’s going to be a nice treat for you.]

Also playing…

I DO think Heroes has improved. But can’t miss? I don’t know if anyone lists it as their favorite show any more. It just will never regain the season 1 popularity that it went and squandered: I remember when it was eclipsing 24 and Lost as my favorite drama (back when Heroes was its best and those two shows were not). Wouldn’t it be silly now to say Heroes is better than Lost?

Oh, and I like Lily’s schemes.

How can you not love Castle? For me, it’s can’t miss!

I wholeheartedly agree with maggie … I love Castle, and it’s totally can’t-miss TV for me too!

  4. Alison on November 9th, 2009 5:42 pm

I’ll be watching Gossip Girl, House and How I Met Your Mother, One Tree Hill, Lie to Me, the BBT, and Castle!

I have Lie to Me and Castle ready to record, but prob won’t watch live. And I will check out Bill Murray, whom I love, on David Letterman. Kath, sounds like you might be feeling a bit better. I base this only on the fact that you are singing the theme song to Growing Pains. 🙂
