PARENTHOOD: Billy Baldwin on Board To Play Adam’s Boss, Plus More Season 2 Scoop

July 28, 2010 by

PARENTHOOD has added a new player to its roster.

Billy Baldwin — who previously worked with series star Peter Krause (Adam Braverman) on DIRTY SEXY MONEY — will portray Adam’s boss, executive producer Jason Katims confirmed on set Tuesday afternoon.

Said Katims, “He is the owner of the company and he’s sort of a larger-than-life, big picture kind of guy. We like the idea that Adam is the guy who does everything to keep the company going and [Baldwin’s character] is the one who gets all the credit and the money.”

And the girl.

“He will eventually, potentially, have a little romantic entanglement with Lauren Graham’s character,” Katims revealed.

The two will actually meet on the job as Graham’s character, Sarah, will be working for her brother Adam this season. So expect to see a lot more of his office come fall. In fact, the show has added two new sets — which I toured Tuesday — including said office and the attached shoe factory, where their product is apparently produced.

The number of episodes that Baldwin is scheduled to stay for has not yet been decided, but he will be doing several for sure, starting in the September premiere.

Still, he won’t be the only man in Sarah’s life this year, as there is also talk of introducing her ex-husband in an upcoming storyline.

Sadly — well, not for them —  her season one love interests are out of the picture for now since Jason Ritter has landed his own show and Mike O’Malley has been upped to series regular on GLEE, as GIVE ME MY REMOTE first reported. Katims did, however, say that he’d love to have either of them back, schedule permitting, and that he’s spoken to O’Malley about the possibility.

Other season 2 intel?

Tyree Brown who plays Dax Shepard’s (Crosby) son Jabbar has been promoted to series regular, and his girlfriend/Jabbar’s mom, played by Joy Bryant, is sticking around as well, so don’t expect that dance gig in New York to work out too well for her.

(Yay!)

Also, Sarah Ramos’ character Hattie is getting a new boyfriend, and if you think Adam had a hard time with the other dude, just wait ’til he gets a look at this next guy. He’ll be begging for the return of the cousin-hopping, Steve.

Steve, by the way, is not expected back. He and Mae Whitman’s character Amber have apparently parted ways. Producers are currently looking to cast a best friend for her.

What else?

Well, Zeek and Camille (Craig T. Nelson and Bonnie Bedelia) will be in counseling when PARENTHOOD picks back up and you can look forward to seeing meatier storylines for both Sam Jaeger (Joel) and Miles Heizer (Drew) at some point.

Excited?

You should be.

PARENTHOOD slowly but surely developed into a truly fantastic series last spring. The writers and the actors have struck a near-perfect synergy, with a subtle comedic tone that lives right in the middle of all the family drama.

It’s so good, you guys, that I have to say, it’s the show I’m most interested in seeing again this September.

So, yes, please watch.

We want to keep this one around.

Weird. I was under the impression that Adam Braverman owned his own shoe company. I mean his Dad kept going on about how he was the responsible one who ‘made it’ in the family, built a company. And Adam kept giving out as many shoes as he wanted. (I’ve worked in a small shoe company, and nobody but the owner does that – not even VP of Sales.)

No, Adam was seen as an exec at the company. I never had the feeling he was owner. Actually, I thoght he was more of a sales rep but it looks like he’s higher up.

Tonight was the first time I have watched Parenthood. I was very impressed, and of course I love that a Baldwin brother is on it. I have loved Alec Baldwin for too many years to count, and I thought that Adam’s boss looked like a Baldwin.
I will will be watching or DVRing, because I also have to watch Dancing With The Stars.

I also thought that Adam owned the company. In fact I thought it was something like braverman braverman sportswsre that was the sponser of the autism walk.

It might have made sense if the Billy Baldwin character was a partner or someone who bought the company – perhaps ahostile takeover or buying the assets of a suddenly failing company due to the recession
