BONES: Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan on Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz Directing

August 26, 2010 by

There’s been an overload of BONES material this week, hasn’t there?

Between the promo with season 6 scenes and that fun dance break, we got some good stuff.

Today, however, GIVE ME MY REMOTE has a little added bonus for you guys.

We chatted with BONES executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan about Emily Deschanel’s directorial debut and David Boreanaz getting his turn behind the camera this season…

David Boreanaz is set to direct episodes 10 and 16 this season, correct?
Hart Hanson:
10 and 16, right now, yes. Emily [Deschanel] is directing [pause]…

She said she’d be shooting right after Christmas break.
[BONES executive producer Stephen Nathan joins us]
HH:
Emily is directing episode 14? Do you remember Stephen? You have a better memory than I do.
Stephen Nathan: I’m not sure. It moved around a little bit. It was [scheduled to film] around the New Year.
HH: Unless I can talk her out of it.

No! No talking Emily out of directing!
HH:
It’s so hard!

I’m sure it is, but let her try!
HH:
We’re going to let her and we’re going to encourage her, but man, I don’t know why she wants to.
SN: She’ll do a great job.
HH: She’ll do a great job! She works 60 hour weeks. And now she’s going to add 10 hours to that week.

She was so excited when she talked about it.
HH:
We’re going to let her do it. She’s just in more scenes [every episode] than David.

Okay, that’s true. And her scenes have more difficult dialogue, what with all those scientific terms, etc.
HH:
And David has [previous directing] experience. But she’ll do a great job.
SN: And also, it takes longer for a woman to get done up [for television].
HH: She has two hours extra a day for hair and makeup. David walks in and [he’s out fast].

It’s so much easier being a boy, isn’t it?

Can’t wait to see her episode! It’ll be fantastic, as will DB’s episodes.

That stinks that she has to do so much more work while she directs, but I’m glad she’s getting at least one chance before the show runs its course. 🙂

It’ll be a great experience for her. I’m glad she’ll be doing it. DB is a great director. He did an awesome job on the 100th.

Surprised that DB is still on the payroll with his tarnised image this past entire year. Personal life is just that personal but how embarrsing for those standing next to him.

This article sounds liked they think a lot of EMILY/ THEN why for s6 you want her to look and dress older then she is/ EMILY deserves better.

If Emily is willing to work harder to enrich her CV of an important experience, I am so glad they have decided to let her do it.
Considering how Hollywood is treating actresses after a certain age, I think she is smart to enlarge her experience and expertise. I also have no doubt she will do a GREAT job. Actually I am disappointed that they waited season 6 before letting her do it.
David is really a very good director and also a very talented actor. Honestly I never idolized him, nor believed the careful marketing of his personal life he’s always done in the past (and still does with his wife). So, I only care of what he brings to the show: his talent, his commitment and hard work. And I’m thankful he’s giving the show, together with Emily, the amazing chemistry we love.
They are, together, the best TV couple on screen today. They can do drama, they can do romance and comedy. Superb!
Very, very interested to see Emily’s episode!!!

luc/ they know the truth/we know what the tabloids tell us/I BE PROUD.

They know the truth about it all and we know what the tabloids tell us and fabricated pics say to us too. I don’t bother with tabloids anymore. They are a waste of time and money. I ship them now and always will. You just can’t beat the show. It’s shipper heaven!

Retired truck driver here. Didn’t follow til I retired. It took a long time to convince myself that “over-the-top” smart people like “Tempie” really talked like that to lay people and didn’t realize how feelings got hurt. The Class Reunion helped me quite a bit. She does grow on you.

It’s like they are trying to talk her out of it. Like they don’t want her do to it =( I think she’ll do a great job, who cares if it takes a little bit more time, if she wants to do it than let her to it. If David gets a shot and now directing two more episodes why don’t you give Emily a shot, I mean you have to start somewhere don’t you so why not now. I love Emily and she will do a great job =)…. GO EMILY <3

OK lets stop with the negative comments about DB its over already and I am sure the rest of the cast dont give a C**P, secondly good for ED she will do a great job I am sure and bring something different to the episode, a new perspective maybe. I cannot wait for the new season we always have to wait longer here in the UK, that sucks!

i think it would an awesomely wonderful idea for Emily to direct one or more episodes. She’s very smart to learn the scripts with all the scientific terms so I think she’d be an excellent director ,too!!!!
