SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Screaming for Lauren and Ashley

June 24, 2010 by

Let me first start by saying that there was not a single unimpressive performance on Wednesday (June 23) night’s Top 10 episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE season 7.

Even Jose’s Bollywood number, which was technically imperfect, was exciting to watch… the combination of Nakul Dev Mahajan’s super fun choreography, and Jose’s joy in carrying it out, worked just fine for me. Also, Katherine killing it right alongside him didn’t hurt. I wasn’t aware of her expertise in the Bollywood genre, ha.

However, in a season where the male contestants are just so damn good — from Alex to Billy to Robert, Kent and AdeChike too — I must note that it was two ladies that had me screaming my face off last night.

Let’s hear it for Lauren and Ashley.

Though both girls delivered technically-sound performances in week one, neither of them danced with the sort of emotion or connection that is imperative if you’re expecting yells.

Thankfully, they seem to have received that message last Wednesday.

‘Cause cut to week two and, um, wow.

As far as I’m concerned, Lauren. Is. Everything.

As I’ve said since I saw her wholesome stripper audition earlier this month, I f*#!ing love the way this girl’s body moves. And Ashley, God bless her, well, just peep the running-leap-flip-fall thing she does in her routine which just flows from start to finish. I mean, I don’t know what else to say, it’s simply time to shut up and watch…

My honorable mention of the week goes to AdeChike, who got a lot of flack from the judges for his lack of emotion last Wednesday as well.

He’s working hard to overcome that. Watch the video of his performance and tell me you can’t see this. I mean, either way, his movement is just so damn beautiful that I don’t really even care. Take a look at what he did with the phenomenal Allison Holker as his partner…

I mean, come on!

These kids are my heroes.

I LOVED Lauren’s performance last night. All the contestants that got knocked for a lack of performance/emotion definitely stepped it up last night.

Loved Lauren last night. She stepped it up big time.
Allow me to rant for just a bit…I have been a devoted SYTYCD watcher since S2 and I think the judges/the judging has just gotten out of control. Many things are contributing to it and it’s not just one thing but seriously, the inconsistent comments, all the talking between themselves while the contestant is waiting for solid, legit feedback, etc is driving me nuts. I actually miss Mary. And I miss the rotation of judges. I truly dislike how they tell one contestant one thing and then tell another contestant something else- their standards are all over the place. I used to not really care but they seem to have so much more control now over the show that it’s just not the same. Goodbye SYTYCD of the past….
ok, I’m done being dramatic! I just needed to get that off my chest!
GO KENT! I’d be happy to see Melinda leave.
Last point- they keep harping on how the AllStar girls are eating the guy contestants up because they aren’t manly enough dancers…who’s fault is that judges? You picked lil boys to dance! I know this show will help them grow, lets hope by the finale they will have stopped saying that.

Yes, what is WITH the judging?? I am just not connecting to the format of the show this year. Comparing them to the all-stars, critiquing every little thing then backtracking to say, “but don’t forget, this is the best dancer here so don’t vote him/her off!” I just feel like I can’t trust the judges this year. (except for Adam Shankman, I will always love him!)

That said, I looooooove Ashley, and Lauren too! I’ve got to make sure the girls represent so these two don’t go home too early!!
