Fringe – Peter Bishop is Dangerous?

April 25, 2010 by

Please forgive me for the spottiness of my FRINGE postings as of late. Life has been throwing way too many curve balls at me, causing me to be completely behind on just about everything that I should be doing. The list of things that should take priority to this post is long, but I just couldn’t resist sharing my excitement that what I’ve been waiting for all season has finally occurred – Peter has learned the truth about his origin!!!

  • My prediction was wrong – we didn’t have to wait for the season finale for the big reveal and we won’t have to wait until next season to find out how Peter handles the news. Woo-hoo!!

  • It crushed me to see Peter first calling Walter “Dad” and then denying him as his father in the very same episode.
  • I got the sense that Peter is curious about Olivia’s knowledge because of the way that he looked at her when she spouted off the information about water absorbing the excess energy of the door opening. How angry will he be at her for not telling him the truth as soon as she learned it?
  • It is clear that the budding little Team Fringe family unit just completely fell apart. What happens to Peter now? It has always seemed a little weird to me that Peter, who supposedly had some pretty questionable activity in his FBI file, is such a stand up kind of guy. It would only make sense that he would fall back into his old ways…or worse.
  • Outside of the whole what-happens-to-Peter-now thing, the biggest question of the episode is who is “Mr. Secretary”? William Bell seems the obvious guess, but my bets are on Walternate.

I only have time for these few quick thoughts, but I’d love to hear what everyone else thought. Please share your thoughts below — was it just the way you imagined it? Better? Or a bit of a letdown?

Gretchen is a stay-at-home mom of two awesome little girls who has the good fortune of being married to a husband who is completely cool with her slightly out of control television addiction. During her precious few sleeping hours, Gretchen frequently finds herself ridding the world of pesky vampires and demons, as well as taking down fake secret branches of the CIA.

I agree with your guess that the Secretary is Walternate. (I am unspoiled on this.)

I found Peter calling Walter dad for the first time just before he found out a cheap trick akin to a cop saying he has three weeks until he retires and you know he is going to be dead in the next five minutes.

I wonder if Peter knows that Olivia knew about him and didn’t say anything. If he didn’t know before I am guessing he will figure it out soon.

Peter may have a questionable past, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t stand by his friends (Team Fringe), until he felt betrayed by them.

I totally thought Walternate too. I can’t wait for the Peter fallout!

Even though I wanted Peter to find out about being Alternate Peter, it was still sad to see. When he called Walter “Dad”, it was such a casual thing that it completely caught me off guard. But it was really sweet, and you could tell that Walter was truly touched. So, like you said, to have this in the same episode where Peter finds out, and pretty much denounces Walter as his dad … this is truly heartbreaking.

I have no idea where this season will go from here, and I do believe that Peter will be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed when he finds out what Olivia knows/how much she knows, but hopefully our little Fringe Family can be whole again soon!!

Peter knows about Olivia’s involvement. The look he gave her in the hospital said it all. It was downright dangerous. That smile didn’t even come close to including his eyes, but he needed to save the smackdown for Walter. Couldn’t have Olivia tipping him off. Besides, Peter knows from “Jacksonville” that Olivia can see things ‘glimmer’ from the other side, and he knows she’s been acting weird towards him ever since, re “Olivia. In the Lab.” Plus, he’s been begging her for info about Walter’s odd behaviour since “White Tulip.” There’s no way Peter didn’t put 2+2 together for Olivia – as well as Walter – the second he woke up.
