Is GLEE Planning a Justin Bieber-Themed Episode?

January 8, 2011 by

Well, this news might freak out a few Bieber fans.

According to TVLine, GLEE is planning to air a Justin Bieber-centric episode in February. Apparently the hour will feature his songs and Bieber himself will play into the plot, though as of now, he’s not set to appear.

Look, I understand that some of GLEE’s high school characters might have Bieber-fever. And if this comes to fruition, it gives GLEE even more buzz.

But come on! Is Justin Bieber really the most worthy person to get an episode devoted to his music? And if they have to pander to the teen audience, couldn’t they go for someone who has been around a little longer? Taylor Swift would have been a good choice, no?

Sigh.

What do you guys think? Is this a good move?

TERRIBLE move. i will 100% not watch this episode and I will seriously consider not watching Glee at ALL anymore. It’s been going downhill since Season 1, episode 13, and I don’t know how much more I can take. The 2 episodes the week it comes back may be my last 2 episodes.

I totally agree with you that this is kind of pathetic. They don’t seem to be doing bad ratings-wise so I don’t understand this choice. I’m sure the episode will rate well b/c of the Bieber fans who will of course tune in. But those of us who have been watching this show since the Pilot… the joke’s kind of on us this season. Really, this news is just another symptom of the bigger problem with Glee these days: the seeming greediness of Ryan Murphy and Fox and its triumph over storylines, continuity, character development, etc. It’s really not a show I care to waste my time with anymore.

i’m not a big fan of his but maybe glee can do something to make the songs better.

That’s it. If this is true, I’m out.

This is pathetic. Glee’s second season has the downfall of trying to draw in more people with big star-studded appearances and huge production numbers, which for some reason include bizarre and nonsensical mashups, like Singing in The Rain/Umbrella and Start Me Up/Living on a Prayer.

It’s lost itself in the greed of Fox and if they really have to stoop so low as to give this autotuned, lip-syncing hack his own episode just because a mob of pre-teen girls will tune in, then I’m done with it. I have more of a backbone than Murphy or Fox does .

Out of anybody in the whole wide world, why an ignorant and rude kid who sings about what he doesnt understand. Probably the most uninfluention ‘singer’ currently out there.

Glee has been one of my favorite shows since it originally aired. I do agree that some of the last few episodes have been a bit lame. I guess they’re entitled to a couple of lame/goofy episodes. In my view, a Justin Bieber episode would be another lame episode. The fans that do watch, for the most part are ’NOT’ Bieber fans. As a previous poster wrote, They’ll tune in and watch that one episode & move on.

I do have this to offer though. With all of the bullying that goes on in schools these days, maybe Glee should devote some time to a couple of episodes where the jocks that keep throwing drinks in the faces of the Glee club members or ramming them up against the lockers, get knocked down a notch or two. Not necessarily in a violent way, but that they do suffer some repercussions.

Mid show commercials where the jocks themselves come out and speak against bullying wouldn’t be bad either.

I liked the plot before and all the original things they did to develop the characters. I think great characters make the show. A bieber episode would be a hit with the fans, but its not something that would make the show as a whole, better. If it was me, I would put an episode of Michael Buble in. His songs tell great stories that would further the character development of each of the characters. Buble would definitely be a much better choice I think.

i’m defiantly not watching that episode. i loved glee but if they do that…they’ll break my heart.

If there was ever a time the cast needed to refuse to sing, it’s not. There’s strength in numbers! Ryan Murphy can’t fire them all! PLEASE don’t allow this!!

I have been re-watching season 1 episodes and it reminded me why I was hooked on this show. That Bieber kid annoys me and if this comes to pass, I will no longer be watching Glee. I have yet to figure out what the heck they are trying to do with this season.

Not that I even watch this show, but for those of you who do, then you should know this rumor is false:

  22. Ben Phelps on January 10th, 2011 1:30 pm

Yes, thankfully it looks like this report is false.

Myles McNutt had a nice analysis of this whole situation, though: http://cultural-learnings.com/2011/01/09/why-justin-bieber-on-glee-is-not-the-gleepocalypse/
