Elsewhere, Sean and Vicky are on the verge of tracking down Dempsey (guest star Hal Holbrook), but it may be exactly what he was anticipating.

When Josh Peyton has a mental breakdown and is charged with breaking and entering, and assault, Harry comes to his defense. Meanwhile Adam and Rachel reluctantly team up to represent death row inmate Brian Jones (Quintin Aaron) only to realize that his appeal may be jeopardized by a clerical error. Back at the shoe store, Jenna and Malcolm’s relationship is tested when they have their first argument. Camryn Manheim, Jordana Spiro, Christopher McDonald and Tracy Thoms also guest star.

Meanwhile, a competitor’s offer to buy Max’s business may leave Neil out of a job; Kate contemplates an offer to go to Japan to teach English, and neither parent is ready to tell her sayonara.
