GREY’S ANATOMY Recap: ‘This Is How We Do It’

March 25, 2011 by

Okay, let’s be honest – this week’s episode of GREY’S ANATOMY could have been the best of the entire series and it wouldn’t matter, because really we’re all waiting for next week’s inevitably awesome musical episode. Still, there was some good stuff this week that we shouldn’t ignore, including a fantastic performance by Loretta Devine, alongside some juicy plotlines for many of our favorite surgeons.

For example, Lexie and Jackson are still going strong, and by going strong I mean dropping everything to get it on whenever they see each other no matter how inappropriate the location. Poor April keeps walking in on them, much to her annoyance since she still doesn’t have a sex life.  She’s been on a few dates with Dr. Stark at this point, somehow managing to bring out his softer side even though he’s still a giant ass to everyone else. Things are going well until he invites her over to his place to watch a movie. If it were anyone besides Stark, this would be pretty standard code for “the sex date”, but in Stark’s case I can’t tell. Anyway all of the other residents are pretty certain that’s what it means, and their teasing causes April to freak out and cancel the date. Stark walks away sadly, and I almost feel bad for him before I remember that he’s been completely evil up until this point. No sympathy for you, Starky.

Stark isn’t the only one to get rejected this week. Poor adorable Henry tells Teddy (with the help of some great pain meds) that since they’re married and all, they should really, you know, go on a date sometime. Teddy turns him down cold, saying it would make a great story but she’s not feelin’ it. I’m hoping she’s just burying her feelings to prove Chief Webber wrong, since he’s already pretty reluctant to have her treat Henry at all.

In other sad news, Adele is back and still not doing so well. Chief Webber desperately tries to get Derek to put her in the Alzheimer’s trial, even though both the trial and the waiting list are full. But when one of the patients drops out of the trial, Derek reluctantly agrees to test Adele to see if she even qualifies. She doesn’t – by one point. Loretta Devine absolutely nailsthis scene, giving a brilliant performance as the reality sets in for Adele that there is something wrong with her, and she may not have much longer to enjoy the happiness that she and Richard have finally found in their relationship. It’s heartbreaking to watch.

On the other end of the spectrum we have Callie, who is about as happy as a person can be. Despite all the drama surrounding her pregnancy, she’s super excited to become a mom, and throws a kick-ass baby shower to celebrate. Arizona’s not quite as enthusiastic. She’s excited about the baby, but still feeling a little left out, and it doesn’t help that Callie and Mark have such a tight friendship. But at the end of the episode, she realizes what will make her feel better, and in a touching moment she asks Callie to marry her. CRASH. That would be the completely predictable car crash that happens right after the proposal, setting us up for next week’s Callie-centric musical episode. (From the previews, it’ll be more like Ghost Callie or Astral Projection Callie, or whatever you call it when the person is potentially dying on a table.)

A few other tidbits from this week… Lucy and Alex finally become an item after Meredith assures Lucy that there’s a good guy underneath Alex’s rough exterior. Also Bailey and cute nurse Eli are still happily hooking up, despite an argument about how to handle a patient. And finally, Chief Webber decides to delegate the task of picking the next chief resident to…Owen? Seriously? You’re delegating the decision to someone who is MARRIED to one of the candidates? Come on, Webber, you couldn’t think of anyone else to do it? Worst decision ever, dude. Now Cristina’s pissed because Owen can’t choose her without it looking like favoritism. Seriously, with the exception of Derek, ANYBODY would have been a better person to make this decision. Here is where I sigh and shake my head, and then get over it pretty quickly because I remember that OMG yay it’s the musical episode next week! And it’s pretty impossible not to feel SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED when I think about that!

What did you guys think about this week’s episode? How do you feel about April and Stark now that we’ve gotten a glimpse of them together? What about Lucy and Alex? Any predictions on what will happen to Callie? Let us know in the comments section!

They may as well rename the show ‘ Calizona’s Anatomy’. Talk about losing a sense of balance……..
