DROP DEAD Diva Season Finale Recap: Bad Girls & Freeze the Day

August 30, 2010 by

Hey DROP DEAD DIVA fans! How did you like this exciting season finale?

Show creator Josh Berman created quite a buzz when he tweeted that the last five minutes would be shocking, and they certainly were. Let’s get right to it!

In, “Bad Girls,” Claire Harrison, of our fave law firm Harrison and Parker, arrives, asking for help in a divorce against her husband. Parker is pleased to see her, which sets Kim on edge.

Jane and Grayson team up to represent Abbey Tilden, a high school student who is suing fellow classmate, Madison Thomas, after a racy photo of Abbey is posted on Madison’s blog. Jane and Grayson are determined to bring this “Mean Girl” down.

Things get a bit complicated when Jane figures out that Abbey took the photo of herself and sexted it to her (now ex) boyfriend. Jane figures the only way to win is if she can get other students to testify to Madison’s bullying. But when all of the witnesses calls in “sick”, Jane and Grayson lose that case.

Still determined to find a path to justice, Jane files criminal charges against Madison. Unfortunately Jane’s bad luck streak continues when Abbey is arrested for promoting child pornography. Surprisingly, it’s Stacy who saves the day by revealing to Jane that Madison’s mom is the one who re-posted the pic of Abbey out of revenge.

Outside the courtroom, things are not going so hot for our lawyers, either. Grayson is nervous about meeting Vanessa’s parents. His fears are realized when her parents talk a bit too much about future grandchildren, family vacation, etc. Yikes! When Vanessa asks him if he was nervous about Deb like that, he admits that he wasn’t. As a result, Grayson and Vanessa break up.

For the first time this season, I really genuinely liked Vanessa. Not because she wasn’t with Grayson anymore, but because I really felt like she was hurting and honest but also not willing to be in second place. You have to respect that.

Meanwhile, back at the law firm, Jane sees Claire Harrison kiss Parker, but she opts to keep the information to herself.

The episode ends with Jane and Grayson talking about Deb and Vanessa. Sigh.

“Freeze the Day”

Kim wavers back and forth on whether to tell Parker that Claire manipulated the firm into helping her with her divorce settlement, blackmailing her own husband to get a share of his wealth and negating the prenup they’d informally written on a bar napkin. Tensions flare when Claire rejoins the firm and Parker puts her in charge of one of Kim’s cases. Kim resents Claire’s way of getting what she wants, and she doesn’t back down when she’s confronted about it.

When Jane tells Kim that she saw Claire and Parker kissing, Kim is understandably furious. When Claire fires her, Kim has no problem telling Parker that they are over. I liked that Parker was distraught over it, and I really liked the end when he stood up to Claire. It was also a nice touch that things didn’t exactly end perfectly for Parker and Kim. Parker can be a real SOB sometimes, and I like the idea that he’ll really have to fight for Kim’s affections.

Speaking of fighting for affections, Fred and Stacy are caught up in a tussle when Stacy gets an acting job for a cat food commercial. Fred thinks that’s great news until he finds out that she’ll have to kiss her co-star, a man acting as her husband. Fred decides to tag along to her commercial recording, but Fred’s jealousy only increases upon seeing Stacy kiss other men.

He tries to play it off later, heeding Teri’s advice to be Zen about it. Stacy doesn’t buy it though and makes up stories to make him jealous. It was sweet, and while I mentioned I liked Kim and Parker being on the outs when the season ended, I was glad to see Stacy and Fred together. So far we’re one and one!

But what about Jane and Grayson? What about Josh Berman’s promise to us fans?

With Vanessa presumably out of the picture, would there finally be some major forward movement for these two?

The episode features them working another case together. They actually really do make a nice team in and outside the courtroom. Together they represent an ailing research scientist who wishes to cryogenically freeze herself in order to keep her body available for a cure to the disease she suffers from. Jane and Grayson fight for her right, proving that stopping her heart (necessary for the procedure) is not the same as committing suicide. They prevail but later find out that Kathy Miller is in fact not ill.

Further research reveals that Professor Miller wished to be preserved until the day when a cure for her late husband’s heart condition was discovered. Since he was also preserved, once the cure was realized, the two could be restored to full life, together. Grayson and Jane convince her that she is the one who could find the cure. It’s implied that Ms. Miller will in fact continue her research and not go through with her procedure.

Both Jane and Grayson struggle with putting their lives on hold for Deb and her memory. It spurs Jane on to decide to confess the truth to Grayson. Stacy is hesitant, but happy for her. Fred, meanwhile, in an almost Shakespearean portentous vibe, tells her it is not a good idea. Jane does not listen his warning. When Grayson called and asked her to meet him for a drink, she thinks he’s on the same page as her.

When she arrives, she has a musical daydream, featuring Paula Abdul, Grayson, Vanessa and Tyce Diorio (GMMR scooped the exclusive music video and you can watch it here.). The dream ends with Jane imagining her wedding to Grayson, but she’s shocked back to reality when Grayson has arrived at the restaurant with good news. They BOTH have something to say to the other, but he convinces her to let him go first.

Things seem to be looking up when he begins talking about not putting his life on hold anymore. Jane quickly agrees, hardly able to believe that they are finally on the same wavelength. But when Grayson asks Jane to be his best man in his wedding to Vanessa, she can’t fathom it.

Jane has heard enough and has to leave. She passes Vanessa on the way out who tells Grayson how upset she looked. Grayson rushes after Jane, but is hit by an oncoming car. Jane rushes to his side. She sees Fred standing in the crowd and begs him to do something. She pleads with Grayson. His eyes open, he sees Jane’s face, and one word escapes his lips before his eyes close possibly forever….

“Deb…”

Ah! Is Grayson dead? Will he even remember Jane OR Deb if he wakes up? What’s Fred’s part in all of it? Can you even STAND the idea of waiting a year to find out? At the time of this writing, DDD hasn’t been picked up for a season three. Let’s do our part to show the networks why we want the show back for another season. Comment below.

  5. lex on August 31st, 2010 5:32 am

I think that the season has to return to have a great history to continue and to take us to that magnificent place we all want to be in.

The reunion of the lost love was supposed to be the perfect finale. The history about this couple that where destine to be together after the tragic accident where Deb is taken a part from Grayson can not end like this.

Deb, being such a persistent and devoted true love, has not done everything to led Grayson to see that is her, his soul mate, the one that he is mean to be with even tough she is in some one else’s body, she should have the chance to have Grayson to recognize her as Deb.

This is a fantastic history please be not only professional but kind to us the views, we deserve a full series not a cut short, bad ending history.

    Love, should prevail.
    Finish it right please!!!!

I think this is one of the best “feel good” shows out there and it would be awful if it wasn’t renewed for a third season. Also, I would rather that Grayson fall in love with “new Jane” rather than love her only after he found out she is in fact Deb, since as we’ve seen, she’s not really Deb anymore either and not just because she’s in a new body.

  8. sayhello91364 on August 31st, 2010 4:22 pm

Lifetime has created with its associates the only network show I literally tune into outside of favored programs or movies through video on demand. If this show is not renewed, I will be very disappointed. On the other hand, the sort of cliffhanger Season 2 ended on implies Season 3 is in the bag.

  9. carmen on September 3rd, 2010 12:14 am

I love this show it has to be renewed, I can’t wait for it to return. why do we have to wait so long it would be so nice to have this show on every week

  10. Bonnie on September 4th, 2010 3:11 pm

Don’t kill off Grayson and bring the show back. This show is truely a gem amongst garbage TV these days. Let’s face it, shows like Grays’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Glee, etc. are trash and not appropriate for anyone under 17. DDD is fun, light-hearted, and entertaining. It is a show my teenager can watch with me. Wish it was on longer throughout the year. Great show!

  11. Karen on September 4th, 2010 8:49 pm

Please, please, please keep the show going! DDD is warm, and light-hearted. It’s a show I truly enjoy!

  12. Mandy Snider on September 5th, 2010 3:01 pm

I NEED to see Season 3!!!! AHHH!! PLEASE keep this show going – LOVE IT!

  13. Thaddeus on September 5th, 2010 7:25 pm

DDD is the best show ever. Grayson cannot be dead. The look on Fred’s face when Jane looked at him said there is going to be major drama in season 3. There has to be someway Jane and Grayson get together. My mother and I have a theory. The theory is since Grayson called her Deb and not Jane that meant that the dead can see the dead just like the living can see the living, which means Grayson knows Deb is in Janes’ body, but will he live. FYI: I broke out into a sweat over that scene. lol

  14. Saskia on September 6th, 2010 4:45 pm

PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW AROUND! This is one show that my girlfriends and I love to watch at the end of the weekend. It gives everyone a little bit more hope whether your single, or in a relationship and waiting for that ring haha! I think it is clear that this show appeals to everyone. I’m 22 and my friends, my mom, and her friends all love it too! Don’t let Drop Dead Diva Die!

  15. hamisa on September 6th, 2010 4:46 pm

DDD has to continue otherwise this whole show wont have no meaning.I was so upset with the ending simply b’se we have to wait onether year before we know what really happened to them . I think shows like this should always have a happy ending at season finale!

  16. Diane on September 7th, 2010 11:00 am

PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW AROUND! I agree with the comments that DDD is warm, and light-hearted and offers something for a wide range of ages and I agree that “the show is truely a gem amongst garbage TV these days.” I ,also, really want a season 3–I look forward to watching and ALWAYS DVR the show if for wome reason I can’t watch on Sunday. However, I disagree with the comment that this “sort of cliffhanger Season 2 ended on implies Season 3 is in the bag.” NOTHING IN TV IS IN THE BAG until the network says they have renewed the show —so people who like DDD should let Life time how much they want it to come back!

  17. keisha smith on September 7th, 2010 2:05 pm

Excellent show… Please make season 3

  18. Susan on September 9th, 2010 7:38 pm

You would have to be all idiots to not renew this series…..don’t be like the other networks….Give the people what they want!!! Drop dead diva is a awesome show!!!

  19. Tracy Howerton on September 10th, 2010 6:49 pm

I agree with everyone…..Season 3 is a must. It has to come back for another season. What sense does it make to end a season like that…there are a whole lot of open unanswered questions. PLEASE bring season 3 back!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Misty on September 10th, 2010 9:09 pm

omg there has to be a season 3! this show is so amazing!

  24. Linda Weaver on September 15th, 2010 7:18 pm

Please, please bring back another season (or 3 or 6). It’s true that 90% of TV these days is filthy garbage. My Mom and I watch this show every week and we love it!

  25. brittany mcquade on September 17th, 2010 6:43 pm

They have to write for season 3 it is one of the only tv shows i realy love watching!! Please bring it back we are a large group of dedicated followers and we love Drop Dead Diva!!

  26. J Nasr on September 18th, 2010 4:21 pm

There has to be a season 3!!! You can’t cancel it with such an ending! This show has enough fans to keep going, and these fans deserve to know the outcome of their favorite TV show! It can not end like this!!

  27. janis on September 20th, 2010 2:28 pm

This is on of the most enjoyable, refreshing shows on TV in years. Really deserves another several seasons! There are plenty of story lines the cast could support, it would be a shame to just end it here.

  28. Maggie on September 22nd, 2010 10:15 am

Very clever, and funny show..Please do not end it. I looked forward to it every week.

  29. Donald Leone on October 3rd, 2010 3:39 am

This show has touched my life and perspective so much. The day to day rises Jane’s deals with, her amazing talents: her facial expression, her cute grins, her eye brow lifts, everything; she has just inspired me so much. PLEASE BRING THE SHOW TO A 3rd season please.

  39. Vivian on January 3rd, 2011 5:40 pm

I have followed Drop Dead Diva from the word go and it would be devastating to end the show with us wondering. As a view and a fan, it is only fair to continue the episode with Season 3 so we know the outcome and a better ending.

  40. Kenna on January 10th, 2011 1:25 pm

I LOVE Drop Dead Diva!!! Its probably the most best show ever. I remember they got rid of Ghost Whisperer it made me so mad. They should never get rid of Drop Dead Diva, cause I watch it ever Sunday and never missed one either(: I cant wait for it to come back during the summer. I just wish it would come sooner then that. lol

  41. lori mola on January 25th, 2011 7:00 pm

No this can’t be happening – do not even consider not picking up the show for another season. It’s the best show! Smart, sophisticated and fashionable. I LOVE DDD.

  42. Sydney on February 2nd, 2011 8:29 pm

Drop Dead Diva is a wonderful story. All of my co-workers are waiting for Season 3! It is not just for the ending, it’s because it is a clean show that you can watch with your children. The “angel” makes us believe more, the story hasn’t been told a hundred times, and it’s cute and very intertaining! Please come back for more episodes. We need more shows like this. There are way too many shows about cops and killers.

OMG!!! I hate it. Hate the wait. How can they leave us hanging like that!!!! don’t they know what they’re doing to us?!?! Jane and Greyson must be together. It’s so painful to watch helplessly by the sidelines with jane and her devoted secret love and then have to watch Greyson love and grieve deb devotedly all the while deb is right under his nose and totally unnoticed. I love deb!!! in and out of janes body. She’s so fun and cool. she must must be with greyson. MUST!! oh and greyson is sooooo not dead. Over my dead body. Truely I don’t bellive it for a second, but if the impossible were to happen I would have to petition josh berman and totally sue or something.
