Who Went Home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

UPDATE: Click here to find out who went home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (August 5th)

PREVIOUS POST
I’ll be live blogging tonight’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE starting at 9pm EST.  Join us then and leave your thoughts in the comments throughout the show.

After last night’s stellar performances, it’s going to be hard to have to send someone home tonight. Oh wait, no it’s not – as long as that person in Melinda. Sorry, but I can’t imagine any scenario in which she stays. Let’s see…

  • She’s been in the bottom three every week
  • The judges voted her keep her over Cristina but all three said they regretted their decision
  • Another subpar performance last night
  • Weak-ass solo
  • She’s annoying

As long as she’s in the bottom three tonight I’d put money on her going home (and I’m stingy, and I don’t give away my money easily).

Bottom Three Predictions
What’s going to be a bigger surprise is the other two dancers joining Melinda in the bottom two.  For me, I’d most definitely want to see Jose dance for his life tonight.  Other than Melinda, he’s the weakest dancer there.  I know the judges like to fawn all over his smile and ignore his lack of talent, but nobody else really deserves to be there.  Assuming the third person is another girl, I’m going to go ahead and say it might be Lauren. She doesn’t deserve to be there, but there’s a chance.

Another Opening, Another Show
Hard to judge the opening number when the audio sucked all the life out of it.  “Carmina Burana” is one of the most powerful pieces of music in existence, but it’s impact was lost by the muted audios. It completely took me out of the routine. It looked ok, not one of my favorites, but I’m sure it would have been better had the whole thing come together in the right way.

Some Changes Coming Next Week
Nigel announced that there will be a few shake-ups next week.  Each of the remaining contestants will dance two routine. Each  dancers will dance with an All Star they’ve never danced with AND they will be dancing with their S7 peers. So it’s a mix of the old and new on SYTYCD next week. A little bit of something for everyone.

Results Time
With this season’s much more efficient results show, it’s time for Cat to break the good and bad news to her babies.

  • Alex – SAFE
  • Ashley – SAFE
  • AdeChike – SAFE
  • Kent – SAFE (Oh Cat, don’t do that to me!)
  • Lauren – SAFE
  • Robert – BOTTOM THREE
  • Billy – BOTTOM THREE
  • Melinda – BOTTOM THREE
  • Jose – SAFE

Wow, I’m a bit surprised to see both Robert and Billy in the bottom two tonight, but now it makes the booting of Melinda a no brainer.  Still a bit of a reality check that more people picked up the phone for Jose than they did for Robert or Billy. Wow…just wow! Now I can sit back and relax…at least until next week.

All About the All Stars
YES!  Now this is exciting.  Cat informed us that based on feedback from viewers, they’ve decided to showcase the All Stars during the Thursday night performances. Um, has someone been listening to the SYTYCD podcast?  We’ve been begging for this. And if I wasn’t excited enough, tonight they showcased Courtney and Mark by having them reenact one of my favorite SYTYCD pieces of all time – “The Garden” by Sonya Tayeh. Even more CRAMAZING then when they originally performed it. YAY!

The Solos
I actually enjoyed all three solos tonight. Billy’s was fluid and beautiful. Robert went the interesting and quirky route tonight.  And Melinda dropped the music and let her tap shoes do the talking…to great results.  It’s decision time for the judges…but I’m thinking their just going back stage to check Twitter because there’s not much to decide, is there?

Who Went Home This Week?
As we all expected, it was Melinda who tapped on the SYTYCD for the final time in competition tonight.

Did the right person go home this week?  Thoughts about the changes coming next week with the dancers. Are you excited?

I dunno.. this bottom three seems a bit fishy to me. I can understand that Robert is in the bottom two seeing that he was there last week. But Billy?!?!?! What also boggles my mind is that Adecheke has escaped the bottom three. Yes, he’s talented but there’s something about him I don’t like and I don’t care to watch any of his performances.

It’s a no-brainer that Melinda will be going home, unless Robert screws it up. I don’t see Billy doing a sub-par solo.

I definitely didn’t think AdeChike deserved to be in the bottom three this week. He danced well with Lauren and had, in my opinion, the best solo of the night. Billy didn’t get great feedback from the judges and I think people have been a little disappointed that he hasn’t lived up to his “hype”.

If Melinda doesn’t go home then this format isn’t working. Her solo was laughably bad, so they’d only be keeping her because they need to keep the girls.

well melinda was gone and i thought it was stupid of robert to be shocked. I think that it was made abundantly clear last night that if Melinda was in the bottom three she was automatically going home.

I really liked Melinda and it’s a shame that America didn’t see that.

Still don’t like Adecheke. He needs to go.

I was surprised to see Billy in the bottom, but I don’t think that there’s anything fishy about that. I’ve seen a lot of people saying that “billy it’s not the same”, “Billy is kind of arrogant now” or something like that. I actually did not like him before, but know I do so I guess I’m just opposite girl when it comes to Billy. And it pains me to see Robert in the bottom! I know he seems obnoxious to a lot of people, but I think it’s just him you know. Everyone seems to like him in the cast, and Alysosn even said that he’s the one she wants to dance with, in a interview, so I think he’s just that kind of guy who makes you roll your eyes from a distance, but it turns out to be really great when you get to know him.

    Happy that Melinda was eliminated!

I’m curious to see how the two dances thing will work. If they are dancing in pairs (did anyone specify if it’s pairs?), then we will have to have at least two same sex pairs. I wonder if they will team up the two girls? It could be really fun or a total train wreck next week. Can’t wait!

Ah! My DVR cut out right after we found out the bottom three so I missed all of the performances. 🙁

I just have to say I’m LOVING this season!!! So glad Melinda went home. When she danced her solo in her taps again, I was like UGH, go home already.

Loved seeing Mark and Courtney do their dance again. Can’t wait to see who they showcase next week. That season in particular was my favorite. Would love to see Chelsie stop back and do her duet with Mark to “Bleeding Love”. That was my all-time fav.

I’m just surprised that anyone fell for the “Kent you’re safe too” bit. When Cat didn’t specially mention that 1 was safe and 1 wasn’t, there was a 0% chance that either (Kent or Adechike) was in the bottom.

I was definitely disappointed that Melinda went home. I have no idea what America hated about her… she was cute, tried hard, and aside from her hideous pants, I think she was quite likable. I definitely think that Billy deserved to be in the bottom. I didn’t like him last season and I don’t like him now, and I’m sick of seeing him dance and hearing him talk. His voice just has an annoying cadence that drives me insane, and his dancing is so feminine and girlish. He doesn’t have the strength that Alex, Adechike and Robert seem to possess.

Julia, I can see your points about Robert…there is such a short window to get to know these dancers and they sometimes use their 5 seconds to mug for the cameras a little too much. Robert is that for me..just too much.

Very happy to hear that we’ll get to see some All-star love! Don’t really care so much about Comfort and Ade, but I can’t wait to see Neil and Lauren’s Devil/Angel dance! I really noticed in The Garden routine that they seemed to be trying to fill up the stage since they originally choreographed that routine for the smaller stage. I didn’t care for this version as much as the first because it seemed like they were trying too hard to cover more of the space (and, quite frankly don’t care that much for it anyway…Sonya = OVERRATED).

I am really bummed that we don’t get Mia’s choreography and where is Wade? Those are the two choreographers who MAKE the show for me!

I really loved this week’s routines (first week I’ve re-watched any routines)..Dave Scott and Lauren really brought out the personality in AdeChike! I really like him from the Las Vegas episodes when he had to dance for his life and then I REALLY loved his family reaction when Mia told him that he made the show. It was such a feeling of family and it was my favorite moment of the top 11 reveal show.

I never liked Billy but he’s actually growing on me in his little rehearsal pieces and his solo on Wednesday was better than his main routine! WOW! It was fun!

Kent is by far my favorite, but I see him as so similar to Neil and then I expect him to get those acting chops right away like Neil did with his routines and Kent’s just not getting it. I’d rather just listen to him talk all day as opposed to watching him dance! Cute as a button!

Alex is growing on me too. Last season I was really disappointed when he couldn’t do the show and his dancing is wonderful, but he is finally getting some personality across as well. His first routine that Mia just loved was not something I would ever want to see again….but this week was so great! What a moment it was in the studio for him and the show! Magic! And isn’t it fun seeing the judges making fun of each other during their critique! “He’s gonna cry!!!”
