Michael Rosenbaum Teases His SMALLVILLE Return

March 4, 2011 by

After months of anxiety about whether original series star Michael Rosenbaum would return before the show concluded, SMALLVILLE fans were thrilled to learn last month that he will indeed reprise his role of Lex Luthor.

I caught up with Rosenbaum last night at the AMERICAN IDOL Top 13 party — where he was promoting his new series, BREAKING IN — and couldn’t resist asking him a few questions about SMALLVILLE. So who did Lex interact with in the series finale?

“Well, everyone is hoping I work with Tom [Welling (Clark)],” he teased. “I’m not going to say. You’ll watch the promos.”

One thing he was much more willing to talk about was his reasoning for coming back to the show.

“Fans. I wanted to do it for the fans,” Rosenbaum said. “I never wanted to hear ‘why didn’t you come back?’ [The show] started off with Lex Luthor and Clark when they were friends and Lex is going to go off and be the world’s biggest villain and Clark is obviously Superman. It had to end with them. It started with them as friends, it had to end with them. I had to do that. I think I did the right thing [coming back].”

I’m pretty sure we can all agree with him there, right?

What do you hope to see from Lex in the series finale?
