SMALLVILLE: Checkmate

April 12, 2010 by

How’s it going Smallvillers? Back with another weekly recap as the season finale vastly approaches! Did you hear Michael Shanks will be returning as Hawkman for the finale, airing on May 14th, as well as Alaina Huffman who plays the Black Canary, Stargirl and Cyborg! Brian Austin Green will also be reprising his role in a guest stint as Metallo soon enough. Something big is in the works huh?! Now on to Smallville’s Checkmate!

This week’s villain came in the form of Amanda Waller, who we have recently seen a few weeks back played by Pam Grier. Waller is a government agent out to recruit superheroes for her army and Tess is one of them. She’s also a threat to the Justice League!

What I thought was a plot to capture Oliver was really a scheme to nab Chloe, aka Watchtower. Waller apparently needs Chloe’s brainpower for her collection of soldiers and hires on Tess who really has no idea about the real plans or who Watchtower really is. Tess ends up finding out in the end that Oliver is Green Arrow. This isn’t good. First Clark now Olly!

Tess really kicked some serious butt in the first half. I don’t remember Lex ever being so hands on. The get away shoot, boots and the wig really turned her into a femme fatal, on top of her right hook. The slow motion shots and Olly busting his way out of the truck was even better as he slid down the highway on the door. The Smallville crew has really brought some serious action to the table this past season. It definitely has regained its appeal since last year.

Clark and Olly did a great job coming through for Chloe after she was kidnapped. After both being held hostage I think Chloe and Oliver’s true feelings seemed to come out more in this episode then last weeks. John Jones was also around for the episode. He informs Clark that there are more superheroes across the board that he doesn’t know about. I can’t wait to find out who!? I loved his memory extraction scene too.

And since Clark is being told that he must pick sides with a battle in sight worry is becoming his best friend. He also learned that his superhero peers could use his back up a bit more. Advice that was of course given by Chloe.

What I am dying to know now is who the Cyber Brainiac at the end of the episode is? I am sure it would be easy to find out but I enjoy surprises so I’m assuming they’ll show up soon. And what about the Kryptonians and Zod? We didn’t see them or Lois in this episode. Do you think they’ll be discovered by Waller and recruited? Will Clark be fighting his own people? What will happen with Lois and the secret phone calls?

It looks like the producers are slowly piecing together an explosive season ender. What are you hoping to see happen Smallville fans? As always drop us a line below.
