Who Went Home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

July 22, 2010 by

For the past two weeks the dancer who has left competition has left due to injury. Will that be the case again this week with Billy Bell? I guess we’ll soon see.

Tonight’s opening group routine, performed by the S7 contestants and the All Stars, was a fabulous number by Kelly Abbey – a new choreographer to the show. I like her stuff. She can stick around.

After a nice tribute to dance legend Denise Jefferson, who recently passed away, it was time to get on to the results. All five dancers took to the stage to learn their fate.

Find out who was safe and who joined Billy in the bottom two, after the break.

Here we go….

  • Lauren – SAFE
  • My sweet little adorable love muffin Kent – SAFE
  • AdeChike – SAFE
  • Robert – BOTTOM THREE
  • Jose – BOTTOM THREE

C’mon judges, make this happen. Send Jose home…PLEASE!

All Star Spotlight

Tonight the focus was on Lauren and Neil and together their performed one of my favorite SYTYCD routines. The Wade Robson dance piece, “Night of the Dancing”. Fabulous!

And going home tonight is….

NO ONE!

Two people will go home next week.

Um, what if Robert, Jose and/or Billy aren’t in the bottom three next week? Wow, that sucks.

What the what? This season is all kinda screwed up!!

    Thanks for the update.

Last week I noticed that Jose was used very sparsely in the opening group number. This week – HE WASN’T IN IT AT ALL!!!

How is that fair to the other five (four w/o Billy) dancers who all had to learn and practice the group number sometime this week. When the announcement was made at the end of the show I just kept yelling obscenities. How can the judges justify keeping Jose. It’s insane.

I can’t understand why they’re in love with him. Personality wise, I’m not that found of him. Even Robert seems more sincere.

I’m totally loving Kent. He’s just too adorable for words. I also loved Cat last night after Kent/Kathryn’s routine, she was running her fingers through his hair! So funny.

I just hope that they have the lowest 2 vote getters eliminated – i.e. time to let the voting audience decide who goes home rather than still allowing the judges to pick the contestant going home out of the bottom (3 for 1 elimination).

Also kindof weird that they are going to be basing the elimination exclusively on next week’s performance (at least from a voting perspective) as Billy didn’t have a number to vote for this week so they can’t just use a cumulative total of this week and next for the bottom 3 the way they’ve done in the past on American Idol.

While there have been many things I’ve enjoyed and loved about the new “all-stars” format, and indeed about season 7 in general, this has to be one of the lowest points.

Purely from a producing side of it, this wouldn’t and couldn’t happen in the UK – there were a number of “phone scandals” over the last few years, so purely by nature of the fact that they are making money on the voting means that they would have had to send someone home, or refund everyones phone in cash (and trust me the system has been put in place before to claim the refunds)

Apart from anything else, we know how this season is going to end, we’ve known from the beginning once you could see fan reaction to Kent. Alex became exciting because that hip hop routine added a moment of uncertainty where he could have toppled Kent off the winners podium, but since his injury it’s been plain sailing.

Now, I like Kent don’t get me wrong, but without Billy to hold my interest this week, I was fairly lukewarm to the show anyway. I know a lot of people don’t like Billy but I find him a captivating and exciting dancer who has the potential to really do something amazing (like Alex). However I think Billy screwed up this week, and he’s lucky he didn’t go home. By choosing not to dance after he was cleared to do so makes him look arrogant and lazy. I think the only reason the judges didn’t send him home is because the back-lash against not sending Jose would have been way to high. (My personal opinion – he’s had a lot of hard knocks emotionally which has made him a little gun-shy and potentially aggravating an injury further just for a dance competition, damn right take a break)

This was a ridiculous decision on the judges’ part. They knew Wednesday that Billy didn’t dance. Why still go through with asking everyone to vote if it wouldn’t matter at all? I’m glad I don’t care enough to ever vote. And now I probably never will.

Can’t wait to hear Kath and Dan’s thoughts on the podcast.

They surely have been making up the rules as they go along this season. Their lack of using Jose in the group numbers is so evident that they don’t want him to screw up a great performance. Please send the boy home, have him on the tour, I don’t care – he can come out and do one little solo – but enough already. This is a dance competition!! At least the street dancers of the past were able to pull off other styles without the choreographers being soft on them. I was hoping Joey Dowling (Broadway) was gonna chew him up and spit him out and he would throw in the towel. She can scare the bejeezus out of anyone. But even her routine wasn’t a real challenge. Although props to her about not letting him smile his way through it.
On a side note – I really love the all-stars in the performances – and backing up the singers each week. I loved Mark back in the day – but dang that boy has grown so much as a performer! Plus he’s gotten tons hotter that doesn’t hurt either. LOVE LOVE him!

I have been ready for Jose to be gone from the beginning. He is NO Legacy and I think that everyone is trying to put him in the same box as Legacy. Legacy had a bunch more heart and more skill. I was chuckling as I compared Dominic’s performance during the Enrique song (btw since when did he drop the “Iglesias” from his name?) to Jose’s solo. Jose is talented – for sure, but it drove me crazy when I rewatched the Sonya Tayek routine and watched only Jose: he basically just lifted and hugged Allison while she moved so beautifully.

I’m going to stop now because I don’t want to seem like a hater. They all seem to be nice kids who genuinely like each other and work very hard.

I hope that it will be two of the three in this week’s bottom three going home next week. I love Adechike, Kent, Lauren! I miss Ashley and especially Alex!

    @AMM – Preach…you can’t keep your eyes off Mark.

@Jacki – Lucky for you, we recorded a SYTYCD podcast last night. Hopefully it will go up today. All depends on Dan’s schedule.

I too am surprised and dismayed that the judges did not send Jose home. While I’ve enjoyed what he has brought to the show, I think we’ve reached the natural end to his journey on SYTYCD–as Nigel pretty much noted when he said Jose has stopped growing. It is just clear that he can’t match the other dancers who are left, and as Mia said during Tuesday’s show, he can’t gain all that technique in a week or two.

I was also very surprised that Robert was in the bottom 3. I thought his jazz routine and his samba were both terrific and he’s just a joy to watch. He’s not as good as Kent, for sure, but I think he’s worlds better than Adechike. That paso doble he did with Jose earned him a spot in the bottom 3, in my opinon. Here’s hopeing Jose and Adechike go home next week.

This is just crap, crap I say!!!
    This season is messed up.
As much as I adore, adore, adore Kent, AdeChike has steadily been moving up as my favorite dancer this season. Voting next week will be CRITICAL!
