THE OFFICE: The Banker - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

THE OFFICE: The Banker

January 22, 2010 by

How dare you. I’m not sure how I missed the memo that tonight’s episode of THE OFFICE was going to be a clip show framed with a few minutes of new footage. I don’t know about you, but I feel jipped. As nice as the little stroll down memory lane was, I’ve seen YouTube fan vids that did a better job of compiling clips into a themed montage. I mean how do you tell the Jim & Pam story without showing the “I’m in love with you” scene or at least the kiss on Casino Night? Amateurs. Emmy award winning editing amateurs. You’re better than this.

This really counted as one of the episodes of Season 6? Remind me to skip over this one when I get the DVDs for this season.

Clearly I’m bitter. But I’d still be down with using this joke of an episode to talk about some of the best moments featured in the clip package. Or even some of the moments that could have and should have been.

    officially jumped the shark

I knew you would agree with me! Total disappointment. Weird that they did this AFTER the strike was over. So much lame.

I thought it was weird. It didn’t bother me too much though because I thought it didn’t come back until February. When I saw it on I was confused but just figured they had thrown this episode in there to give us a little something since it’s been away since december.

I do agree with you Kath, I have seen better montages on youtube and I too kind of hope this isn’t counted as a season 6 episode. By the way didn’t anyone else think Steve Carell’s hair look really weird tonight? Like he got new plugs or something over the holidays? Or maybe he just had to add more water like a chia pet?

I liked it! I’m a spoiler freak so I knew this was coming way back in Dec. and I was worried about how they would pull off a clip show off, but I thought it was cool how they did it. But I can see why some people would be bummed if they weren’t expecting it.

I get your point about better montages on youtube but I’m one of few that HATES fanvids. I can’t sit through them with the corny music and the amateur editing ect., so this was a nice treat for someone like me because i’ve never really seen a montage.

I feel like it was a bad choice for the first new episode back in so many weeks!

  6. Michele on January 22nd, 2010 8:23 am

I was horrified when I realized it was a ‘clip show’. First of all, it doesn’t fit with the whole concept of the show. Second of all the clips were poorly chosen. I came *thisclose* to actually switching it off, and for all the bad episodes I have never once thought that before. Just terrible.

We didn’t know it was coming at our house, either.

But we had a blast playing “Name That Episode” together. I’m not gonna lie–we loved it.

Even though there ARE awesome youtube mashups. Maybe even better ones.

Sooo disappointing–I expected a new episode–especially since they tweeted that it would be such. Whiel I found the clip show amusing, I was all ready for a brand new episode.

I kept checking the guide listing to see if it was a new show! But we did find out something important… that everyone in NYC is gone, and Michael is the highest ranking person at Dunder mifflin…

And what about that rap at the end???

  10. Janet on January 22nd, 2010 9:28 am

I turned off the episode 10 minutes in. If I wanted to watch the previous seasons I would pop in a DVD!

  11. Billiam on January 22nd, 2010 9:48 am

Sigh. I haven’t even watched it yet, but the phrase “jumped the shark” is not applicable to running a clip show. That would mean that a few years from now we’d say “The Office was good for the first few seasons, but that it ran the clip episode, and every episode after that sucked.” One bad episode doesn’t make a show “jump the shark.”

  12. Give Me My Remote on January 22nd, 2010 10:17 am

Yeah, I can’t say the show jumped the shark. I don’t think it’s applicable. I think I was bummed because the promos I had seen didn’t properly set my expectations for a clip show. Had NBC ordered an additional ep or this was billed properly I think I would have been more ok with it.

okay well i think it’s kind of fair as yes they did warn us, if you read episode summaries at NBC, which said this for last night’s ep: Summary (NBC): When a potential buyer comes to Dunder Mifflin, Michael, Dwight, Andy and Pam pull out all the stops in hopes of impressing him with their high profile contacts. Michael reminisces about all the great times they have had in the office. This is a clip show.

got that off officetally.com, which is a pretty legit site.

Do you mean Lazy Scranton? Had you never seen that before? If was featured in ‘The Merger’ (I think…it was the ep when Jim and the Stamford peeps came to Scranton.)

  15. Jackie on January 22nd, 2010 11:49 am

I think the long time fans have a reason to be upset, but honestly we have been without the show for over a month. I think one more week is ok….

Yes, NBC did tell us it was a new episode, but NBC is kinda shady and well let’s look at CoCo’s situation…

I thought it was a well put together episode of some of the best Office moments. Also, did anyone think this was an omen to something huge happening with the show? Just calm down and go with it…

    That’s my two cents.

Agreed, the editing was terrible, and this was a lame excuse for a clip show. I missed the memo that it would be a clip show as well… so I was disappointed not to see a new ep but even more disappointed at how low quality it was.

  17. Hilary on January 22nd, 2010 4:30 pm

It was just… not a great episode. Actually it was horrid. Not worth my time.

Sad to say, but I’m ready for this to be the end of The Office. Just… not worth it anymore.
