Countdown to THE EVENT: Will YOU Be Watching?

September 13, 2010 by

After a summer of relentless promotion and creative teaser trailers, NBC’s THE EVENT premieres in just seven days. Though the show’s ubiquitous ads invited viewers to discover, “What IS The Event,” the biggest question facing NBC executives is, “Will YOU be watching?”

Launching a show at 9:00 p.m. on Monday night is a dangerous proposition. Competing for eyeballs with established hits like DANCING WITH THE STARS and TWO & A HALF MEN will immediately test the wisdom of NBC’s scheduling strategy. Since the show features established stars from NBC’s 10:00 p.m. hits of the past, Blair Underwood (L.A. Law) & Laura Innes (ER), I was surprised to see this high concept program scheduled earlier in prime time. Hopefully, the competition will spur the creative team behind THE EVENT to focus on top-shelf writing and innovative storytelling.

The mystery surrounding the show’s overarching conflict is a direct appeal to fans of 24 and LOST, programs that encouraged (some might say demanded) intensive viewing habits. Whether you were a fan of Jack Bauer or Jack Shephard, NBC is risking its fall fortunes on gaining your attention.

This promo clip serves as a closing argument for THE EVENT, full of tantalizing scenes and first-person accounts from the cast members.

Will you be watching? If so, which shows will you be dropping from your regular Monday routine? What are the most interesting aspects of THE EVENT in your opinion? Do you think NBC has a new hit on its hands?

As a lover of LOST and almost all things SciFi, I will definitely be watching. We were burned by Flash Forward, but I have hope. 🙂

I’m not all that interested but I don’t want to miss out either, so I will probably tape “The Event” and watch “Lonestar” on FOX (which I think is a better pairing with my viewing of NBC’s “Chuck” at 8 and my beloved, I mean, ABC’s “Castle” at 10.)

Kinda want to catch “The Event” from the beginning…I didn’t become a Lost fan until 2/3’s of the way through and so I better watch this one, just in case.

Don’t know why everyone keeps complaining about Thursday nights…Monday is my night for television with the above watching/taping plus taping of HIMYM and Hawaii 5-0! Wow!!

I’ll tape it…. but oh wait…. The Closer and lie To Me will be gone, so damn, guess I can actually watch it to see where it fits on the DVR sched.
I’m only really excited about The Mentalist and Castle coming back. Meh about everything else. although I am loving Rubicon.

    I don’t think I am too interested.

Pretty pumped about it. I’ve had a void since LOST ended so maybe this is the perfect timing for The Event.

I was so disappointed by Flash Forward. It started off great then became dull and boring. I love any such show as long as what is presented could really happen. I wonder if these shows are hints about things that could happen around December 21, 2012
