SMALLVILLE Producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson Tease the Final Season

July 30, 2010 by

As SMALLVILLE gears up for its last season, fans prepare to say farewell to their favorite characters…and everyone is wondering what will happen in the final hours of the series.

So GIVE ME MY REMOTE spent some quality time with SMALLVILLE executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson who offered a few teases on some of season 10’s lingering issues…

Season finale fallout:
“[The confrontation with Zod] sends [Clark] in a different trajectory,” Souders says. “I don’t know [that] it’s something people are going to see coming and I think it’s going to propel him out of the first episode with a very clear problem in his lap. He realizes he’s not the guy that everyone looks to when they think of Superman, who everybody looks to as inspirational and a clear-hearted guy. That’s not who Clark Kent is right now and that becomes very clear to him in the premiere.”

Lois knows Clark is the Blur:
“What’s fun is Clark has been raised keeping secrets,” Peterson says. “Lois, not so much. And so watching Lois trying to keep this amazing secret is going to be a fascinating struggle of will.”

And while in the Superman mythology, Lois shouldn’t know yet that Clark is Superman, that might not totally impact whether SMALLVILLE’s Lois is still in the know by the time the series ends.

“We’re sticking pretty true to our own mythology,” he says. “But I think there are some twists along the way that will make fans of the original comic and graphic novel very happy.”

The resurrection of Tess:
“You know what’s fun about Tess?” Peterson asks. “She’s a bit of a sleeper this year — she has some gigantic secrets that are going to come out, probably bigger than anybody. But nobody’s really been asking about that, so that’s a fun thing to let you guys know about.”

Kara’s return:
“We’re about to start shooting that [episode] on Friday…[fans will] see a little more Supergirl than Kara [this time around],” Souders says. “She shakes up the world for all of our superheroes a little.”

But will she be teaching Clark how to fly? “Funny you should ask that…” Peterson teases, declining to elaborate further.

-.

Oliver’s search for the MIA Chloe:
“Hunting [for Chloe] might not be a good thing,” Souders hints. “So he has to weigh that decision…Giving up might not be quite the way he looks at it. Letting go might have to be part of his story.”

How they are going to explain Clark keeping his Blur identity hidden, since he’s been sans glasses as both Clark and the Blur:
“Just watch the 200th show,” Souders say. “You get a little bit of a glimpse into how that gets pulled off.”

Returning faves:
Will Lionel be back? “He’s someone we’d love to see back,” Souders says. “We had so much fun having Martha back last year and Perry and obviously with bringing [James] Marsters back, we want to see old familiar faces, but in a new way.”

And Lex? Could he have a body-double? “All we’ve been able to say is Lex always had a back-up plan,” Peterson teases.

The duo also hints that another fan-favorite could be up in the mix this season, but declined to name who it would be for fear of jinxing the deal.  Peterson did hint that “it’s someone the fans would love to see back, but it’s not necessarily one of the people on everyone’s radar.”

Hmm. Any guesses?

And Allison Mack fans, don’t worry, we didn’t forget about your girl.

Check back soon for Souders and Peterson’s thoughts on Chloe’s exit and what’s to come for her…

Err..Lois knows in the comics and she’s married to Clark. Wikipedia could have told you that. *shakes head* I am glad to hear that SV are creating their own twist.

  2. Elan on July 30th, 2010 4:41 am

some very good scoop indeed. s10 is gonna be great….

why is everybody so afraid of chloe (upsetting) fans…..no need to apoligise. surely if there is no news there is no news.

  3. umiko on July 30th, 2010 4:41 am

In the comic books Lois has known Clark’s secret for almost 20 years – they are happily married! (it’s really disappointing that there are still some people who are not aware of that fact …).

Sorry guys, late hours led to a typo. Obviously she knows now. But the fact is the SV writers are going to put their own twist on the situation, which will be interesting to see. it’s a fine line to walk.

@Elan- We actually do have some Chloe news, it just is going to be a separate post. (the interview was really long) Just wanted to get some info to you guys ASAP.

I don’t know how to feel about what they said about Oliver searching for Chloe not being a good thing and “letting go” I don’t want him to give up on her! They have to be together till the end! I’m confused!

  8. Maud on July 30th, 2010 5:12 am

Oliver might have to let go? I don’t see that happening. It would make no sense with what Brian/Kelly and Justin said recently. I could see someone telling Oliver at some point to stop his research and to try to let go and move on but NO WAY he’s gonna accept it. It could be part of what Justin’s said about Oiver being the only to believe that she is alive and start working on his own.

Chloe and Oliver deserve to be together and have their happy ending.

Lois knows Clark’s secret in the comics but after that Clark became Superman.. not before it. It’s makes mae angry how many Clois fans likes misquote the facts in their favs. And after this Brian and Kelly interview I saw what i always had sure.. Look this quote: “And while in the Superman mythology, Lois shouldn’t know yet that Clark is Superman, that might not totally impact whether SMALLVILLE’s Lois is still in the know by the time the series ends.
“We’re sticking pretty true to our own mythology,” he says.

So Brian said what is clear: When is about what they wants in this case, is Clois and Lois without problems or excuses, there isn’t restrictions for them! They knows to talk about their own mythology! Lois and Clark are together in smallville is not because they are together in the comics, is because Brian and Kelly wants it! No matter if smallville is another story, is about Clark’s teenager, or THEY DID SPEND 7 SEASON AND 5 EPISODES TO SHOWING CLARK AND LANA LOVE AND INTENSE RELATHIONSHIP! THERE IS NO COHERENCE, IS ALL ABOUT WHAT THEY WANTS ONLY IT. I SAID IT BECAUSE FOR MANY YEARS WHEN WAS ABOUT LANA AND CLANA RELATIONSHIP WE DID LISTEN: “OH IN THE COMICS THEY AREN’T TOGETHER.. OR THERE IS RESTRICTIONS..!! OK, LANA AND CLARK ARE NOT TOGEHTER IN THE COMICS, BUT IN SMALLVILLE THEY WAS AND THEY COULD BECAUSE LOIS NOT TO BELONG IN THIS TIME IN CLARK’S LIFE BUT THE WRITERS MADE EVERYTHING TO PROMOTE HER IN THE STORY.. THEY CHANGED EVERYTHING, THEY DOENS’T CARE WITH ANY OTHER FANS, ONLY LOIS AND CLOIS FANS! THE COMICS FANS DOENST CARE ABOUT SMALLVILLE BUT BRIAN AND KELLY TO PRETEND TO MAKE THE SHOW FOR THE COMICS FANS.

  10. Annie on July 30th, 2010 1:31 pm

Cris…Your post makes no sense. Lois and Clark are meant to be regardless of when Clark becomes Superman. I read the Modern Age so yes, Lois only found out after they were dating. But guess what? Clark had a secret identity in SV (The Blur) and Lois only found out after months of dating.

Face it…Clana sucked, kid. I disliked Lana in the comics but SV’s portrayal made me want to throw something everytime I saw her face. Clark’s obsession with Lana? Held him back from becoming the hero he could be. They’ve alluded to that enough times. So he loved her, yes, but it was never true love nor was it functional.

  11. INTOX on July 30th, 2010 2:29 pm

@annie…and face it, Clois sucks so much more…..an lifeless relationship based on nothing, no sacrifices, no blocks on the road just an easy way coz it’s the “iconic” *cough* pairing!!

  12. Cris on July 30th, 2010 3:27 pm

Annie, the problem with you and all Clois fans is because you wants that all people agrees with you. You always misquote the facts, you always wanting to have reason.. because is iconic! Come on, no sense is you, girl! I don’t need to read comics books to know Clois story. I know superman story in comics. What i said and you doesnt accept is the fact that in smallville Lana Lang is Clark true love! Smallville is fresh and new version about Clark, so Clois is a strange in this story. Clois in smallville is pale, weak and forced! That’s the true! The fact that Lois have a story with superman in comics no change what was made in smallville with Lana and Clark. If the writers wanted another clois version in smallville i think that they should have made it since the season 1. But they didn’t it. Now after 7 seaosn and 5 episodes later they wants for me that Lois is Clark true love because in the comics she is? WAKE UP! To later for it. Like i said they should have made a Clois show like in the comics but they started to focus in Clana and now changed everything because clois is myhos! Mythos they are in comics because in smallville they are nothing!

  13. Alex on July 31st, 2010 5:50 am

As much as I enjoy Smallville, I’ve never had a great deal of respect for the fans. It always seemed like the group’s combined level of intelligence was, well, lacking. Now I’m starting to think it was just the Clana/Lana fans.

  14. Maud on August 1st, 2010 3:55 pm

When are we going to get the second part about our favorite girl Allison/Chloe?

  15. Kim on August 19th, 2010 5:29 pm

Smallville is awesome i hope they have clark become superman in at least the mid begining of season 10 so we can see him in action as superman for most of season 10. it would be disappointing to have him become superman in the very last episode and end the series there. oh well i guess it’s not up to me

  16. Frank on August 20th, 2010 11:29 pm

WHo the F**K cares about Clois?
I mean rules are meant to be Broken…
I cannot stand the fake tits Erica Durance..I mean really?
    Really?
Do you Brian and Kelly really think that we are buying this ridiculous lush that is Lois lane?
No wonder this series is failing..I guess when your head is so far up your ass…you really cannot see that you have ruined a perfectly good series.
It is s good thing Smallivlle is ending..Miss Mack run..Don’t walk ..Runnn..
From all the bull shit you have had to endure..All the 360 turnaround of your lovable character fan have watched since day one..
We fans have rooted for you since S1 all the way through 9.
We know that the bastards are trying to push you out the door to make way for Lois/Erica..
From taking you out of the Dp..to breaking off your bond with Clark..to now reducing your appearance on the show through 9 and now with limited runs in 10..They have finally put the nail in the coffin for smallville.
Go Allison Mack..Go to where you can fly..Where serious people can see your talent and your value..
After all this time as being the one true Prototype Lois Lane..You would think you could get some respect for saving the show and keeping it on the air due to your very large fan base….But alas..When dealing with asshloes as Brian Peterson and kelly Souders..That happens..
    Love live the Mack!!
