TRUE BLOOD Returns and it’s Bloody Fangtastic!

June 13, 2010 by

Vampires, maenads and humans…oh my! It’s time to head back to Bon Temps for the season 3 premiere of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD (9pm on HBO).

When we last visited the dark and mysterious small town, the folks of Bon Temps were just emerging from their black-eyed, sex-fueled, possession by the Maenad, Maryann. While most were happy to not remember much about those dark escapades, Eggs became overwrought when Sookie helped him to remember just what he had done while under the control of Maryann. While attempting to confess his sins to Andy, Eggs was shot and killed by Jason Stackhouse, who thought the knife-wielding Eggs was trying to kill Andy (although I suspect Jason wanted to keep his title of ‘Best Body in Bon Temps’ – a crown Eggs surely threatened).

Vampire Bill and Sookie were enjoying a fine night of dancing and dining when Bill had to go and ruin it all by proposing. Needing a minute to compose herself before giving Bill her answer, Sookie retreated to the ladies room only to return to find the restaurant in shambles and Bill gone.

Although quite some time has passed in our world since Bill disappeared, very little time has passed in Bon Temps. Tonight’s season premiere picked up right where things ended last season, so don’t expect much time to breathe before you’re thrown back into the thick of things down in the bayou.

Now you know we don’t do spoilers around here, but having seen the first two episodes of the new seasons, I don’t mind teasing you all…just a little bit.

What’s most important to know, is that all this time you’ve spent waiting for the return of TRUE BLOOD has been quite worthwhile. The first two episodes encompass everything that you’ve come to love about TRUE BLOOD. I guarantee you’re going to laugh out loud, gasp in fright, cover your eyes from the gore, and probably get at least a little hot and bothered at least a few times in just tonight’s episode alone. If you’re considering playing the TRUE BLOOD drinking game in which you take a sip every time someone utters a curse word, I’d advise that you either play with water or have an ambulance on speed dial because the mouths of the folks of this little town are as deliciously dirty as ever.

As far as that teasing I mentioned, here are just a few tidbits to get you even more excited for tonight.

Still reeling after killing Eggs, Jason and Andy team up and prove to be one unintentionally hilarious duo. Andy wants Jason to move forward like nothing ever happened, and that means doing what Jason does best.  And I think we all know what Jason Stackhouse does best.

Convinced Erik was directly involved in Bill’s vamp-napping, Sookie storms into Fangtasia and finds Erik in a somewhat compromising position. And may I just say, ‘Thank You’. Pam, Erik’s right-hand vamptress is back as a series regular this season. If Erik weren’t so enticing, it would be hard to take your eyes off her. She’s a characters that commands your attention.

My favorite new vamp on the block, Jessica, is still fighting her inner-demons, literally. Hoyt is still hooked, but can Jessica tame herself enough to be the girlfriend she wants to be for him? Look for this newbie to find a “mentor” in the older, but wiser Pam.  Oh and one word – chainsaw.

LaFayette has his hands full with crazy Tara, her crazy mother and all their amped-up craziness. But he still manages to handle it all while maintaining his sense of style.

After being hunted by Maryann and her bedeviled cronies, Sam Merlotte takes off in pursuit of his roots and the family that gave him up for adoption when he was just a baby. Be careful what you wish for. Then again, what Sam wishes for – especially in his dreams- isn’t all that bad. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it. And may I just say, da-yum!

I don’t want to say much more, because I want you to experience it for yourself tonight at 9pm on HBO.  Forget 9pm, tune in to HBO at starting at 8:45pm for a fangtastic viewer countdown.

I am so excited for the return of True Blood (about 5 minutes from now!) After watching the first two seasons on DVD/with a friend, I broke down and ordered up HBO so I could watch it now. I hated being behind and having to avoid the spoilers! Bring it on, Bon Temps!

So hopefully by now you’ve all watched the S3 premiere. Please feel free to share your thoughts here. I have to leave on a plane in a few hours so it’s going to take a little bit of time before I can get a proper recap on GMMR. But that shouldn’t stop us from sharing the love or the hate (hopefully not the latter.)

Thoughts?! I loved every single minute of it. The show it campy fun at its finest!

So glad to be back in Bon Temps. This and Mad Men make the Summer TV drought worthwhile.

This show has grown on me so much, I absolutely HATED the pilot the first time I watched it, hated everything about it. But after giving it another chance and continuing, I was surprised just how addictive it got. I watched S1 on DVD right before S2 started, so this is the longest I’ve had to wait for episodes. Let me just say, I’ve been jonesing something fierce.

It’s another one of those shows where I have a hard time picking a favorite character. Mainly between Pam, Eric and Lafayette, with Jessica and Jason Stackhouse rounding out the top 5.

Stinks that the premiere was pretty much a prelude to the season, it was all set up and FLEW by. Can’t wait for the introduction of Joe Manganiello’s character, Jason & Eric will have some competition for best body in Bon Temps soon enough.

I am so excited for this season!!! Will definitely be watching as well. Love Jason and his adorable, bumbling idiot self. Really can’t wait for all the werewolf shenanigans as well.
