BONES: Where Do Booth and Brennan Go From Here?

February 10, 2011 by
Are we all good?

Okay.

As you guys know, Booth and Hannah are dunzo. Booth, dude, she freaked out last time she thought you were going to propose…why did you think this time would be any better?

For some of you, I’d imagine the abrupt breakup wasn’t what you were expecting.

Judging by some of the comments we got here on the site, I’m guessing several of you are just glad she’s gone, no matter how fast it was.

However, according to BONES creator Hart Hanson, the breakup was intentionally sudden.

“It should be a little bit surprising when it happens,” he said. “People should go, ‘Oh, it’s this one? It’s this episode?’ You know, I like the way we did the Angela-Hodgins wedding. It was just like, ‘bang!’ because that’s what happens to people. Things explode. Things explode and catch fire between people or they just explode, and that’s what we wanted.”

Keep in mind, just because she’s gone, it doesn’t erase what has gone down in these first 13 episodes of the season. Plus, now Booth and Brennan are single and with a certain amount of awareness of how the other feels about them.

So where the heck do they go from here?

When I talked with Hanson, I asked him whether Hannah would be the last significant other viewers saw for Booth or Brennan before the duo realized they should get together already. He quickly answered, “I’d never tell you that.”

He was, however, more willing to talk about whether he thought it was conceivable Booth and Brennan could be single together for a bit and whether they think B&B can be an actual couple for an extended time during the series…

Since Hannah’s presence had taken away some airtime away from fan favorites, will they be featured more now that she’s gone? And what did Hanson start to tease about where the season is going before catching himself?

But what do you guys think of the breakup scene? BONES fans have heard since this arc started that they would eventually love Hannah. Now that she’s gone, does Hanson think the fans’ opinions on her will have changed?

“I think, really, opinions will be divided on Hannah,” he said. “If we did it right, some people will say, ‘Oh my God, I hate her’ and others will go, ‘Oh. She’s got integrity.’ For us, she had to be a woman worth Booth liking.”

What do you guys think? Do you like Hannah a little bit more now that she’s in the past?

As far as I’m concerned, Hannah is the only one operating with any degree of sense here. Booth proposed to her a week after basically telling Bones he loves her more, and Bones didn’t balls up and tell Booth to suck it up and be with her. Why do I still watch this show!?

2. Try on February 10th, 2011 10:05 pm

I think Hart and Stephen need to stop trying to make Hannah happen. Most critics and fans hate her. Glad she is gone!

The episode was a mess. It could have been a great filler episode except for the Booth/Hannah break up and that ending scene. It was just so awful.

3. skylark66 on February 10th, 2011 10:10 pm

Are you friggin kidding me. Like Hannah, like we did before and she is so noble to call Bren to console him. What a b**ch. This is resolution?? I cant blame Booth, he tries to be the good guy and gets struck down everytime. I guess HH is tired of Bones and want to go on to his new show,….like I would ever watch it. I am pissed.

4. Ana (annabelle21) on February 10th, 2011 10:12 pm

I’m sorry, Mr. Hanson, but when have you NOT repeated a plot device?! Hannah wasn’t a repeat? Right… Do you by any chance remember a guy named Sully? You don’t? Huh. Funny.

This show is getting ridiculous; plotlines are all over the place and the whole change in the order of episodes is just making it worse. Honestly, at this point, I keep watching because Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz are amazing and deliver the most heart-crushing performances, no matter what material (or lack thereof) they are given. I’ll stick with “Bones” because of them but, at this point, I simply don’t care.

5. @McKaylaBug on February 10th, 2011 10:14 pm

No, I don’t like her anymore now than I did ten minutes ago when they were still together. I do see why she was necessary, but I see why taxes are necessary too. I don’t like taxes. I’m thrilled to see the end of this arc, and I can’t wait for the sniper arc to take center stage. I think the timing is perfect, because while emotions (and hormones) would normally be running very high with the knowledge of how each feels, I think most everyone’s attention will be directed towards the sniper. I can’t wait for the elevator episode! I think it’s going to be really great to get Booth and Brennan to lay all their feelings out. Good or bad.

Bottom line, I love this show. No matter what happens, that is a constant.

6. Simone on February 10th, 2011 10:16 pm

I think I have just been disappointed in how this storyline has played out. After all the build up over the last two seasons, to have Booth propose to another woman, knowing how Brennan feels and less than a year ago telling her that he would be there for the next 50 years, seemed like a cheap way to keep them apart. It didn’t enhance or prolong the sexual tension. It dissipated and took away from the storyline of the characters that are integral to the show. I also don’t understand why we are supposed to love Hannah. Because she turned down Booth? She was not fully formed enough for the audience to see her as anything, but another, tiresome, obstacle between B+B. I’m hoping now that the break up has happened, Bones will get back to its roots and begin developing a storyline similar to those that made Bones so compelling to watch in the first place.

7. Morgan on February 10th, 2011 10:17 pm

I told you on twitter before the episode started that I had hit my breaking point with season six. I did like Hannah, because she was nice. She was a good second best. The breakup while a relief, felt really weird to me. I’ve had a lot of those moments over the last few episodes. Things that were just strange for the sake of being strange.

I’m not sure I’ve really processed the episode. I feel like I could’ve just watched those last ten minutes, and that hurts. I like the show, but I went in tonight not caring. I knew that Booth was going to buy a ring and propose, but I didn’t care. That felt so wrong. I really hope that the rest of this season is stellar, because even with Hannah’s abrupt departure I’m still hanging on to Bones by a thread.
:/

From the way things were going, the writers wrote themselves into a corner and there was no expedient way to get from A to B without abruptly ending things, especially given that they lose several episode slots along the way. I am glad Hannah is gone and wish she had gone sooner, and felt it should have been complete and final, not with that “We’re not done here” line like the Gravedigger tossed off as she was convicted. The best acted scene was the bar at the end with Booth showing so much emotion and talking through clenched teeth about how the women he loved rejected him and he just cant bear it happening again so sets boundaries. His love of Hannah was never believable to me, given the set up of how he feels about love and Brennan and all that. It just never quite made it. Hopefully he and Brennan will work some things through and not get involved with other people. I dont understand still how the rest of the “friends” could so readily accept Hannah and why Sweets would, even drunk, not call him out on how he felt/feels about Brennan; and Booth saying This one’s not going anywhere but then asking Hannah to marry him. Very incongruent. I think I would have liked it better even if Hannah had said something pointing out that she was not the marrying kind, but she knows who is, and who loves him enough to die for him…. and let the light bulb go off and let him work it out how to handle it. I dont know. Episode was just unsatisfying, but the whole Hannah business has been. But the acting, especially the last scenes, was really well done.

9. Lisa on February 10th, 2011 10:23 pm

Word to all these comments. Do you know what is truly tragic? The fact that it’s making really high ratings now, and it wasn’t doing as well back in the early days when the writing was beautiful and they seemed to know where they were going. I was watching some older episodes this week, and not only does it seem like an entirely different show, but they were very overt in telling us Bones and Booth will be together soon. Oh to be young and stupid again.

10. Holly on February 10th, 2011 10:24 pm

This episode sucked is the best I can say about the episode. Someone hand Brennan Hannah’s used napkins so she can wipe Booth’s tears, he’s heart broken the love of his life is gone, for now.

11. erikakay17 on February 10th, 2011 10:25 pm

I never hated Hannah, because I always thought it seemed like the show was not attempting to replace Brennan with Hannah. Am I glad she’s out of Booth’s life? Yes. But I also appreciate how the show is leading its characters down twisted paths without a clear route in front of them – like real life! This show is art, and it explores the full depth of human emotion. I think that’s brave, and beautiful, and what makes all of us keep coming back even when it’s sad. This is real life. (Wait, Bones is fictional?? What??!)

12. Jessica on February 10th, 2011 10:26 pm

I have mixed feelings about whether or not I like or dislike Hannah more now that she is out of Booth’s life. Booth is an all-around good guy and any female who rejects a marriage from a guy like that must be stupid. However, I did feel bad for her when Booth gave her the cold shoulder.

Speaking of Booth, I was a little upset when he gave Hannah the cold shoulder but, considering his past romantic failures, he does have a right to. If the woman doesn’t want to settle down, marry, and start a family with him, why bother sticking around?

David Boreanaz did a stellar job in his role as Booth tonight! I totally felt his emotional pain when he was ranting to Bones at the Founding Fathers. I can only hope that Booth will someday soon find the happiness and family he desires in a woman. (*cough, cough* Bones *cough, cough*)

Also, I couldn’t help but compare Hannah’s rejection to Bones’ rejection. Anyone else see the similarities?

13. Josephsen79 on February 10th, 2011 10:32 pm

I have to admit I was very curious to see how this episode was going to play out. Things had been pretty quiet in my opinion about this episode. There wasn’t a lot of hype as there have been for other eps. I thought the main storyline with the BMX riders was a little weak, although there were some good points. Angela playing the tough FBI gal, was hilarious.

I have to admit that the break up scene was awkward. Not that breakups aren’t awkward. When Booth and Sweets are talking and Booth announces that he is getting Hannah a ring, you can tell he is LYING to Sweets about having it all planned. It was just another way for him to lie to himself too. That is why when he asked Hannah to marry him it seemed forced, awkward, and unbelievable. I think he is still grasping at straws to keep himself from being vunerable to his feeling for Bones. When she said no, I think he was more upset because it brought back the reminders of Brennans rejection rather then actually being rejected by Hannah herself.

This was the twist we have been waiting for. Not exactly as I would have expected to see it, but not too badly done. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Kudos to DB for the tremendous emotions he put in those last few scenes. I think that is the most emotion we have ever seen from Booth, and we all know it’s not just because of Hannah!

14. MJ on February 10th, 2011 10:42 pm

Seriously pissed off here. I’m as angry as Booth looked when barbie doll turned him down.

And his ‘take it or leave it’ to Brennan? Fine. I wish she would have called his bluff and walked out. What an ass.

In ten years when some entertainment site does a story on the ‘Ten Worst TV Series Stunts,” Hannah will be in the top five.

I’m glad I have the previous seasons on disc. I like those characters a lot more than I like what the writers have turned them into this season.

15. Jenny on February 10th, 2011 10:44 pm

I knew what was coming when I saw Hannah in the white coat- just like the one that Brennan wore when she turned him down. I was actually hoping that it would be a nice, big target for the Sniper, but no such luck.

16. BrainySmurfette on February 10th, 2011 10:44 pm

I just don’t know where to begin. I was so excited to watch the episode because they built it up so much. But these are the only emotions that I can fully express. I cannot believe that Booth let Sweets (even though it was in a drunken haze) convince him that he should somehow ask Hannah to marry him. The breakup scene felt kind of rushed and very weird to me. His proposal was off, her answer, although they attempted to write it in an honest and trite way just made her seem like a horrible person. Really, you’re not the marrying kind –but you move in with a guy whom you KNOW wants more. And then, she says something along the lines of, feeling like it’s not the end for both of them (Is that Hart Hanson’s way of saying she’s probably coming back???) and the fact thast she for some reason assumed that they could just go back to normal after SHE REJECTED HIS PROPOSAL.

But what does all of this mean to Bones and Booth? I feel like, he bared his heart and soul to him in the end of Season 5, saying that love is not ephemeral and that he knew from the beginning that this could be “it”, that it would last for 30, 40, 50 years..and then not even a year later – he’s proposing to ANOTHER woman. Someone who is NOT a consolation prize. So what does this mean for Brennan? I hope they don’t get together by the end of Season 6 because I think it would just prove everything that Brennan has hypothesized all along – that love is a transient feeling. How can Booth just jump from one woman to another?

I think Season 6 is a mess. The only reason why I’m still holding on is due to the caliber of acting that Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz gives us in these episodes. And some few and far between funniness. I miss the old Bones. I don’t know anymore.

17. Liz on February 10th, 2011 10:45 pm

I don’t think the split was abrupt. I think it was telegraphed on an anvil the size of Nevada’s divorce rate since the episode she moved in with 2 or 3 bags. The arc was clearly ill conceived- drawn out longer than needed then cut inorganically (if not in timeline or episode #s, then in development of the story). No way is HH going to claim the mixed effect was what he intended. Please stop the BS. It interferes with the story.

18. Tiffany on February 10th, 2011 10:46 pm

For all of the hype…this episode was BORING!!! Even the break up scene (HH is delusional if he thinks anyone was blindsided by this) was pretty boring. I’m glad Booth, technically, dumped her…but it felt like a cop out. So many people have said if Booth isn’t the one to end it, then when Booth and Brennan do get together it will feel like Brennan is the consolation prize. It seemed as though having Booth end the relationship after Hannah rejected the proposal was the writers’ way of avoiding that. If that’s the case: it didn’t work.

I neither like nor dislike Hannah anymore or less than I did before (there was never enough substance to her for me to have an opinion one way or another), but I will say that I LOVE that she called Booth out on not listening to her, because THAT is the problem with Booth’s love life. He is in love with love and doesn’t actually listen to the women he is in love with.

The only hope I have left for the season is that this already hyped up elevator scene isn’t as big a let down as this episode was, and that if anything happens B&B wise, Booth initiates it because it is about damn time he listened to his heart again!

19. BrainySmurfette on February 10th, 2011 10:49 pm

I just want to add – even though people may disagree with me.. I wish she walked out on Booth’s sorry ass when he told her she could take it or leave it.

No amount of hurt, can change the fact that he’s been acting like a douchebag ever since he came back with Hannah. Yes, Brennan hurt him but in Season 6, he hurt Brennan right back and guess what? She MADE AN EFFORT, and still remained to be his truest and most loyal friend- even being friends with his girlfriend. So yes, she should have walked out on his sorry ass. Really crush him where it hurts for the way he’s treated her this Season.

But alas! She stayed which shows exactly how much he means to her. I applaud Brennan for what she did. But I’m still super annoyed at Booth and the writing. I don’t even know if I’m watching the next few episodes. Jeez.

20. Vee on February 10th, 2011 10:50 pm

Yes, Jessica, Hannah even had the white coat on and it was dark. I know that sort of mirrored repetition is something they like to do with this show, just like the “Evil Booth” sniper arc beginning, or the themes that run through every episode. Is that a nod to the fans who obsess over the details? If it is, well, thanks! That is fun trivia. I agree with some of the other posts that the older shows seemed very different and in many ways were better. I also think the beautiful brainy forensic anthropologist and wisecracking handsome FBI partner, was novel then, but now there are several shows using a similar formula and I think there is yet another one due to come out. I have high hopes still, that there will be more dynamic episodes coming. DB and ED are so good at their craft though – the amount of emotion they convey with subtle looks and tone shifts is fantastic. I look forward to their scenes together the most. TJT has been the most consistent in his character I think, and he is also so very talented. And Hannah is out! She was not a likable character, she was odd. I could not understand her tolerating Brennan or Brennan becoming her buddy. Just couldnt make that leap. So whew glad that bit is done! Sniper! Action! Sexual tension! Babies!

21. Anon on February 10th, 2011 10:57 pm

For the whole Hannah-Booth breakup scene to work, I needed to see more of a connection between them. Instead of heartbreak, I was thinking, “what is up with all the lingering shots of Hannah’s holding-back-tears face?! Jeeezus. Let it go, HH. You still have to convince me she’s a real journalist. Don’t even try to say she’s feeling real heartbreak here.” So yeah, I shouldn’t be feeling distracted like that, especially since I didn’t even bother with Hannah hate.

And word on the case being another fail. This almost became the 3rd non-murder this season. So it did end up a murder, but there wasn’t a satisfying motive to the murder either. C’mon. The post Idol crowd doesn’t want to see a middle aged man go through CW kind of romance. I can’t believe this mystery held their interest.

22. Audrey on February 10th, 2011 10:58 pm

What I wanted:

Booth buys a ring because he’s still trying to convince himself and everyone else that he truly wants Hannah. But when he really considers asking her to marry him he doesn’t because he realizes that she isn’t who he truly wants. The reality of the fact that he can’t bring himself to marry her makes him reconsider his relationship with her in the first place…which of course leads to him breaking up with her.

What we got:

Booth is rash. Like others have posted, I still don’t believe that he loves her as much as he loved (and loves) Brennan. So he’s just lying to himself!

I like what Josephsen79 said, “When she said no, I think he was more upset because it brought back the reminders of Brennans rejection rather then actually being rejected by Hannah herself.”

He’s just pissed and hurt at his rejection. And, it wasn’t fair of Hannah to stay with a man who WAS the marrying type. Did he love Hannah? Sure. Did he love her as much as he loved someone else? Well, considering that he told Brennan that he wasn’t going anywhere I’m gonna say no.

Hannah IS a plot device. Look at where Brennan is now compared with before Hannah. Who cares about Hannah herself. Not me. But I’m glad Brennan is finally able to face her feelings for Booth. Enough that she would never walk out the door on their partnership. She chose to be what he needed and it’s proof of her love for him. YAY! Brennan loves!

That last scene was so brilliantly acted I almost cried.

23. Vee on February 10th, 2011 11:00 pm

Josephsen79 – Ooooh, very good! I like that point that Booth was more upset because of the reminder of Brennan’s rejection than of Hannah’s actual rejection.

24. carl on February 10th, 2011 11:01 pm

IN my opinion BONES should of said no to drinking with booth and at least started to walk out the door/PAST seasons BOOTH would of went to church, this seasons he is a drunk,HART HANSON should tell fox he dont want a s7 the way he has hurt fans with this hannah story arc.

25. Liz on February 10th, 2011 11:05 pm

Did Booth throw the ring into the river/pond?! ARRRGHHHH- live happily ever after with Hannah, go use Bones for a shoulder to cry on, go to Vermont with Sweets 🙂 Whatever you decide, hock the ring and donate.

The ring is a good metaphor for the entire Hannah arc. A complete waste that played no role. A waste of screen time and a waste of the characters.

26. Tiffany on February 10th, 2011 11:11 pm

Has anyone else noticed Booth’s complete lack of ability to compromise where relationships are concerned? I am so sick of him whining about his love life, when he keeps doing the same thing to sabotage every relationship.

27. JO on February 10th, 2011 11:12 pm

Ring = waste. Very good. You forgot to add, a costly waste. Look at how much time the show wasted on her and what a hit the show has taken- it’s never going to be taken seriously as a drama or dramedy again. I think the show will become an industry joke, if it hasn’t already.

What does this mean for Booth and Brennan? For me, the exact same thing as before. Regain the respect for the partnership first. Regain the Heart-Brain balance. Stop blaming one side, acknowledge problems on both sides.

28. JO on February 10th, 2011 11:14 pm

Tiffany, agree 100%. It’s not about Hannah or Bones. It’s about his vision of love and marriage. In that final scene at the bar, I wanted to say, Yes! Please look at the evidence of why all the women rejected you. It’s your way or the highway. So what choice do the women have but the highway?

29. Liz on February 10th, 2011 11:22 pm

@BrainySmurfette, I at least agree. I think he’s been douchey, it doesn’t mean I hate him. It just means I want his douchey behavior acknowledged. I too applaud Brennan’s honoring her friendship in the last scene, but I don’t have to be as noble. I sat through this mess of an arc. I want some satisfaction.

@Tiffany. Oh- Booth’s inability to compromise and accept other perspectives has been noted. It was a big topic in last week’s episode comments. I can understand why Bones wanted to be so nice to him since the wound is raw, but I really need someone (Cam?) to slap some sense into him. Stop the pity-party and examine the problem objectively.

30. Vee on February 10th, 2011 11:22 pm

So does Booth get diagnosed with PTSD and alcohol abuse? Does Sweets regain his intelligent objective assessment ability? Does Brennan stop being intimidated and speak up to Booth or maybe smack him again? Does Angela deliver some witty concise translation of everybody’s feelings in one public fell swoop? Does Caroline come in and scold everybody? Does Pops say “I dont think so” when Booth stops by and says he is swearing off women? Does Hannah run off with some high level foreign diplomat? or Sully? Does the sniper try to kill Brennan and Booth in a frenzy reacts like the Booth of old? And how does this Locator guy figure? Is Zach still in the loony bin? I will watch for the follow up on this episode. There are some great fans with great ideas! I hope the writers lift some of them!

31. Teri on February 10th, 2011 11:26 pm

I don’t have time to watch much television is there another big loser like Booth who’s supposed to be a hero?

32. Anon on February 10th, 2011 11:33 pm

I think the comments I’ve read do a better job of adding emotional depth to the Hannah arc than the show did. But, I never felt anything for Booth and Hannah together- not regret that it might be real love, not frustration that Booth was clueless, just nothing for them.

I am sorely disappointed at the anticlimactic ending. As always, the official spin on the ending is full of BS. Even a casual viewer could have predicted it in Hannah’s first episode. Boring. Hannah had so many bizarre scenes (freaking out because your boyfriend cooked dinner goes beyond commitment phobia, the weird as hell sunglasses scene, the weird way she spoke) that I was holding out for a CRAZY revelation. Wouldn’t that have been fun? And it would make sense that Booth might attract a crazy person on the rebound in a warzone. Something. Anything to make the entire Hannah arc less predictable and more interesting.

33. Vee on February 10th, 2011 11:35 pm

One more bit – for me to think Hannah had integrity would have been for her to step aside when she realized (as she did early on) that Booth and Brennan had a special relationship, and she got wind that Brennan indeed cared deeply for Booth. Hannah came across as a user of people. Booth expecting so much of people and trying to make decisions black and white and either or, good or evil, for me or agin me, was brought out in this episode. And we thought Bones was just light entertainment! B&B are wounded warriors both, who each have to have the other prove over and over again that they will be there no matter what happens.

34. Drippan on February 10th, 2011 11:41 pm

I really thought the writers wouldn’t/couldn’t make Booth look anymore pathetic but they have finally succeeded. Booth is a loser and a quitter the second he is turned down.

Now if B&B get together, I will see Brennan doing it out of pity and giving Booth pity f-cks the rest of her life.

BTW, I loved it that you slammed HH. I agree that I don’t mind B&B apart as long as it is written well. That is the thing that they are missing…..GOOD WRITING! My jaw dropped when you made that comment.

35. JK on February 10th, 2011 11:42 pm

“is there another big loser like Booth who’s supposed to be a hero?”
–> At the risk of attracting raging DB fans, I’m going to quote this. It’s the contrast between the way he acts and how much the show sets him up as perfect and blameless that’s the problem. For the record, I have no problem with the complex, flawed main character.

When I saw the episode Booth blew off friends to get laid, I did hate him. But my other thought was that this is no way to appeal to the coveted 18-49 male demographic. The Bro Code is sacred above all else. I thought the same thing tonight. How is this Booth appealing to the 18-49 audience? At least with the sniper episode, I didn’t like him but could see how casual guys tuning in might. And it’s not like this episode was satisfying to long time viewers interested in BB. So who are they aiming the show at?

36. Liz on February 10th, 2011 11:51 pm

Hannah & Integrity

Who watches the most excellent Parks & Recreations? Hannah reminds me of Justin Theroux’s character, Lesley Knope’s short term boyfriend. Like this P&R character, Hannah has the most amazing adventures and everyone loves her. But she’s a “tourist,” “vacations in other peoples’ lives,” collects pictures and stories. But she doesn’t appreciate people and is at heart, self centered. It’s odd to think of going to a comedy for such subtle characterization templates, but that’s how Hannah struck me.

37. historynut on February 11th, 2011 12:04 am

Liz I loved this: “Did Booth throw the ring into the river/pond?! ARRRGHHHH-”

With Lincoln in the background the water had to be the reflecting pool (but not as there are no bannisters like they were standing by — er– I digress.)

When Booth did that I first gasped and then I rolled my eyes.

I’m a DC tour guide. Now, every time we walk by the Lincoln I will look at the water and wish wish wish I could fish that dang ring out!!

The good news is Hart can now write a book: How to Destroy a Top-Notch Series in 22 Episodes or Less. He’ll make a fortune. It will become a mandatory text for every college film and television program in the U.S. and a must-have for every network executive.

When I look at the series arc up to episode 99, and then think about where it is now…I still can’t believe how quickly it all fell apart.

39. Minority on February 11th, 2011 12:13 am

Where Do Booth and Brennan Go From Here? Same thing we’ve been saying before this episode. Find the balance between heart and science so they can have a ***mutually*** learning partnership. I don’t think they’re anywhere close to a satisfying romance right now, and not because of HH’s brilliant Hannah shaped plan to avoid the Moonlighting Curse.

My question from this episode is: Does Booth ever learn anything? He blows his chance in the 100th by giving Bones an ultimatum, blows his relationship with Hannah by giving her an ultimatum on marriage, stands there while she says, ‘I don’t know why you didn’t listen.’ Then he goes to the FF and gives Bones an ultimatum ‘take it or leave it.’ He’s lucky Bones has a generous heart and stayed. (And I don’t think this is a new side of Bones that we learned through the Hannah storyline. I think she would have stayed in seasons 1~5 too. So nope, still not seeing the purpose of Hannah.)

40. Isa on February 11th, 2011 12:31 am

Marisa, thank you for the directness of your questions in your interview with Hart. YOU TELL HIM LIKE IT IS.

41. Kim on February 11th, 2011 12:35 am

Exactly who is the targeted audience of this show? The biggest coveted demographic is the youngest age group, I believe. That is who shows want to attract. Bones has nothing occuring or happening that would appeal to this age group. Lets face it, Booth is in his forties and is losing his appeal with this whiny and jerky portrayal. He is really starting to look like an old guy.

Anyone new turning in to watch this show is going to be turned off by it. Brennan is also not as fun as she used to be. She is bland compared to what she used to be in season one or two. Her lines and delivery now are quite stupid stilted and make her sound idiotic. She is suppose to have a steep learning curve, but she isn’t shown that way anymore. It is like she is becoming less intelligent with each episode that airs.

This show is showing aging actors in boring, repetitive and contrite situations. How do they expect to hold onto any audience tuning in after American Idol. As a fan I can hardly stand to watch these season six episodes. They also have all these viewers tuning in after watching earlier season episodes on TNT and they are being subjected to this crappy writing and horrible storylines, with unrealistic and drastically different characters than who they were previously written to be in previous episodes. This show is turning me off, and I have seen every episode. I can’t imagine what new viewer might be thinking.

42. bonesparticulat on February 11th, 2011 12:37 am

Hanson and Nathan are just so patronizing, it’s offputting. They deliberately misinterpret what fans want from the show and talk down to us. Bullocks.

43. Mary Pat on February 11th, 2011 12:38 am

What sticks in my mind is when Hannah said, “I thought we would have more time together before it came to this.” or words to that effect. So in other words, she knew from the start that he was the marrying kind, she wasn’t, and she was just going to play house for as long as she could, but with no intent of really being in the relationship. This is exactly what Brennan feared when she asked, in ep 2, if Hannah was really serious about Booth.

So why did HH think we were supposed to love this character? We won’t even talk about sunglasses The whole H. arc has been so poorly done. I thought this ep. was really unsatisfying. Particularly after last week’s remarks made by Booth to Bones. The disconnect between last week and the proposal doesn’t make sense, and , imo, can’t be justified by he was drunk and pushed into proposing by Sweets.

That remark by Hannah– I don’t think we’re through. was really depressing–

Re Brennan asking “what happens next” I thought she was just asking an in-the-moment question, like what are you going to do about Hannah– didn’t expect the Booth challenge for her to take a drink or the door.

If it weren’t for ED and DB I would stop watching. It’s such a shame that the writing has been so poor. I know I won’t be buying season 6. I wonder if a decline in Season 6 sales will make the point.

44. Meezers4me on February 11th, 2011 12:42 am

I think I recall reading somewhere that the order that they shoot the episodes isn’t necessarily the same order in which they are shown. So, I was wondering if the Sin in the Sisterhood episode was supposed to come after tonight’s episode? If so, it would seem to make more sense in the B&B story arc – ie Hannah says no to Booth’s proposal and THEN B&B have the conversation about how you can love so many people in the world but there’s only one you love the best/what if you missed your chance/that person isn’t going anywhere.

45. julianne on February 11th, 2011 12:54 am

Wow most of you people are so critical and depressing. I’ve been watching Bones since season two and have watched the characters grow from two damaged people from abuse and desertion to true partners who are their for each other when the chips are down. Brennan in the final scene is so understanding and loyal to Booth she has changed so much. Remember when he told her about his gambling problem on their first case together. She left because she knew he was wanting more than something casual. She freaked out then but now even though there is no direct benefit to her she stays by his side. Maybe in her mind this scenario is similar to when Booth was there for her when Sully sailed off to the Caribbean and left her behind. Sully and Hannah are very similar characters because they are so self-involved that they don’t realize how their lifestyles hurt the ones they love. Booth is drunk at the end of this episode and probably not only angry at the women in his life but at himself for resorting to alcohol just like his abusive loser father did in the past.
Brennan realizes that Booth probably still thinks of her as someone who will run out on him if he turns back to her. She knows that she has to show Booth that she is going to stick around that’s why she decides to stay. After all Booth has abandonment issues too. Didn’t his father run out on him and Jared? What happened to his mother? Is she dead? Did she run away from his abusive father?
I’d be desolated if every woman in my life rejected me too. Give the guy a break people.

46. ellen on February 11th, 2011 12:55 am

For me Hannah was a total fail as a character. I never believed who she was supposed to be–this brilliant, daring, intuitive woman who stole booth’s heart. I never believed he was in love with her despite all his words. So when he seemed to hastily and impulsively say he was proposing then bought the biggest ring because she pushed him–I thought, Oh no he isn’t going to do this. And then he makes this totally sincere proposal–so what are we to believe? he reallywas in love with her/ Ugh.
And Hannah- ‘what’s wrong with a good time” “I’m not the marrying kind but I know you are” “can’t we just pretend this didn’t happen” ” I was hoping we wouldn’t get here for a while”. So, in other words, you love him but you’re only interested in a good time and despite Brennan’s warning not to break his heart–you knew eventually you would–and you did.
so Hart, honestly and with all due respect. How am I supposed to love Hannah when she just crushed booth?????
a total fail for me as a character. Did the story bring out the best in Brennan? absolutely….she knows and demonstrated what true love and devotion is about. She was there for him and supported Hannah because she loves booth and wants him to be happy. So important. As for what Hannah has done for booth? we have to wait and see…..
glad she is gone. and No we won’t see a guy for brenna.
glad she is gone.

47. anonymous on February 11th, 2011 1:01 am

Whew, great comments everyone. Agree with so many- boring case, boring love triangle, predictable, no payoff, still don’t like Hannah, HH still condescending, Booth still stubborn, long way to recovering old chemistry.

Liz, you rock! and Ron Swanson is the fount of all wisdom, including insight into Hannah. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I think you nailed it on the Justin comparison. The cool, popular “tourist” until you are reduced to a story in her collection. She can act sad in that last scene, but her emotions came out of nowhere. Bones gave her the lecture when she first moved in and she bonded with Parker. She’s totally the inconsiderate tourist. The thing is, Booth was her chump. I get that many fans feel betrayed by Booth, but for me, I just think, sucker. That doesn’t seem like a good idea.

48. Lonely Snowflake on February 11th, 2011 1:22 am

Really glad I found this site- respect to Marisa for smart questions and love reading the comments.
Julianne, with sincere respect to your points, to respond,

“Brennan in the final scene is so understanding and loyal to Booth she has changed so much.”
-> She ran out in their first meeting, and she was afraid when it came to giving herself a chance in the 100th. But she’s been there for Booth since season 1. In fact, since season 1, she’s always been finely attuned to Booth’s emotional needs. I don’t think Bones standing by Booth was anything new, and we didn’t need the Hannah arc to know this about their relationship.

“I’d be desolated if every woman in my life rejected me too. Give the guy a break people.”
-> If Booth gets rejected so many times, it’s time for self-reflection. People said it above, but he himself won’t compromise or learn. I think Booth has the emotional maturity of Ted on HIMYM. At least on HIMYM, the show lovingly mocks him for it and it’s a learning process. What’s been lacking so far this season is self reflection from Booth on his part in the failed relationships (and the writers are strangely denying this, so we may not see it at all). Booth is not a young man. After Rebecca and Bones and his overall life experiences, to me at least, his lack of self-awareness severely undermines his character and his inability to compromise is unattractive, especially since his principles on love and life can be conventional/narrow minded.

49. Joy on February 11th, 2011 1:31 am

@ Julianne While I don’t agree with your reasoning of why Brennan left that first time – going WITH that idea shows that Brennan STILL had more heart and concern for Booth back then than Hannah ever had. She WASN’T the marrying kind at all then. She could have stayed and used him for sex, but she didn’t – because she saw he wanted more. Your scenario points out that, even then, she put Booth first. Her behavior isn’t a new thing.

(In case you’re wondering, I think Brennan left for exactly the reason she said – tequilla. I think she felt if Booth wanted more than a one night stand, it was best not to start out with drunken sex. Why do I think that? Because Brennan’s character doesn’t lie, she’s straight-forward. However, this would be a completely different discussion

50. Eridapo on February 11th, 2011 1:36 am

Thanks Hart. Six wasted years.

51. Joy on February 11th, 2011 1:38 am

Oh, just a general point: Hart thinks Hannah’s behavior showed integrity? Seriously? She knew who he was and used him anyway – because she was tired of sleeping alone. I wonder WTH he considers dishonest?

52. JJ on February 11th, 2011 1:42 am

I would pray that this episode finally puts the kibosh on Booth being preachy/making judgments about other people, relationships, and love. Though he was still pretty dismissive of the riders’ lifestyle and HH and SN still insist he’s perfect. Whatever, this show is so confusing because they don’t make sense anymore.
And Sweets goes from questioning Booth being over Bones to asking him for relationship advice to being his cheerleader for proposing to Hannah? Again, makes no sense.

53. Lonely Snowflake on February 11th, 2011 1:54 am

One more thing- I miss Bones caring about the victims. That unflinching devotion to finding out the truth, giving their life meaning by finding things out about their lives, bringing justice. Does she no longer care unless she sees parallels to her own sad, loveless life in the victims? Is the case an excuse to spend time with Booth?

Just from memory, the last couple of cases, starting with the Brennancentric one – accidental death, unnecessary death of call girl (excuse for dead body, why not just pay her off), predictable murderer for predictable reason (no element of mystery to the polygamy plot re: murderer or motive), and this week, a semi-murder-accident without satisfying motive. It’s no wonder Bones doesn’t care about the victims. The writers don’t. They’re more interested in playing head games with the shippers. Sad.

54. G'night! on February 11th, 2011 2:46 am

My 3 cents-
1. Booth is too old to be this emo. There has to be a better way to solve the Am Idol retention problem.
2. Dude, if 3 women reject you, the common ground is you. Watch an episode of Oprah, read a book, book a session on the couch, it’s time to figure out what’s wrong.
3. Bones is a bigger man than Booth. He’s been acting petty all season long (regardless of whether it was justified or not), then gave her a cold “take it or leave it” and she stayed. (See also #2 on not blaming other people.)

55. Parsons on February 11th, 2011 3:05 am

Has my opinion of Hannah changed? Nope, I still think she is annoying as hell, thoughtless, self-centered, and thoroughly unprofessional (aside from the fact that she enjoys sex under a fig tree in an active war zone, let’s not forget the time she wore a see through blouse to an interview). To that, we can now add inconsiderate and just plain stupid. Still baffled by the assurance that we will love her by the time she exits the show. Why would we love her when she basically admitted that she knew what Booth’s intentions were all along but thought she could continue using him for sex?

This was just another in a long line of poorly written, unsatisfying episodes. Did we really need a scene where Fisher pees his pants because Brennan won’t let him use the rest room until he delivers his report? How insane was it for Booth to propose because Sweets bruised his ego? And what was up with him buying the largest ring he was shown then tossing it into the water when we’ve been told for five seasons that he lives in a crummy apartment because he uses his small paycheck on things like rent and food and child support? Sometimes I wonder if the writers even watch the show,

To me, the whole proposal seemed to come out of the blue, and not offered with sincerity or careful consideration. In order for me to love Hannah, there would have been no proposal at all. I would have liked the episode more if she had bowed out gracefully and told Booth that he belongs with Brennan or better yet if he had realized it himself and never peoposed in the first place. For Hannah to leave and basically leave the door open to return for more no strings attached sex was just another idiotic move intended to stress out the shippers.

56. carl on February 11th, 2011 5:52 am

BOOTH didnt hannah easily shack-up with you,all this did was give him an excused to get her out his apartment/but not out of his bed, fans we are being jerk around. feel let down by bones for even going to the bar/sure hannah moved into bones apartment.

59. Samantha on February 11th, 2011 6:51 am

Ok look I love Bones dont get my wrong. I think it is a great show but this whole cat and mouse thing with Booth and Bones needs to stop. I think this show can handle them being a couple. Booth poping the questio on the episode last ngiht seemed to me to be a way for Booth to prove he is over Bones. If you look at the ending of last weeks episode it is clear he still loves her. Th whole sccene where Booth is talking about the person you love more I got the impression he still loved her and he loved Hannah. with that said I think Hannah probabely seemed like a good idea to Hanson and the other writers but ended u being a total fail. I thin kthe writers just need to let lem be a couple and get it over with and let us all have some relif

60. marple on February 11th, 2011 7:22 am

Wow i didn´t think it could get any worse. I am so happy i stopped watching. Booth this season is so immature, it´s unbelievable. His notion about relationships is so skewed, like a little girls look for a fairytale. Then if anyone goes against it it´s instand goodbye.
He was supposed to be the one who knew about love and relationships. What a laugh. Then how can he not know that relationships is all abóut give and take and to work together at making it good, to make sacrifices for each other. Wanting the one you love to be happy. Anyone seen that about Booth this season? I sure didn´t up to the 7 th i saw. This episode seems to make that even more clear.
I never hated Hannah and i think Booth just used her to patch up his hurt ego from Brennans no. His proposal was his way to torpedoe the relationship. He knew she would say no after she freaked earlier when she thought he was going to propose.
Agree with those of you who said Brennan should´ve walked out when he said that at the end. Maybe that would make him wake up and stop being pathetic.

61. carole on February 11th, 2011 7:45 am

62. Cece on February 11th, 2011 7:56 am

Are we supposed to be happy or grateful that Booth never stopped loving Bones and Hannah was a substitute? We all knew that the minute Booth showed Bones her cell phone picture. Once you set up a couple as such strong OTP, there’s no suspense once it gets to year 6. The only thing this proposal did was confirm everyone’s criticism that Booth is a stubborn, “my way or the high way” kind of guy in relationships. Which might be interesting if the producers and writers hadn’t blamed only Bones all season long. Like someone said, what a waste of time and effort.

63. Vee on February 11th, 2011 9:27 am

You all are wonderful! I love reading these comments. I was distressed at the tone in HH interview where he sounds kind of dismissive of “superfans”. He did not seem to project that attitude when the series was young. I have to hold onto the fact that he has a projected story line for the whole thing and it just will be adjusted to what time frame they have to work with on the network, and that he has enough experience to know what ultimately works. It is necessary to show Booth regressing/dissolving/imploding and Brennan resolutely sticking by him before they can build them up as more than just partners. Brennan was already presented as fractured and inflexible, but they had her break through first. I dont think the intense ridiculing of the Booth character or even the Hannah character is worth the effort. Even episodes I disliked, when I watch them later on and could watch them back to back I saw things differently and caught bits that made no sense (plot wise) until watching all the episodes. I think the promos they use are just mean, but I don’t know who selects those. I still think DB and ED are really goodlooking people and Booth would still be the kind of guy with all the girls throwing themselves at him for any crumb. The query about his mother was a good one too – he tried to be the good son, the good brother, the best boyfriend and each time was left in the dust, though not for the reasons he projects. Interesting character. He knows Brennan is the one. She knows Booth is the one. They just both want it too much to mess it up and don’t want to risk the usual pattern of their life on a relationship that is so critical to them. I knew Brennan wouldnt get up from the bar and would have been upset if she had. I think they need to bring in one of the other characters to say the unsaid…. maybe they will do it themselves in the elevator epi? Like angela and Hodgins in jail?
I hope they reconstitute the rest of the ensemble and get Angela back to her sexy witty self (saw a little bit of that smile and zest in this epi). Another point – for those of us who watch the show and remember the set up for Booth’s crappy apt and low budget (although a $1200 suit in a 2005 epi w Epps on death row?), that is supposed to make the point of how out of character purchsing such a gaudy ring was – trying to prove something. Misunderstanding true love as equalling the trappings and what people expect means true love; that intangibles like true intimacy, trust and friendship create a love bond that cannot be verbalized sometimes, but you just know there is a piece missing if it is not there. I am looking forward to the season as a whole, just not enjoying the stuttering timeline to get there.

64. Barbra on February 11th, 2011 10:55 am

Oh HH, Booth isn’t the perfect guy. Put more women on the writing team for god’s sake.

65. FL on February 11th, 2011 1:53 pm

I wonder whether Booth’s middle-agd crisis reflects that of the largely male writing team. Way to attract a younger audience, HH!

Seriously now: Booth and Brennan were young once, way back at the beginning of season 1. They’re old now and careworn and kind of… indifferent. I guess that’s what six years of will-they-won’t-they does to you.

No more ‘shipping of OTPs for me. And definitely no interest in watching anything Hanson creates. There’s an old saying about how power corrupts, and how absolute power corrupts absolutely. By asserting his unlimited authorial control over the show, and ignoring the criticisms of the (in my experience) very sane, very patient and very invested fan base, the writers have destroyed all credibility for this show.

So… where do Booth and Brennan go from here? I don’t know. I’m more than likely not to be there to watch. I would like to thanks Marisa for her effort, which is greatly appreciated.

66. HabsGirl on February 11th, 2011 2:55 pm

I have to be honest, I didn’t mind Hannah. Okay, I didn’t like some of her self-centred lines and how long the SL was dragged out, but I didn’t mind her as a person or what she brought to the show. I think ultimately her character helped both Booth and Brennan understand what they mean to each other.

That said, I am glad she is gone because I have missed the banter between the squints and between Booth and Brennan. What am I hoping for in future episodes? I am hoping some of the pain that the main characters are feeling is dealt with with a verbal joust and that we see some more light episodes with some comedy. I also miss seeing Booth at the lab. Is this intentional?

I thought both DB and ED have done great jobs this season, with their more dramatic roles.

67. JO on February 11th, 2011 3:15 pm

Adding to the kudos for Marisa. She made the effort to ask pointed questions.

I did mind Hannah. The actress, the story, the purpose- none of that worked for me. I understood the intent on paper, but it didn’t work. I maintain we learned nothing new about BB, except maybe highlighting Booth’s problems even more clearly. But BB was always the endgame, and seasons 1~5 were enough to convince me.

It’s just ‘what might have been,’ but what might have been interesting-

1) Make Hannah Bones’ opposite, i.e. Booth’s perfect match on paper. This means make her more realistic, not Brennan-light. Especially if they stuck with the actress, make her a sports writer so that she and Booth could share real jokes. Then make her the settling down kinda girl who shares Booth’s old fashioned values. Real threat = real drama.

2) Make Hannah a bad girlfriend. I villains are easier to write and play. How many of us have seen good friends enter into unwise relationships on the rebound. It would have been good drama to see Mr. Honorable try to deal with a real mistake instead of this ‘we were great, but just not right for each other’ cop-out.

Does anyone have ideas? It’s useless, but more fun than circling the drain on BB’s relationship analysis.

68. Bella on February 11th, 2011 3:37 pm

@FL I think you’ve put the finger on it. I don’t WANT to be nasty about someone who created a show I care so much about, but he seems to have gotten more and more arrogant with his power over the fans.

69. Chrissy on February 11th, 2011 11:05 pm

@ Liz, I completely agree with your comparison to Justin on Parks & Rec! She “hoped they had more time before they got to that point”? Why so you could waste more of his time? He was an idiot to propose in the first place but I didn’t like Hannah from the start and I don’t like her any better now.

And seriously, did HH have to pop gum into his mouth in the middle of the conversation like that? If you’ve seen any more of those clips earlier he’s just chomping away throughout and it’s very distracting!

70. Grant on February 12th, 2011 5:43 am

Jesus Christ people. I’m sick of some of you being so negative. Who died and made some of you the kings/queens of all television, where you and only you get to decide what should be on a show? No one. if you don’t like where the story is going, STOP WATCHING. STOP POSTING ON HERE. GET OVER IT.

I’ve invested far too much time into this show to stop now, and sure, I didn’t like that Booth was with Hannah, and am glad they broke up, but I’m not going to come here and cry about the writing of the show. That isn’t my job. Its none of yours either. Ratings for the show are up, there are 70 comments on a random fan site, and you people, even though you claim to hate the direction the show is going, are still watching. Obviously someone is doing something right.

I DONT CARE ABOUT ANY OF YOUR HATE FOR THE SHOW AND HH AND THE WRITERS, AS LONG AS THE RATINGS ARE GOOD ENOUGH THAT IT GETS RENEWED. There, I said it. Now, on to the episode.

“What is it with women, who just don’t want what I’m offering here?” Three women have rejected Booth. I don’t think he needs to reevaluate himself, or get therapy, or anything of that nature. It is just three women. He just needs to choose better women (or just go ahead and choose Bones now that she has come to terms with her feelings).

Booth is really just mad. We as men are unable to change. I, like Booth, am a marrying type. I can’t be happy just living in the moment. it think to the future. That is why I’m currently single, because I want to build a life, and not live life like there is no tomorrow.

DB is an amazing actor. I really felt where he was coming from tonight. I’ll admit. I’ve been almost exactly where he is coming from. Felt that same pain. His portrayal was perfect. I remember why I love this show. Screw those of you who think you could make the show better, because it doesn’t live up to some standard you set years ago. Time changes things. The show will be fine without you watching. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I started watching Bones when the series first appeared on Netflix because I was told by a sibling I would enjoy the show. I actually tuned in to Fox during season 5 and have since watched during season 6. I have never followed a television series before.

Since then I have reviewed seasons 1-4 on Netflix and purchased season 5.
I will not be buying or watching season six again, only a few episodes are noteworthy for me.

I want those nights I spent racing home this year to watch “my program” and not letting the kids come into the room so I could hang on every word. I did think “the proposal” was executed well. However, the rest of the season besides Brennan’s revelation was fodder as far as the chemistry of the show.

I’m breaking up with you Bones, I don’t hold you on a pedestal anymore. The way Booth feels about women right now is how I feel about Bones.

76. CJ on February 12th, 2011 4:23 pm

I get a little tired of Booth being called narrow-minded and uncompromising simply because he wants his relationships to end with a permanent commitment. There is nothing wrong with wanting to find a lifelong partner or wanting to get married. Call it old-fashioned or whatever you like, but I find it admirable that a male character is being portrayed as someone who isn’t just looking for a “good time.” I appreciate that Brennan has always been honest with him. How incredibly selfish of Hannah though to expect Booth to just “pretend it never happened” even though she’s basically just told him he’s temporary. Of course he ended it. She pretty much told him she’s never going to give him the permanent commitment he is looking for. Why would he bother dragging it out when it’s going to end eventually anyway and just prolong the inevitable hearbreak? I completely understand Booth’s mood in the last scene. His flaw is that he is not being careful enough to make sure the people he’s getting involved with are looking for the same lifelong commitment he seeks before he falls for them. While he didn’t exactly plan on falling in love with Brennan, he should have been more careful before getting involved with Hannah. But at the point Booth is at in his life, he likely feels he’s running out of time. I’m pretty certain now after this experience that Booth is going to guard his heart very carefully and Brennan, who I believe is now more open to the idea of a permanent relationship, is going to have her work cut out for her in convincing Booth of that.

77. AmandaFriend on February 12th, 2011 4:31 pm

Booth hasn’t been the same since the rejection from Brennan. He’s not the same man because of that and then his attempt to salve his wounds with Hannah failed miserably.

Hannah’s presence added to the awkwardness of this season and the relationship between Brennan and Booth. If Hannah’s presence/departure gives us moments in which B&B are honest with one another as in the bar scene between Booth and Brennan, fine. I want to know what is going to happen to the characters. I hope to see more of Booth’s own breakdown because he’s just as responsible for the gulf between himself and Brennan.

The relationship is messy, but it’s always had an underlying messiness to it because of the abuse both suffered in their childhood. I want to see that play out because if they can overcome some of the crap from their past it gives hope to others. These are messy human beings and sometimes they make bad, bad decisions that get them hurt or hurt others. We don’t know what transpired between Booth and Rebecca, but we know that it was messy because the first time we learn about Parker, he’s practically begging to her to see his son (and there’s the line about “you don’t have to see me” suggesting they’re really on the outs with one another.) We know Cam warned Brennan that Booth didn’t talk to her for 6 months when she said something to him about Jared. Booth didn’t contact Brennan for the 7 months they were apart. Cpl. Parker tells us that Booth sees something and goes after it.

Bring it on, show. I know this is messy, but did anybody really think they could sustain the show with eyesex alone? I like that they humanize the characters. I like that sometimes I see a whole new side of the characters. The chemistry is off because the “center” is off. But it gives me hope. It shows me that show is taking risks. People evolve and grow and the characters can’t be the same after 6 seasons. Like I said, bring it on.

78. Lol on February 12th, 2011 4:54 pm

Season 6 is so boring. They could have play with jealousy, or give some doubt to Booth before proposing but… no. Boring !!! What a pitty to destroy such a nice show.

79. Nik on February 12th, 2011 5:25 pm

I’m glad she’s vacated the building…….but I think HH left an opening for her to come back with the Terminator reference of “I’ll be back”……..THUD….the sound of my head hitting the computer.
And what’s with tossing the ring in the river?? DC is NOT Reno!! And what happend to Booth’s use of money…..”I sue my money to buy food and rent”….the ring must of have at least a carat….he could have put it on EBay and gotten some of his money back….geez.
A better ending would have been if he shoved the ring in his pocket, turned and blew Hannah a kiss with his middle finger and gone to the shooting range! Man up, Booth!

80. Liz on February 12th, 2011 6:07 pm

@CJ “I get a little tired of Booth being called narrow-minded and uncompromising simply because he wants his relationships to end with a permanent commitment.”

That’s not why people have been calling Booth uncompromising. In this episode, it was about romance, yes. But NOT because he wanted marriage. Because he didn’t think about meeting Hannah’s point of view halfway. I don’t like her, but who’s to say she wasn’t in for a permanent or long term commitment? She did move and change her career focus for him.
Then there’s the long term critique, which again is NOT because Booth is conservative. It’s because he’s judgmental about others who don’t follow his views about patriotism, sexual morales, etc.

@Nik, thank you! That ring toss bugs me no end, in part because it gives me traumatic Titanic flashbacks. And made the scene comical.

81. Steph on February 12th, 2011 7:42 pm

For all the people calling Booth pathetic and a loser Bones is a show above your mental capacity because complex characters that don’t fit tidily into a box aren’t your speed.

Watch Jersey Shore but even that might be above your head.

Barney is at your mental level.,

82. sue p on February 12th, 2011 8:15 pm

Without HH and SN telling me what they were trying to achieve with Hannah I would have no clue. KW’s poor acting, the lack chemistry between Booth and Hannah, and the way they have written these first episodes gave been a disappointment and failed to get the story across as HH seems to have intended. They must have tin ears if they truly believe the spin they are putting on this whole storyline. Another SO between them would not be wise. Fans are getting tired of the back and forth and if they keep allowing their attempts to prolong the inevitable then they may end up being the only ones who care.

83. Lynn on February 12th, 2011 9:27 pm

I feel that ring will come into play again. Perhaps Bones gets it fished out after Han. told her Booth threw it way and gives it back to him when “the time is right.” What do you think?

84. CJ on February 12th, 2011 10:09 pm

@Liz – As someone who feels much the same way about marriage as Booth the character does, Hannah said she wasn’t in for a permanent commitment when she said “I’m not the marrying kind.” Booth is the marrying kind and that is what he ultimately wants. Why at that point would he “meet her halfway”? There is no halfway when one person is looking for a permanent commitment (which is defined for Booth as marriage) and the other is not. Clearly they were not compatible. Best for Booth to get out now before he falls even harder for her and then she decides she’s had enough and moves on. When someone can’t or won’t make the marriage commitment it’s because they still want to leave the door open just in case they decide they want out. For Booth, it means forever. I wish there were more people as committed to their commitments as Booth.

85. Daft Punk Punch on February 12th, 2011 10:48 pm

So you’re saying there’s no need for Booth to compromise in relationships, but you don’t understand why he’s called uncompromising?
🙂 🙂 🙂

86. BetterRatings on February 13th, 2011 2:30 am

If die-hard fans want to keep enjoying the show it has to also appeal to first time viewers who don’t know the B&B love story. No ratings, no show. Then we have to go back to the filthy, brainless, worthless shows that the networks keep producing.

87. carole on February 13th, 2011 7:22 am

ITS a few days later AND i think booth wanted a NO to marry me/but a man could of find a way to of got her out of his apartment other then marry me/ she right remembered the dinner she plainly told him she didnt want be stepmom/for me for this show to be good again bones needs to tell someone what she really thought about hannah and I still feel BONES should not of stayed at the bar with him/maybe why dont you go to church.

88. Tiffany on February 13th, 2011 9:18 am

@CJ: All marriage means, is that if you want out, you have to do paperwork to do so. Unfortunately these days, marriage is not a promise of a lifelong connection. Booth is the marrying kind, Hannah isn’t. She knew that Booth wanted marriage, so he either knew that she didn’t and asked anyway, or didn’t know her at all. If Booth loved Hannah as much as he said he did, why couldn’t he do for her what Hodgins did for Angela when she didn’t want to get married? Hodgins said that he loves her for who she is, marriage or not. That kind of UNCONDITIONAL love is what convinced Angela to marry him. Booth wanted a wife more than he wanted Hannah. So I will repeat, Booth is uncompromising in the way he approaches relationships. If he is so concerned with having a wife, then he should stop falling for women who don’t want what he does.

89. Minority on February 13th, 2011 10:04 am

@Tiffany, It doesn’t even have to be unconditional. If Booth made an effort to understand Hannah (or any partner) better and they didn’t work out, I would not call him uncompromising. Shouldn’t the commitment to understanding and cooperating with your partner come before commitment to marriage? I can’t believe I have to defend Hannah, but strictly from what we saw, she was more honest and compromising in that relationship. (Which is probably what HH meant about integrity, even though I agree more with @Liz’s comparison to Justin. Go Parks&Rec!)

Also, I agree that Booth is a flawed but HONORABLE man. But he already knows relationships are not black and white. He made googly eyes with Bones while he was involved with with his lawyer gf, Rebecca, Cam. And according to the 100th, he fell in love with Bones at first sight so these were not 100% innocent googly eyes. He also didn’t tell Hannah the whole truth about himself, continued to send mixed messages to Bones, and maybe sabotaged his relationship. So he wasn’t committed to Hannah either. NONE of this judging him. But with all this, he should know better than to simplify relationships into black/white, right/wrong, committed/not, marriage/breakup.

90. Minority on February 13th, 2011 10:18 am

@Carole, “i think booth wanted a NO to marry me/but a man could of find a way to of got her out of his apartment other then marry me”

If you are saying Booth actually expected and wanted the rejection to end things with Hannah, I think it’s a fairly accepted interpretation. But I also agree he should have found a better way to get her out of the apartment, I think someone said passive-aggressive. Which is the way he’s been all season long.

91. CJ on February 13th, 2011 2:21 pm

If Hannah had said “I’m not ready for marriage right now” and Booth had been adamant about it, then I’d have a problem with him. But she basically said she was never going to marry him. So in other words, I’m here to enjoy the sex and your companionship until I’m tired of it and then I’m moving on. Period. You’re darn right Booth was uncompromising about that and good for him. Booth’s biggest problem is that he’s going after the wrong women. He needs to make sure the woman has similar values to him before he gets so involved or it’s always going to end badly. But, no, on the marriage issue I still don’t think he needs to compromise. Just because we live in a society that has devalued marriage does not make him wrong for not going along with it. And we will just have to agree to disagree on that point.

92. Rachel on February 13th, 2011 2:57 pm

“But she basically said she was never going to marry him.”
— She never said that. We don’t know that. He did not hear the answer he wanted and heard only NO. Just like you’re doing. If she didn’t want marriage right now, the only other option must be she’s not committed.

“he should know better than to simplify relationships into black/white”
Agree, and yet he did.

You don’t need to “devalue marriage” or even change your mind about it to see that there’s no black or white. I certainly don’t assume people who are calling Booth stubborn don’t believe in marriage. It doesn’t make sense.

93. bbinthewaiting on February 13th, 2011 3:39 pm

I agree Booth was too stubborn but felt sorry for him because DB looked so sad and I can relate to wanting to be married to the One forever. But now I changed my mind because of what Minority and other people have said. I was too busy feeling sorry for DB, I forgot. He wasn’t honest or committed to her when he proposed. He just did it because he was so desperate. You don’t do that if you really respect marriage. I mean, if Hannah accepted, Booth would be the jerk. He’s lucky she said no.

94. CJ on February 13th, 2011 5:12 pm

“If she didn’t want marriage right now, the only other option must be she’s not committed.”

The problem with the above statement is that “I don’t want marriage right now” is NOT what she said. If she’d said that, it would be completely understandable and Booth should have backed off and given her a chance. But “I’m not the marrying kind” – there is no “not right now but maybe someday” in that statement. None whatsoever. That indicates a closed door to the idea of marriage. No indication that she would ever consider it or that she might change her mind later. She did not indicate that she might EVER be willing to consider it. There are some people who feel that way and that’s fine. But it’s not fine for Booth because he wants something more. When someone indicates that what you want is not something they are willing to consider, it’s time to move on. It’s interesting that Booth is the one being called stubborn when Hannah’s opinion of “I’m not the marrying kind” is just as stubborn on the other side. If she’d even left the door open to indicate that she might consider it someday, maybe things would have turned out differently. But when one person believes strongly in marriage and the other person indicates that they are “not the marrying kind” they are just not compatible. For Booth to continue the relationship at that point would just be setting himself up for future heartbreak. I can’t find it in my heart to blame him for ending it before it gets worse. And the fact that she said she thought it would be while longer before this came up shows that she knew at some point she was going to have to turn down his proposal, but she was hoping to have a little more “fun” first. She is just as adamant in her “I’m not the marrying kind” opinion as Booth is. Interesting that he is the one being blamed for being inflexible.

95. Sally on February 13th, 2011 5:41 pm

I’m mad about the whole Hannah thing. NOT because she came between Booth and Brennan, but because I was looking forward to a character that I was going to supposedly come to love. I wanted to love her, I really did. It’s just that they made her so vapid and obnoxious! I mean, the sunglasses thing??? Come on. And telling Brennan that she should move on, when really *she* (Hannah) knew that she and Booth wanted different things from the beginning, but still stayed with him…for what??? I do not love that person. I don’t even like that person. Sorry, HH and SN, better luck next time.

96. Sally on February 13th, 2011 5:51 pm

Oh, and @grant…totally agree with you 100%, EXCEPT for what I said above. The events of the episode made sense to me for the most part, and DB was amazing. I just feel cheated because I wanted another character to love!!!

97. andrea on February 13th, 2011 7:24 pm

I just don’t agree that Bones is ruined like some of the posters are saying. Yes it’s a different show than it was six years ago.. But many shows that have been on the air for a long time aren’t the same show that originally a’ired. That’s a given. I think the Hannah arc was a misstep, but I do think that Bones can get on the right track again. The same showrunners and writers that created the characters we love are still writing for Bones and we know that they have given us many great eps in the past. There have been several strong episodes this season and many more are scheduled to air. The sniper arc, the body farm, the much anticipated blackout/elevator scene, to name few that I personally am looking forward to. I also think that there’s plenty of chemistry between Booth and Brennan, and that they have some emotional issues that they certainly need to address-which should make for some interesting back stories. They will rebuild their partnership/friendship in the episodes to come. There will again be more of a balance between them-have faith people!

I think too many fans are over analyzing the characters and are unhappy with changes or inconsistencies that have happened to characters ie. Booth and Brennan. Agreed, Brennan now is being portrayed a lot differently than she was and not everyone is happy with changes to Brennan’s or Booth’s characters-but that’s the way it goes. I am not going to get all bent out of shape if a program-whether it be my favorite program or not-doesn’t unfold the way that I want it to. I know that I have no control over the story. I can only either choose to watch it or not. I choose to stand by Bones and watch and see what happens. That’s all…

98. andrea on February 13th, 2011 7:26 pm

Excuse the typos. Sometimes my computer has a mind of its own!

99. Rachel on February 13th, 2011 8:29 pm

Marisa, you’ve got balls! (Or steel ovaries.)

100. Minority on February 13th, 2011 8:56 pm

@andrea, long running, respectable shows go through natural transitions but nothing as jarring as Bones. I catch reruns of House and Law and Order franchises on tv, and the characters are still the characters. Even comedies like The Office and 30 Rock let the characters change- everyone’s at different places in their lives, but retain their characteristics while going through believable transformations. Early Bones was a mature, sophisticated woman while I’ve actually seen a critic question later Bones as having Aspergers. Bones change is not natural. If the writers wanted to tell different stories about different characters, they should have switched up agents and scientists the way L&O switches up cops and ADAs. But they wanted to milk the BB chemistry, so I say they have to deal with the criticisms.

Besides which, the writers are the ones claiming emotional growth. They are arguing that they are keeping BB apart for valid, character related reasons. That makes character continuity fair game in watching the show.

If you can dissociate, it probably helps your sanity 🙂 but I don’t think it’s a fair request to make of all fans, especially the ones who have watched the seasons progressively. As for why watch and comment? It’s not my place to say. Maybe some combination of hope, venting, last thread of interest, etc.

101. Kedra on February 13th, 2011 10:40 pm

I understand, from a producer’s point, that to give in and write Booth and Bones finally getting together might take some of the suspense and passion out of the storyline, might shorten the seasons, but, if a season is going to be all frustration and wanting to bang character’s heads together and snuff out certain characters myself, then it’s just agony for the viewers so that everyone involved with the show makes more money.

When Gordon Gordon told Booth to man up, that he has to be able to protect Bones, and to take her to the qualifying test, and he passed and gave her a look, that was soooo touching to me, because it was his desire and love for Bones and the need to be her protector that had him coming through.

Whenever Booth protects Bones, or vice versa, their partnership, their willingness to lay their lives on the line for each other, their humor with him teaching her how to feel and hide less behind a facade, THAT is hot. I don’t care WHAT storyline you put out there, but if there is action, and they are coming through for each other and their team members at the museum, I love it. But adding in characters to put romantic angst between the two is getting old, and it does diminish some of the tension, the “couple” that Booth and Bones are even if they do not recognize it.

Get back to the action, get back to them realizing what their life would be without each other, and then, hook them up, PLEASE! You cannot tell me that a good writer could not come up with plenty of comical relationship/work scenes once the two do actually get together. The show doesn’t HAVE to end just b/c they finally figure it out.

Enough with the romantic substitutes; build the tension, the relationship, backing each other, the realization again of each other, and then get ON with it already and keep growing with their relationship! (Just sayin’ if they end the show’s run with them getting together on the last episode and leave it like that, there will be viewers’ heads exploding all over the world).

102. Trent on February 13th, 2011 11:12 pm

I’m not going to whine about the plots, as painful as they are to watch it adds a sense of realism to the series, which most hollywood dramas don’t have. As far as I’m concerned Brennan is no consolation prize and after her rejection their friendship was strong enough to overcome it, unlike Hannah’s who caused them to part ways. I’m not going to stop watching and i’m sure the people that will stop watching will have a rather minimal effect on the show’s ratings, so have fun with that…

103. Jen on February 13th, 2011 11:19 pm

Hannah was a good time girl when all Booth wanted was a good time. Booth was an idiot for letting Hannah invade his life in D.C., but I can see why she was more attractive by changing her life for him. I think he read way too much into it. Hannah admitted that she was using him when she said, “I thought we would have more time before we got to this.” And then thinking back to when she found out Brennan had feelings for Booth. (I never could tell if she knew about how Booth felt about Bones.) But why she didn’t walk away then so she wasn’t in the way? She knew it was temporary. WTH? We’re supposed to like her? I disliked her more with every episode including the ones she didn’t have any air time. Her character wasn’t even developed properly. All she was there for was the “good time” she was looking for the night he proposed. I hope Booth wises up and see who truly loves him for the person he is.

The Sully SL never bothered me. Cam bugged me a little bit, but I didn’t like her character then either. Hannah was just plain boring and shallow. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hannah SL was the most unsuccessful of his career. If she makes a reappearance, there are going to be a ton of unhappy fans.

104. jo on February 13th, 2011 11:38 pm

The main reason I’m glad Hannah is gone is because the producers/writers handled the entire SL so poorly. How could you like a character whose presence turned the entire show away from what made it fun to watch in the first place — the interaction of B&B and the rest of the Jeffersonian Team — and made it into a soap opera. Combined with the fact that the nature of her relationships with both Booth and Brennan was so erratic and incongruous — the whole thing has been like watching a train wreck. My main fear is that Hannah wasn’t actually the problem, its that the producers and writers have just lost their touch.

105. Abby on February 14th, 2011 12:31 am

Why haven’t the writers addressed the fact that Booth hasn’t even dealt with his real feelings for Bones. He fell for Hannah but never talked about the fact or dealt with the fact that there was sooo MUCH history with him and Bones. Look how much they have gone through together in the last 5 years! And he was just willing to forget it. Every time they showed him with Hannah, I couldn’t help but get the impression that he was just going through the motions because he was so hurt but he never faced the fact that Hannah was his transition person!!!! I think he picked out the ring for Hannah but in the back of his mind, he knew it would suit Bones better.

106. C M on February 14th, 2011 1:09 am

Heck, the writers still haven’t addressed the coma dream or brain scan yet. Booth never cleared up when or how or even whether he figured out the difference between Dream Brennan and Bones. Fans have been fanwanking Robot Bones as the effect of losing her favorite student Zach, and the show still hasn’t addressed that change either.

I’m ok with all the problems because week by week the show can be fun. I will not, however, buy BS excuses about keeping BB apart. BS just gets on my nerves and makes me lose respect.

Also tired of how happy fans feel free to bash unhappy fans but most of the critical fans go the extra mile to be polite.

107. Elicia on February 14th, 2011 4:23 am

Well I am thankful for this episode. It’s the final push I needed to stop watching that show. Reading the writers/producers’ view on the whole mess they have created just shows me that it is pointless to go on watching. I will stop losing one hour of my life every week and do something more useful.
I’m just glad I have a show like Castle. At least there is a relationship I enjoy watching and their writers/producers have understood how lame it is to toy with fans for so long.

108. Sam on February 14th, 2011 9:51 am

I would have prefered if Hannah and Booth got married, as then it would put this show out of its misery of “will they or won’t they?” Note that the peak ratings were in season 4 when nearly 11 million watched weekly. Now averging 10.1 million, in third place behind OLDER Grey’s Anatomy, people are getting tired of waiting for Booth and Brennan. They would rather watch CASTLE on ABC where in the show’s third season, they are making movement on the realtionship in a smart way – not getting together, but obviously progressing. On BONES, there is never real movement on the relationship as the show puts numerous obsticles in the way. BONES is a mystery show plain and simple, with some romantic tension on the side like any good traditional mystery show has.

109. Sam on February 14th, 2011 9:59 am

ON more thing: Hart Hason does not appear to be listening to the fans too much. Most of the comments are like, “Get on with it already,” but he does not “want to be put to a timeline.” That is okay. Either the relationship goes somewhere by the end of season 6, or you can count me among the lost on Bones. I like David Borenz and Emily Deshnel, but the writing is laboring to keep them apart now. If the show is no longer interesting, I am done – and I am getting close that now as others are posting on here. Time is running out for this show, and I wonder if the show creator even knows it.

110. buffaloluvsboreanaz on February 14th, 2011 1:09 pm

I find it kind of funny how many people say they don’t like Bones on a Bones episode review week after week, but yet they still seem to be coming back to comment on it. I believe that is what Hart would call success! He’s gotten all of us to fully engage in his characters and storylines, love em or hate em. I for one am on the side of “love em”! I’ve enjoyed Hannah probably more than most because I see the idea that people can love more than one person, each love a little different than the last. I see that Booth would internally call Bones the “love of his life”, but yet still be able to say he genuinely loved Hannah as well. Dear people, this DOES actually happen in real life. I don’t think his feelings for Hannah would ever take away from his feelings for Bones, because they are so far removed from the other in terms of emotions. I believe that Booth could actually commit to “being there always” for Bones, even if he was married to someone else, because he could still connect with her as her partner and friend. Why so many people think that a relationship between two people can only be defined in terms of “together or not together” is just beyond me, because the reality of relationships is that they are so much more multi-faceted.

I thought Hannah was quite refreshing…here is a woman who has said very directly what she wanted from day one with the man she was in a relationship with. She didn’t pretend to change for him, or ask him to change for her. She loved him enough to move across the world to spend time with him and get to know him on a more intimate level, but didn’t lead him to believe that she was ready for the ultimate commitment, and certainly didn’t hesitate to clarify for him her intentions when asked. Some might think that she was immature for using the excuse that she’s “not the marrying kind”, but I think it takes guts to say that, and be true to your own emotional limitations. I thought Katherine Winnick did a fantastic job of portraying the type of woman Booth would fall for, independent, confident, ambitious, with just a hint of adventurous to top it off. I know I’m in the minority, at least among those willing to post public comments, but I think there are more than enough people out there NOT commenting on Bones to keep the show going even after the rest of you who continue to complain abandon ship. Keep up the great work Hart, David and Emily, as well as the fantastic cast and crew who consistently turn in great performances with you!

111. Lucky on February 14th, 2011 1:21 pm

The comments are a sign of success. Just like the ratings are a sign of success.
But Hart obviously cares less about the quality of the show or the quality of the discussion. He and SN goad the viewers deliberately so they get lots of complaining posts and call it the sign of engaged viewers. If you look at comments for shows like Mad Men or Lost or Fringe (not the one on GMMR though), fans are even more obsessive, but you can engage the fans in a positive way instead of riling them up. Give the fans better things to think about.
I don’t have to defend my viewing habits, and I watch Bones like junk food, but WORD to whoever said that the BS surrounding this show makes one lose respect.

112. Lucky on February 14th, 2011 1:44 pm

ETA buffaloluvsboreanaz,
Everything and anything can and does happen in real life. I actually agree that you can love more than one person. But the “it happens in real life” varies from person to person and can’t be used as a blanket explanation. It’s about what works on screen, not in various people’s theories about life. If you honestly think the Hannah character worked, I don’t doubt or challenge that. Not would I want to.

113. Ksenija on February 14th, 2011 2:08 pm

Is anyone watching this show for great cases and forensic details, or is it just me?! I’m kinda sick of the whole B&B story because it’s all over the place. Character development is OK to a certain degree. This is getting ridiculous, but I’m not going to stop watching. Forensics is what got me into the show.

114. Daft Punk Punch on February 14th, 2011 2:33 pm

Thank you! I came for the anthropology, academic-law enforcement dynamic, strong female character and witty banter (RIP). I like the show enough to scroll through the comments when I will take any excuse to not study. But the BB romance is just getting old. Hard to believe, the show used to be pretty unique.

115. Nancy on February 14th, 2011 5:18 pm

David Borenanz’s performance from the propsal to the bar scene was Emmy winning caliber. The raw emotion of dispair, heartbreak and self doubt was expressed with every body movement, facial twitch & inflection in his voice. It was so believabel. I’ve watched it 3 times and I’m moved to tears each time.

Season 6 has been a train wreck. It pained me to watch how HH & SN took a fabulous show & ruined it in 12 episodes. Hannah was a big mistake. HH & SN have time to correct their mistake. Admitting their mistake would be a big step in the right direction. They need to stop trying to confince fans that Hannah was wonderful for the show. Saying Hannah has integrity, they need to look integrity up in a dictionary. Hannah has none she is shallow & self centered. “Can’t we go back? I walk up you say how PRETTY I AM we kiss then we have some fun”. Gag! Gag! Booth throwing the ring in the pool showed his frustration and disappointment in another failed attempte at happiness. I believe Booth would do that. He is an old fashion guy who believes in marriage. He’s offered his open heart to 3 women and each time his heart has been broken. He deserves time to revcover from the rejection, give the guy a break. He set limits for Brennan, partners, that’s all he can be right now. Booth will find his happiness with Brennan so please HH & SN it’s time to let it happen. Booth & Brennan together will break the Moonlighting cure ( don’t believe in the Moonlighting curse, the actor’s hated each other and wanted to quit the show, but the TV industrey does.) HH & SN need to have the courage to take that step and make TV history.

I used be a huge fan of the show because the cases were interesting, the character development was fantastic, and character dynamic was genuine. I went from recruiting my friends for Bones viewing party to hardly caring whether the show is still on air.

The Hannah plot line was a huge mistake. The motivations behind it were absolutely not inspired, and the execution was even more insipid. With Hannah’s character forming as a result of such one-dimensional motivations, it is unsurprising that the character had no heart. Whether Kathryn Winnick is a good person or friends with the Bones cast is irrelevant. The show and the Bones characters couldn’t sell Hannah because there was zero substance behind her character. I suppose it is Hanson’s show, and he can do whatever he wants with it, but I wish he had more respect for the opinions of fans who have stuck by the show for six years instead of writing them off every time they disagree with the direction he has taken the show in.

Yes, Hanson, I’m sure there are viewers who don’t hate Hannah, or even thought the detour the show took with her in it was necessary, but I can guarantee that those are more recent fans and not those who have been around from the beginning.

So I guess the question is, is your definition of success just ratings (because new viewer may continue to watch passively no matter what) or is it artistic integrity and staying true to a show and characters you have grown with for years? If this, where we are now, is how you saw Booth and Bones growing as people six years ago when you first started to write the show, then maybe you’re right, and us fans have got it completely wrong from the beginning. Putting your ego aside for a second, if you still feel as strongly about your characters this season as you did when writing season 1, then disregard what I say, but if you have any doubts about the sincerity of the characters’ current direction, then own up to it.

Gimmicks can only ever get you so far; if that is what you are depending on, then please stop being lazy and complacent. Yes, genuine writing, veering off the beaten path is scary, and can go wrong, but you have to trust that if you stay true to the characters, fans will stick by you. Bring in heart.

Wow, I just caught up.
DB has come such a long way since Buffy, and it’s really amazing that I was so moved by the last scene after rudely laughing when he threw the ring into the pond. I think the last scene was a much needed moment of honesty between the partners, but my Booth sympathy has waned too much and it’s going to need more than one good scene. I didn’t even need to read all the explanations, that I all agree with, I already was sympathetic to Booth. But it’s also really immature to focus on just his own mixed up feelings and hurts and injustices. And letting those emotions guide you? That’s what teenagers do. He’s been a jerk to Brennan all season long, and that doesn’t change just because he was hurt inside. He should just have been honest from the start. And he was an even bigger jerk to Hannah if you think about it. What kind of a man proposes when he’s all mixed up and still sending mixed signals to other women? Well, lots of men, but we don’t run to their defense. We tell our girlfriends he’s a jerk.

I love Bones, but I do think BB has taken over the whole show lately, and not in a good way. I used to be really active in an older forum, and we used to discuss almost everything even though BB were of course the most popular topic. These longer comments are so focused on explaining Booth’s psychology that they sort of ignore the show as a whole, and sort of select scenes that fit into 10 page essays about Booth’s psychology. I’m not sure I’m explaining it right. But it’s like the Booth character analysis comes first, and the show just adds to that. Instead of the usual way of watching the show and reacting. So it’s like the effect of the show is secondary to the fan theories. That’s just what I think.

I, too, am so disappointed in the direction this show has taken. I won’t point out why, since most of you already have articulated the reasons quite brilliantly. I am very tired of HH’s arrogance, but also of David Boreanaz’s arrogance. In several interviews he has said that he is adamantly opposed to Booth and Brennan getting together because he is afraid of the “Moonlighting” effect or the “Sam and Diane” effect from Cheers. It is due largely to his input that the two have not gotten together. In addition, he has stated that he did not like filming the lab scenes, and once he became an executive producer, most of his lab scenes stopped and we lost the camaraderie between Booth and the team, which has been a shame. The writing has gotten so bad that I thought they had hired new writers for the show, but no, they’re the same ones! I used to love the mysteries, but now I usually know who the killer is from the beginning. It’s no longer on my top 5 shows to TIVO. What a shame.

@BCLV, You are brave. Apparently, no one is allowed to criticize DB or Booth without being called a Hater. I once ventured to suggest that in this show, the male preens more than the female, and the outcry and personal attacks were pretty fantastic. And all I meant was that it’s usually the reverse, we see more female primping on tv. It was an observation about the show, not a character attack.

I don’t hate DB. I don’t hate Booth. I hate the amateur Psych evaluations for Booth’s inner turmoil.

I really hope the rest of the season and show will not be about Brennan teaching Booth back his own lessons about life, love, sex etc, like she is already doing when a situation hits home too close, but about Brennan teaching him her own lessons from a rational POV, from her own personal experiences and as an anthropologist who got immersed in several cultures. I find Booth quite irritating and arrogant now everytime she expresses what anthropology has to say, a science based on evidence, data etc and not just gut feelings, one’s upbringing, and hopes etc, which Booth himself once recognized can cloud our perceptions at the end of headless witch in the woods. Hopefully at the end they will find a good balance between brain and heart, reason and emotions. Booth helped Brennan with her heart, it’s time she helps him with his brain.

Ok here´s the deal: I love this show. The characters are fantastic (except for the occasionally annoying interns- not all of them), i love how they all have their own way of dealing with their situations. I also love the way they all handle their jobs in a separate manner while still being so passionate about it. If they changed any of the characters at this point (not including the interns) i would be quite disappointed to be honest, they add that little something to the show. Just something i wanted to mention.
About Booth and Brennan, i along with most of the fans as i am sure, have wanted B and B to be together since the begining of the show and i still do the only problem is that if they were to be together there are several things that i imagine could happen:
1) If the show were to continue for several more seasons the odds are B and B wont be together for all the seasons to come (just wouldn´t work).
2) One of the million and most important reason why i watch the show is because of the tension between B and B that is very entertaining to watch, and if they get together i have a feeling it would loose a little touch and excitement.
3) Could anyone really see this happening? History has told us that when it comes to shows like these, the main characters give their relationship a shot and it almost never works out.
All in all, i think it would be better to keep us wanting more; to make us want to watch the showing hoping yet knowing that B and B will never be together.
P.S. I have to say this. I love how Brennan knows everything and deals with logic that you can´t argue. Her character just blows me away and leaves me in shock every episode. I dream of knowing as much as she does. Note: that doesnt mean i want to be her. Big difference.

please comment on this, im interesting in knowing what you think. I rarely do this but being such a fan of the show i just had to.

Brennan didn’t reject him because she didn’t want him but because she was afraid.Even when she saw him with Hannah,it didn’t make that fear disappear,.It was the life of a dead woman that reminded her hers, that shook things up for her and made her realize and confess her feelings. But Booth did reject her out of ego.Even though he was with Hannah there was many scenes where he looks at Brennan and say things showing clearly that she was still, the one he loved the most.• But he screwed up.He knew he had the choice, that Brennan was an option now that she told him how she felt,he had the time to think and figure out how he felt about both of them and he chose to ask Hannah to marry him just because he wants to prove that he could get married, instead of following his heart and go for Brennan. Before his talk with Sweet he didn’t even consider marrying Hannah. And it was his ego that got hurt when Hannah refused to marry him. That’s why he was so angry. It reminded him of Brennan’s rejection. No one claims he didn’t love Hannah or care about her,but it was nothing even remotly close to the way he felt about Brennan. Now, I was hoping Hannah would be back for an episode before Brennan and Booth had sex,try to get Booth back and he chooses Brennan. Then Booth and Brennan could have hooked up.But not so fast after his break up with Hannah. I was angry at booth. He tells her one time how he feels, she rejects him out of fear and instead of fighting for her he just decides to move on.It’s not like he told her before and she rejected him and he tried again.No.One shot and he gave up.Not sure about what it says about his love for Brennan

I didn’t like the Hannah series because it took time away from interactions between Booth and Brennan and I didn’t like how Booth treated Brennan. He acted impatient with her all the time. Can someone tell me why Booth proposed to Hannah after practically telling Brennan that he still loves her???? He was lying to someone and that isn’t who I thought Booth was.
