Are the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Contestants Pushing Themselves Too Hard? Adam Shankman Weighs In

July 16, 2010 by

For the second week in a row, a contestant has dropped out of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE due to injury, so the question begs to be asked: are these kids pushing themselves too hard?

GIVE ME MY REMOTE caught up with judge Adam Shankman backstage after Ashley’s cracked rib forced her off the show and got his take on the situation.

“I think the kids are pushing themselves very, very hard,” he says in the video below. “But it’s a competition. What’s too hard?…This is what they have to do, what they believe they have to do to win. I got hurt a lot as a dancer…this is a sport.”

We also asked him what he thought it would take to get America to pick up the phone and vote for the brilliant Billy Bell, who ended up in the Bottom 3 again this week. Check out what he had to say…

What did Adam say about Billy? I don’t understand how this amazing dancer winds up in the bottom 3! Please post a transcript for those of us who cannot watch the video. Thanks!

I hate that there have been so many injuries! I don’t mean to be a debbie-downer but I think it’s gotten a bit out of hand. I’m not saying that it’s not a competition, but there’s a fine line between competitive and self-endangering. I’m not a dancer, but I did play sports when I was younger and I know from friends that there’s a huge risk in playing/performing on/with an injury. Adam’s statement was reasonable but didn’t really cover that the dancers should be more careful. I hope things turn out alright and that no one else gets hurt.
