WAREHOUSE 13: Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly Talk Romance, Guest Stars and Season 2

July 6, 2010 by

Warehouse 13

It’s been nearly nine months since WAREHOUSE 13 concluded its first season, so let’s quickly recap where we left off…

Artie finally captured MacPherson. But the relief was short-lived because Leena (disguised as Claudia) helped MacPherson escape. Pete got one of his vibes, so he and Myka went to check on Artie, but they were too late… MacPherson had trapped Artie in a tunnel by setting off a self-destruct mode, leaving Artie to burn up in the fire. Maybe.

Thankfully, the long wait is finally over and fans will get answers to many of their W13 questions when the second season premieres Tuesday night (July 6).

To honor the occasion, GIVE ME MY REMOTE chatted with stars Eddie McClintock (Pete) and Joanne Kelly (Myka).

We got a few serious nuggets out of them, but as you’ll see, their chemistry isn’t confined solely to the screen.

WAREHOUSE 13 seemed to hit the right note with viewers immediately last year: not only was it the highest rated Syfy show ever, but the Comic-Con panel was kind of crazy.

Eddie McClintock: Yeah, what a shock! That was wild! I sat in on the EUREKA [Comic-Con] panel the day before [our panel] and it was huge! And our panel was not as big as EUREKA, but [it was] pretty large. And they’re saying this year, our panel will be as big or bigger than EUREKA’s. It’s crazy. Really cool.

Something that will surely be brought up at Comic-Con: Pete and Myka. Are you both having fun teasing the bond they share?

EM: I am. Joanne and I, we kind of get along. The other day, we were being pulled by a camera truck — the camera was mounted on the back of a truck — and we were in a car and being pulled around and it was between takes, and the sun was shining, blue skies and I said, “Joanne, do you ever get tired of the fact that I never take anything seriously?” And she said, “Sometimes I’d like to stab you in the eye with a pencil. But if you were any other way than the way you are, it wouldn’t be the same.” And it’s kind of true. I sit around and act like I’m 14 and she chastises me.

Joanne Kelly: [laughs] Silently. Just my eyes [chastise him].

EM: That’s right.

So in other words, you act just like your characters.

EM: Pretty much.

JK: I think there’s a little part of you that you take from every character. A small part, the part that I bring to work, the part that everyone around me gets to see the most. [Myka]’s definitely just a little piece of who am I, not the whole pie.

But the big question is, do you see romance in their future? There’s a really cute moment between them in episode 2 of this coming season, so we’re hoping there will be more of those kinds of scenes, at the very least.

JK: I think there are a lot of moments [between them]. I think what we’re seeing is two characters connecting and forming a bond. Whether that be romantic or platonic, that remains to be seen. But you do get to see these two people really starting to get to know one another and starting to open up to one another and trust one another and be there for one another. I think we will see a deepening of their relationship.

EM: I think it’s really kind of an ideal brother-sister relationship. They both work together. They’re written as both relatively attractive people.

JK: That’s how they’re written.

EM: That’s how they’re written. So how could you not be attracted to one another if you spend that much time together–

JK: Are you saying you’re attracted to me?

EM: Only when I’m drinking. [Both laugh] But you know, it’s natural for people who are together that long to be attracted to one another. It’s natural. Okay? I’m not different from anyone else, okay man?! But I think what’s great is that Pete and Myka respect their jobs enough and respect the boundaries of their job enough to not cross that line. And I’ve kind of been saying maybe season 15–

JK: Please don’t say it.

EM: –they can share their denture cream and bump their wheelchairs into one another.

JK: Bump their wheelchairs into one another?

EM: Kind of an old persons mating ritual at the Warehouse.

JK: What kind of old people do you hang out with?

You two seem a bit young to be in wheelchairs by season 15.

JK: Eddie has had a bit of work done.

EM: A little bit, a little bit.

You guys have some amazing guest stars signed on for this season. Was there anyone in particular you were really excited to work with?

EM: There’s been a couple for me. The first was Lindsay Wagner. I grew up with THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN and THE BIONIC WOMAN. She’s an icon. You know, to get in there and make her laugh a little bit. And have her cock her head and give me a quizzical look of “who is this person?” was kind of cool for me. Tia Carrere, she’s had a cool career. I got to make out with her and stuff.

Your job is tough, Eddie.

EM: It’s cool.

JK: Totally straining you.

EM: But yeah. All of the guest stars that we’ve had have been great. And I think we have a couple more under our sleeve.

JK: Up [our sleeve].

EM: In [our sleeve]?

JK: Around?

EM: If you will.

Did you have any similar excitement with anyone, Joanne?

JK: I have to say that everyone who has come on our show have been lovely, lovely, lovely people. Gracious.

EM: She was not allowed to watch TV [as a kid].

JK: I didn’t watch TV so this is all new for me. No authors coming on that I can get excited about. All I know–

EM: She’s a nerd.

JK: I’m a nerd.

But that’s okay.

JK: Yeah. As I was saying, the guest stars have all been so lovely. Really lovely. It’s been such a pleasure working with everyone. And everyone coming on set has been so great. They’re great people, which I think is just the most important thing. Not what they’ve done or what they’ve been on, but what kind of person they are. And I feel really blessed to be working with all these people.

HG Wells plays a big part in the season premiere…

EM: [pause] It appears to be the case.

JK: It appears to be the case.

You guys are going to be nice and tight-lipped about whether we’ll see more of that character, aren’t you?

JK: Yeah, we want people to discover the show [as it happens].

EM: We want people to be surprised and excited.

JK: And it’s hard because people continue to ask these [spoiler-related] questions–

EM: –and we want to answer, but we want–

JK: –to save it. Like a surprise.

EM: We could tell you, but we’d have to kill you.

Um, yeah, I’d like to stay alive. A safer question, then. We learned bits and pieces about Pete and Myka’s pasts in season one: he is a recovering alcoholic, she has residual issues regarding the death of her former boyfriend. Will either of those things be revisited in season two?

JK: Yeah, I mean– [pause]

EM: Yes, the answer to that question is yes. We try and touch on Pete’s alcoholism more. We want to… in the following seasons, I think we’ll get further and further as we go along. But we definitely touch on that issue in regards to Pete. And you know, [in addition to that] kind of like a quest for love [for Pete]. And Joanne’s quest for love. And I’m like, “Hey, I’m married!”

JK: So disappointing every day–

EM: Go somewhere else!

JK: –I just have to know he’s not available.

EM: That I’m taken.

JK: It’s excruciating.

EM: It happens all the time.

My question is ” Is Joanne Kelly coming back for a third season or has she found greener pastures.

My opinion: She is the hottest babe on TV. Lust comes to mind.

Hi there! This is kind of off subject but I need some advice from an established weblog. Is it extremely hard to set up your personal weblog? I’m not extremely techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not certain exactly where to start. Do you might have any points or suggestions? Thank you
