CASTLE’s Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic Talk the New Nikki Heat and Dream HEAT WAVE Casting

October 29, 2010 by

CASTLE’s Nathan Fillion is a very busy man.

So when Give Me My Remote got on the phone with him Thursday evening, we were actually the ones to break the news to Fillion that former THAT ’70s SHOW star Laura Prepon would be playing Natalie Gray, the actress who will portray Nikki Heat in an upcoming CASTLE episode.

“I can only imagine there will be some flirting [between Castle and Natalie],” Fillion joked.

But now for the question of the hour: who should play Jameson Rook, the character Castle based on himself?

“Good question,” Fillion said. “Alan Tudyk. I would like Alan Tudyk to play that role. I would like him to be a really uptight actor, really method, really just drives you nuts, kind of actor.”

Um, that is a perfect choice. Let’s hope that works out.

However, CASTLE star Stana Katic wasn’t quite sure how Beckett will react to meeting Natalie and having a fictionalized version of her life playing out on the silver screen.

“I think that Beckett has gotten used to the glam behind Castle’s life,” Katic noted. “I know that they’re going to plan on having a couple L.A. episodes, so I’m sure that will all be woven into solving a crime. And I’m sure the color and glamor behind the movie version of a real person — in our story, let’s say Beckett’s the real person and then there’s a movie version of her — I think there will be a definitive difference. I don’t know how Beckett’s going to react [to the experience]. She’s gotten used to a lot of Castle’s glamor lifestyle.”

Yep, you read that right. The New York-based Beckett and Castle will be heading to California in an upcoming episode.

“We got very excited [when] they said we’re going to do some exotic locations for a CASTLE episode,”  Fillion said. “So we all got very excited and then they said the exotic location would be Los Angeles. I’m not sure exactly what we’ll be doing in L.A. I assume we’ll be on the HEAT WAVE set and whatnot. I’m not sure how that’s going to work out with jurisdiction as far as homicide investigations and police go, but they’ve always been very clever about that in the past.”

Might there be a murder on the HEAT WAVE set?!

“You know what, if that happens, it’s going to be one of those things like with Jessica Fletcher in MURDER SHE WROTE,” Fillion joked. “Like, don’t invite Jessica Fletcher to your wedding. Don’t invite Jessica Fletcher to dinner. If you do, someone will die! Don’t bring her to your family reunion, because someone is going to die! It’s one of those things — don’t bring Castle and Beckett to anything.”

We cannot wait to see what trouble Castle and Beckett bring to Los Angeles. How about you?

This is going to be such a fun and interesting storyline. I can’t wait! Being able to incorporate the aspects of Castle’s world with the police work is one of the things that makes this show so special.
