BONES Debate: Should Booth and Brennan Get Together This Season?

April 28, 2011 by

BONES fans, we’re going to do something a little different today.

Tonight’s brand new episode, “The Pinocchio in the Planter,” has the Jeffersonian team diving into the world of radical honesty — and that inspired our fabulous BONES recapper Sarah Curtis and I to brave that world and debate our real feelings about the possibility of Booth and Brennan getting together this season. (If you’d like some teases on the actual episode, check out what Michaela Conlin told Give Me My Remote earlier this month.)

Before we start our debate, a few things of note to prevent panic/frustration. First of all, what we’re saying below has absolutely nothing to do with any spoilers for the rest of the season. This isn’t about what WILL happen, this is about what we WANT to happen. And for the purpose of this discussion, while Brennan and Booth ARE together in many ways, together equals the intention or actions of being in a romantic relationship. No more defending their relationship as just partners. There would need to be an acknowledgment that there is more than friendship between them and they are going to be acting on it in the immediate future. It doesn’t mean they need to jump into bed, but together = no more significant others, they are committed to each other in whatever way they deem appropriate given their unconventional courtship thus far.

All good? Let’s get to our debate…

Marisa Roffman: One of the biggest questions of BONES has always been when is the right time to get Booth and Brennan together. You think that time is now, correct?

Sarah Curtis: I do think it’s time. At this point in the season/series, I think Booth and Brennan each individually think it’s time. And they are both aware of that in the other, something else that is new. I also believe that it’s on the writers to “pay up as promised” — that is, we all sort of had issues with this season, holding on to the promises that it would be worth it in the end. Well, it’s the end (of the season), and it’s time to man up, pony up, steel ovaries up, whatever we want to call it. Not so much to give fans what we WANT but more to give credibility to the season’s storylines.

MR: The fact that I’m arguing against them getting together is bizarre for me. Six months ago, I was adamant this needed to be the year, because yes, they’ve been dancing around this forever. However, that was before Booth proposed to Hannah. I know many fans want to forget she existed, but I don’t think it’s fair for the Booth-Brennan relationship (and the storylines we went through this year) to ignore the impact she had. I love that Booth and Brennan are aware they both want to take that next step, but I really feel they should be proceeding with a whole lot of caution.

SC: I agree in theory, except Hannah has barely been mentioned (or covered up in BONES’s usual “Mastodon-ian” way) at all. From what I can see, there is no residual impact (and I also contend that she pretty much had zero impact, but that is for another day!). For all of Brennan’s “friendship” with Hannah, she has had no conflict in not keeping that friendship connection, and where Booth might feel the “sting of rejection,” there isn’t really even remorse or guilt (his specialties!) on his end. Some of that has to do with the episodic nature of the show, but more than that, I see B&B on a path and the Hannah issue was not a separate path, just a billboard.

MR: Honestly, that lack of acknowledgment of Hannah’s impact is what worries me the most about a potential Booth-Brennan coupling this season. It’s not even that Booth moved her into his home/life and arguably drifted from his friends — he told Brennan Hannah wasn’t a consolation prize and even after knowing that Brennan regretted her decision, Booth proposed to Hannah. He asked to spend the rest of his life with her. True, he had basically done the same thing with Brennan a year earlier, but those aren’t things that should be dismissed. But yes, after how big a deal was made about the Hannah-Brennan friendship, it’s amusing that Brennan has shown no signs of being distressed to no longer have it in her life. However, I do consider Hannah to be more of a detour than an entirely separate path on this journey.

SC: That makes sense, and it still makes my stomach drop every single time I hear Booth say the word “wife.” I mean, marriage, love, all of that, it is easy to see where those would be what Booth was “chasing” (for lack of a better word), but wife — yeah, that was real! The one thing I’ve noticed, though, is that even post-Hannah (and I really don’t want this entire post to revolve around her, haha!), it seems as if B&B are hashing out all of their “differences,” in order to fully be ready. But at some point, they’ve got to make that next step and think, “we can be together in every way and still work things out as we go.” So let me ask you this…if B&B DID get together, what’s the worst that could happen at this point?

MR: Yes, let’s not have this be all about Hannah — she was certainly just a small part in the journey. I do enjoy that they’ve been hashing out their differences, but my concern about some of the things is that they are covering up a bullet hole with a band-aid. I’d like for them to address Booth’s anger and his role in those proposals not working out. My biggest concern about them getting together is it not being done right. There is no doubt in my mind that they will get together eventually (I know, we all hate that word), but fans have waited six seasons for this. I’d much rather it be done right than it be done hastily or as a way to appease unhappy fans.

SC: I agree with the band-aid over the bullet hole thing, and I’ll go back even further — I’m still waiting for Booth to call Brennan out on not contacting him while they were both overseas. But it’s interesting, because while I was really itching for an all out B&B shouting match, each episode has shown me that they are less likely to hold grudges against one another than I am apparently. As far as the “not being done right” issue, I think there’s merit there. However…like I said in the beginning, I think at this point, waiting much longer will be “the wrong way.” While I haven’t agreed with everything that has been done between Brennan and Booth for the entire series, at the end of the day, I’ve always been able to say “At least it’s credible toward the characters.” At this point, keeping them apart, for whatever reason, would not be credible any longer — in my opinion. And I don’t think unhappiness is synonymous with wanting B&B together at this point. It’s not so much being appeased as it is seeing the characters treated in a realistic way. Having said that, my “what’s the worst that could happen” would be to have Booth and Brennan get together and then break up for some reason. Just…unfathomable.

MR: I actually didn’t think their lack of contact was out of character. There’s been a jump in time every season and nearly every year they don’t keep in touch. Plus, if they had been in contact and Booth had still moved on — how do we keep coming back to Hannah? — and waited until they returned to tell her, I don’t think fans would have been okay with that. I agree that the show shouldn’t wait too long (and I have faith the writers could pull off a B&B coupling if they put their minds to it), I just personally would not be comfortable if they got together now without having something change. They need to talk their issues out and it can’t be off-camera. We’ve been missing huge chunks of time — at least that seems safe to assume based on the progression of Angela’s pregnancy — and to have progress that big happen without us knowing? That’d be unfair to the audience. I’d like to see Booth and Brennan process what happened at the end of 100 and deal with it like adults. Discuss the hurt that went on for BOTH of them and then move on from that. (Oh, and I’m not trying to say fan unhappiness is directly about B&B not being together, but I’m worried people might think that’s the easy solution to fix the angst in the fandom. And if they got B&B together, only to break them up — yeah, I don’t think that will happen, so let’s not dwell on it!)

SC: “It can’t be off-camera.” Exactly. I waffle back and forth between being bummed when we get references of shared moments and thankful that the writers toss us those references (cannonball into the pool, anyone?). It’s funny that you mentioned Angela’s pregnancy, because I really would have liked to have seen Brennan more along for that ride, considering the special moment they shared in the season premiere and Brennan’s own (I assume still simmering) interest in having a baby of her own. It’s one of those “organic” (as in, was already built into the series plot and made sense) storylines I want more of. B&B DO need to talk, and they agreed on that in the elevator in “Blackout in the Blizzard.” I guess that for me, I see that talk being QUICKLY followed by the next step. After all, what else would there be to wait for? And if we have to wait an entire summer for the talk, well, that’s just ridiculous. We agree that there must be a balance. It can’t be rushed, but I just honestly can’t see any more realistic obstacles. Yes, I *may* or may not have thought the same thing after “Santa in the Slush” (my first episode ever), but COME ON! THEY ARE SO READY. I don’t think I can be convinced otherwise.

MR: I actually think one of my biggest disappointments of how season six has been handled is Angela’s pregnancy. What we saw has been amazing, but as of now, there’s really been no impact of it beyond Angela/Hodgins/Wendell. The scene you mentioned in the premiere between Brennan and Angela was one of my favorite moments of the season so far. Bringing up the baby issue for Brennan would also give them an excuse to go back to the fact that she wanted a kid with Booth, but hadn’t really pursued her desires since he got sick. These are things that should be discussed on-camera. I agree it’s nice to know these guys get along great when we’re not checking in with them, but there are some things that are too important to miss. And it’s interesting because I do agree with you that a talk will lead quickly into the next step, but as of now, I’m feeling like it can’t just be ONE talk. Brennan is nothing if not rational and Booth is emotional. It feels like before they get into a relationship they should want to make sure they are very clearly on the same page with their intentions this time around because this is it. It’s them, together, for the next 30, 40 or 50 years.

As for being convinced to change our minds, well, that’s for another week. Our next installment of this will have Sarah and I discussing what it would take for either of us to change our positions on this topic.

Where do you fall? Do you think Booth and Brennan should get together this season? Or do you think they need a little more time? Vote in our poll below and then defend your choice in the comments!

Can I just first of all say I love this debate? It’s similar to what has been hashed and rehashed on the message boards All. Season. Long.
I guess my position falls somewhere inbetween. Yes, I do think B&B need to have a talk. And I would LOVE for it to be onscreen. They both have some explainin’ to do. Brennan needs to make Booth aware of EXACTLY why she rejected him last year. It wasn’t because she was rejecting him per say, as much as she was scared. Let’s face it, all Booth heard was no. The rest was pretty much blah, blah, blah, blah as far as he was concerned. I also think Brennan should tell him WHY she went to Maluku. Basically what she told Angela, she needed to get away to gain objectivity. I adamently believe they needed that separation. As far as the no contact, that’s just semantics, IMO.
I also do not believe that Booth needs to apologize for Hannah. He said he was going to move on, Brennan said I know, he found someone willing to drop her skirt for him under a fig tree, Brennan was upset, but she accepted it. Now as far as what happened after that….Yeah. There needs to be some explaining. I would love to see Booth admit that he not only lied to himself in that relationship, but that he lied to EVERYONE. Hannah and Brennan included. Because no matter how you slice it, in the grand scheme of the show, Hannah WAS the consolation prize (There are no words for how much I despise that line). The whole mess of Booth’s dialog from the 100th, to the Doctor in the Photo, to the Proposal needs to be cleared up. How could Booth say that Brennan is the one, and that he knew, right from the beginning, and that Brennan is the standard….then turn around and say Hannah isn’t a consolation prize and PROPOSE to her, after Brennan’s admission??? WHAAAAAAT?????????? I’m sorry, but it would just be unbelievable for Brennan to accept him with no explanation after all she has said about love being ephemeral and chemical reactions. He didn’t exactly prove her wrong, now did he? Booth CHOSE Hannah over Brennan. Booth made the decision that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Hannah. Arguably, Booth was the one to ultimately end the relationship by not being willing to go back as they were, but still. Where does this leave Brennan? No amount of time can go by that by Booth’s own words she would not be the consolation prize. He has to make the choice to be with her because he wants to, not because he now knows that she wants to be with him, and no one else does. Fast forward to Blackout in the Blizzard and the talk in the elevator. Brennan said they would never make it as a couple beyond sex. And Booth agreed. Huh??? That totally negated both of their confessions. Only to come back at the end of that episode and basically say when they get over themselves perhaps they could try to be together. Ok, that’s great and all, but how does one measure that? No one can predict the future. What happens if they wrote down different dates? He’s not ready but she is, or vice versa? What happens if that date comes and goes and NEITHER is ready??? Dumb, dumb, dumb. Sorry.
Now what happens at the end of the season is pure specualtion, but I’m in the wait and see camp. Can the writers fix this epic mess believably, or will they just throw B&B together lazily and sloppily? We are 4 episodes away from the finale and I haven’t seen much forward movement for B&B. It’s almost like they are stuck in another rut, neither willing to break the status quo. Also there is still no renewal, and even though everyone is so confident that they will get it, and all signs point to that fact, bottom line is Season 6 has been wrapped and there is no absolute guarantee of a Season 7. So….Where does that leave us with this storyline? Do they put B&B together at the last minute, and have to work out writing them as a couple for an entire season? Or do they not put them together and risk not getting the pickup and a whole lotta angry fans?
I guess, I won’t really be upset if they don’t make the leap by the finale, but the shipper in me would have a hard time being mad if they do get together. All I know is that I absolutely do not want them having sex anytime in the next 4 episodes. That would be too much right now. I just want to get out of this season, with a hug, or at the very most, a kiss and both agreeing that they are ready, then start over with a fresh slate for season 7. It sounds bad, but I think I would really be happy to just forget this season even existed.

    This is hard.

I think I’m somewhere in between Sarah and Marisa in that I really think that B&B are unbelievably close to being ready for that next step but also realize that there’s so much that needs to happen between now and then. And just because I’m a math person, I’ll put it this way: I estimate that in a 43 minute episode, we usually get anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes of true B&B personal progression time (not counting professional interaction.) Given that we only have 4 episodes left, that gives us approximately 20 minutes (I’m rounding up here, being generous). Lets also assume that Angela gives birth this season and that she has about 3 months left of her pregnancy. That means that we’re spanning 3 months of B&B time in 20 minutes. Is that enough time to tell this story properly? I don’t think it is. How much will they give us and how much will they imply? I fear that they may imply too much and that the audience will be a little gypped.

Part of me just hopes they chuck a case out the window for one of the eps and focus on relationships the entire time but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

  3. TR on April 28th, 2011 11:52 am

MR: “his role in those proposals not working out”

I haven’t seen any indication of the show addressing this issue, and I don’t know how they can if they keep pretending that Hannah had no lasting impact. Also, it just makes Booth unlikable.

So voted NO for next season. I don’t mind waiting (it’s a drama, not real life). If they do get together, I won’t watch.

  4. Dunkin Donuts on April 28th, 2011 11:59 am

Don’t care either way. (I’m not being sarcastic, I just don’t think the romantic tension is believable right now regardless of the outcome.)

I just want them to go back to being smart and real people, not the Robot Brennan and Preach Booth we’ve had all season long. If that change happens, I’m OK with whatever the writers throw at us.

  5. skylark66 on April 28th, 2011 12:16 pm

Ugh, thanks a lot both posters and commentators for bursting my happy bubble that maybe, in this season finale, we would have a different outcome than the angst and stalling of the last few finales. Yes, it is time for them to be together, try for a romantic relationship, to see if they really could make it and work on their issues as a committed couple. If this happens, then maybe, I would get interested in the other cast again. At this point, I could care less what happens to Hodgela.

  6. Parsely on April 28th, 2011 12:33 pm

Wow, I’m conflicted. The answer should obviously be “yes” but I’m not interested in BB getting together right now. Maybe if they talk about the things Marissa mentions in the next 2 episodes. I do think the show will put them together this time.

I guess my answer is “yes, it’s time” but “I’m not going to be happy about it.” I would accept whatever happens if the characters and writing are believable. I think the last Finder episode was the first time in a long time (including the Doctor in the Photo and the elevator episodes) where I saw glimpses of the quiet, emotional Brennan of earlier seasons. Which was very nice to see. And what little we’ve seen of Brennan and Angela have been touching too. And Booth’s more honest emotional scenes (not when he lectures Bones) have been good too. But there hasn’t been enough payoff for him yet. So I want good scenes for BB, separately and together. Getting them together isn’t a priority for me.

  7. E on April 28th, 2011 12:45 pm

I really would have liked to see them both dating other people after the Hannah fiasco. To me their chemistry is gone. However, since it is definate that they will end up together, I would rather see more time. In my eyes, Brennan is the consolation prize. Yes, he loved her first, she said no, and he rightfully moved on. He fell in love with Hannah, lived with her, had her bond with his son, and then proposed (after knowing Brennan regretted her decision). At no time, that I could see, did Booth show any regret of moving on with Hannah. I did not like his behavior toward Brennan regarding “she is different” and other comments that he made. Nothing has been explained as to how he felt.

Now Booth is angry, and Brennan is standing by him. So Booth will fall in love with Brennan again, after a short time after Hannah. This is no different than his relationship with Hannah. To me it looks like Booth is settling for Brennan because she stood by him. Brennan should not be settled for. The writers need to show that this is not the case.

All of this season has been putting down the character of Brennan because she said no. Hannah, basically her friends “forgetting” about her, and Brennan being basically alone until Booth came back after Hannah. They need to redeem the character of Brennan. She is the reason I watch the show. I did not care that Booth had Hannah. It was the way that Brennan was portrayed this season that turned me off.

They have been having Booth do all the preaching as to how Brennan has to change. What about him? They did this with Hodgela, and I can’t stand how Jack always has to do what Angela wants. To me the writers portray Booth and Angela as the normal, always right, characters and that Jack and Brennan should be honored to be with them. I personally think that Booth and Angela are the most unsecure of the whole bunch.

As to B & B, I would hope that we see Booth making some changes in these next episodes and redeem himself in my eyes. We all know that Hannah is coming back and that is probably when the writers will show us everything. I just can’t stand to see Brennan portrayed like this. HH believes that she rationalizes everything and probaby blames herself. I don’t see this completely rational character that he sees. I think she has been hurt deeply and I think it needs to be discussed. If I were her, I would be very unsecure moving into a relationship with Booth. If Booth falls in love with her after Hannh, why would Booth not fall in love with Hannah again if she came back. That would be a rational assumption.

  8. Bridget on April 28th, 2011 12:48 pm

I’m with Marisa. At the beginning of this season/end of last season, I was all for B&B to get together NOW. They were ready NOW. But where they really are right now – no way. “Covering a band-aid with a bullet hole” is the perfect way to describe it. I’m one of the minority of people who was not left with warm and fuzzy shippery feelings at the end of Blackout in the Blizzard (Do we really want B&B getting together as the result of a date they wrote down on a hot dog wrapper? That’s all it’s going to take? Seriously??)

Booth and Brennan have grown closer and opened up a teeny more with each episode since Daredevil, but they still have way too much between them to get out in the open. And while I, like Sarah, was hoping to see something like that come to head in a more confrontational way, it’s clear at this point that it won’t. At the very least, a discussion DOES have to happen. I don’t want the writers sweeping Booth & Brennan’s problems and issues under the rug just to hastily get them together and quiet the shippers, because in that instance Booth’s relationship with Brennan would be just as superficial and shallow and fake as his relationship with Hannah was. Do it right and make them get real so they can make it last. I don’t care if it doesn’t happen this sesaon. I want it to feel right, and right now, I’m not feeling them.

  9. E on April 28th, 2011 12:48 pm

Looked at my typo errors. I meant insecure.

  10. Shelly on April 28th, 2011 12:51 pm

The Booth Brennan relationship, and Booth and Brennan as characters, have rung so false and contrived for me this season, I’m not sure what I want. It feels almost like the writers are between a rock and hard place. Getting them together now, I think would smack of laziness, too many things would have to be left hanging and unaddressed. Not getting them together just seems like the same vacillation that I’ve watched for the last six years, watching them talk, think it to death, and spin in circles, not going anywhere. Bottom line for me, HH and Co. missed catching that “wave” when it would have been wonderful and romantic and right, all the things I was looking forward to when I started to watch Bones. Now Booth and Brennan just seem tired and worn out, and so am I.

  11. Colleen on April 28th, 2011 1:16 pm

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I swear, Christine (@Rayne73) and I have this conversation almost everyday.

We both think it’s time for them to take the next step, and realistically think it could happen. I’m not going to do a big long post because I don’t have time, but I really think you ladies just hit the nail on the head with your article, and said what so many people are thinking.

Honestly, though I wouldn’t be at all surprised if tonight’s ep led to a talk – and then next week, when we all know someone dies, leads to another talk, and smash-bang-boom they realize there’s nothing left to lose and there’s no reason to wait any longer.

Who knows, though – maybe they’ve been together since “Blizzard” and HH and crew are messing with our brains. Wouldn’t be the first time. ;-P

  12. E on April 28th, 2011 1:35 pm

I am with Bridget on this. They missed their “moment” and now everything is just off. They will put them together for the shippers, but to me it will never be right.

HH thinks that Jack and Angela are the perfect couple. I just don’t see it his way, and I guess I won’t see it his way with B & B either. What could have been will now be “whatever will be will be.”

  13. Rose on April 28th, 2011 1:38 pm

I think I agree with Sarah. It’s time. I don’t agree with what the writers did this season. The writing in my opinion has been lazy. If there has been this overarching theme this year I cannot find it. What I have seen on my TV screen is the destruction of both main characters. With regard to Temperance Brennan I can accept that though she personally struggled with Booth/Hannah relationship she studied the relationship. But, my question is “To What end?” Why did she need to study it if Booth was going to choose Hannah which he did. How was this fulfilling as an audience member to watch?

My second issue is that they have portrayed Brennan in a manner that she doesn’t seem to have any true interactions with anyone except Booth on a very limited basis. I have not seen her have any real conversations with Angela or Hodgins or Cam. This entire year it seems they have both Sweets and Booth ganging up on her to change her or show her the error of her ways which has not been enjoyable to watch.

I like other posters cannot figure out what they did to Booth either. He has just been mean this season. Are we supposed to feel sympathetic toward him? Why? Because he is angry? What does he have to be angry about? This is the problem I am having with this season, the writers are not giving me enough to care about. I don’t understand his motivations.

However, back to the question of whether or not to put them together. If they don’t, then what? Are they going to address all of the issues? No, they haven’t in the past. They drop plot lines and never come back to them so why would I expect that this will be the same this time. So, yes, get them together so I can see cute interactions and maybe think that Booth actually cares for her which I am not sure about right now. It sure has to be better than angst and season six.

  14. ann on April 28th, 2011 1:45 pm

unless, booth is willing to tell her the truth about hannah,I SAID let her go visit her family.don’t put them together/there is no way bones can accept the way hannah came into the diner/and still want to be with him.

  15. Liz on April 28th, 2011 2:00 pm

I can’t decide what I want. I guess, as of where we stand right now, I’m leaning towards Marisa’s side. It’s just too complicated to get them full-out together right now. I need to see some serious conversations which could possibly be dealt with by the finale, but I don’t honestly see that happening. My biggest fear, I guess, is that HH & Co. don’t see a need for any pre-coupling discussions. I find it very frustrating in retrospect that they’ve passed by about three truly organic moments to get them together over the last couple years, to be left at this point in the relationship. The only thing I cling to is perhaps there is a bigger story arc here, and we just can’t see it yet. I have no earthly idea what it could be, but I will reserve ultimate judgment until I see this season in its entirety.

And I have to say (personal opinion with no disrespect to any fan), I always feel a little disgruntled/amused/embarrassed (I’m not sure what the right sentiment is) that some of the fanbase turns tides the moment a seemingly “shippy” moment appears on screen, trumping all previous negative vibes/commentary. It simply perpetuates the idea that the fans want B/B together at all costs despite, and perhaps to the detriment of, realistic story-telling. I can’t help but feel it lowers our apparent viewing IQ and/or legitimacy to the TPTB. It’s refreshing to read both this thought-provoking debate, as well as some of the comments that are realistically optimistic and who appreciate honest story-telling.

  16. EL on April 28th, 2011 2:00 pm

This entire show has become a consolation prize. Castle is now the standard.

  17. Mary T on April 28th, 2011 2:01 pm

It has dragged that many viewers do not care one way or another.
HH I believe has misjudged on how long the fans will accept this almost
relationship. The writers have developed Booth/Brennan into a brother
    and sister team.
This has been the worst season for Bones. Either there are new writers or
the main focus is on the possible new series Locator.
For me, I now just record the show and watch it at another time. If is is
dull or boring there is the delete tap. I have used delete several times this
    season.

  18. Lola on April 28th, 2011 2:07 pm

So if they don’t put them together are you going to promise me that HH will go there and discuss these issues?
Will they really ‘resolve’ the problem I have with Booth? I really don’t trust him anymore when it comes to love. I don’t think he knows which end is up. I don’t think he’s the heart guy…..cuz I don’t feel he knows his heart. Asking two different women to marry him in a year’s time? He’s full of it.

But that said, if I’m going to have any interest in this show anymore, HH has to really change things up. That means put B&B together and tell me the what next part of the story.

Cuz this year’s story – I’ve not liked at all. I’m thisclose to being done with Bones.

  19. Delph on April 28th, 2011 2:08 pm

I think they have developed Booth and Brennan into a father-daughter relationship more than a sibling one… IMO

I know, right? But you must understand that this self-same portion of the fanbase do not see or feel the negative vibes. Everything is just peachy between B&B, doncha know.

Anyhoo, I do not agree that we won’t see a big dramatic confrontation between B&B. There have been several moments of distinct impatience and frustration on both their parts that must eventually come to a head. I can think of no quicker way to clear the air and move this thing forward in the time we have left. Besides, a truly honest and emotional catharsis would make up for the pains of hell we’ve all been through this season.

  21. Megan on April 28th, 2011 2:48 pm

Yes I think it is about time they get together. It has been way too long and I don’t think that it would be wise to drag out the will-they-won’t-they thing. Booth and brennan are clearly meant for eachother!
I agree that there are definetly some issues that they need to discuss but they need to get together.
I would be so happy if they get together in the season finale but I try don’t I would be frustrated but I won’t stop watching because bones is my favorite show.

  22. Cam on April 28th, 2011 2:56 pm

Wow, it’s so refreshing seeing this debate actually being debated. I actually agree with both arguments, but I’m more pro them getting together this season. I’ve always wanted them to end up together, but not until the end, or at least last half of the last season. That way there would be no reason for the writers to break them up for creative reasons.
The only reason why I feel they should get them together this season is the fact that they are now both aware of the other one’s feelings. They could have continued with just the tension forever if if hadn’t been for the confessions that have changed the dynamic this season. Right now it seems more right and fair to the characters to let them get together than to make up reasons why they shouldn’t. In previous seasons there have been reasons to not do it, but now it’s just Brennan’s insecurities that seem to change from week to week just to keep it going and Booth’s hurt feelings over Hannah that he refuses to deal with.
I would like for there to be more dealings with Hannah’s impact on Booth, but I feel that it should have been dealth with by now, and I kind of liked the mention of a shouting match. I wish Booth could just yell at Brennan a little, and then they could get the whole mess out of the way.
All in all, I feel the best thing to do in order to keep the story as true to the characters as they’ve managed to do over the past 6 years is to let them get together in the end of this season. I wish it was possible to postpone it to the end of the show, but it’s at a point where I fear that would ruin the show for most people who invest in more than just the cases.

  23. Bridget on April 28th, 2011 3:03 pm

@Sunny – I agree 100% with what you said. I think to be truly realistic to move forward, B&B NEED to have a confrontation. I’m not talking like Brennan slapping Booth in 100 – just a good old fashioned clearing of the air. $**t needs to get real between them before I’d ever buy them as a couple at this point. As Booth once put it – Whatever I felt before, I don’t feel it now.

Unfortunately, I don’t have faith that the writers will go that way. I’m not saying they have to beat a dead horse or anything, but I don’t want what happened this season glossed over and swept under the rug either. And I don’t want B&B to get together because informally contracted date they wrote down. To take an Angela quote out of context, “You know the way this is supposed to happen, right?”

  24. Delph on April 28th, 2011 3:10 pm

I want Brennan to snap and yell at everybody to shut the hell up and that they better go look at themselves before telling her how to be a human being, what to think/feel/say/do, and that they all are “do as I say not as I do” people ^^

  25. Lisa on April 28th, 2011 3:12 pm

I think they’ve missed their moment not yet. Brennan was too insecure and knew she couldn’t handle it if there was even the slightest possiblity that Booth leaves her. Booth proposed to Hannah, because he wanted a “wife” not a soulmate. He wouldn’t even thought about proposing to Hannah if Sweets didn’t blurt out that he doesn’t want to end up like Booth, alone with no wife. I think that is what everybody is forgetting. And I still didn’t forgive Sweets for that little peptalk of his… -.-‘

Booth and Brennan should have ONE BIG messed up fight, tell eachother wat they’ve really felt and still feel. That would reveal some big emotions. Screaming, crying, throwing things, all what it takes to get those unrevealed layers to the surface. And then they should realize that they’ve been hurting eachother and themselves, and that they truly love eachother.

It’s was she said: “Hannah was a billboard” A little distraction, a test and to get to truly understand eachother.

It’s true Booth has been mean, Sweets has been pushing, Brennan did not have a lot of personal interactions with Angela or Cam. And there was way to much Booth/sweets time. But I have faith and hope all this drama has a purpose…

  26. Drippan on April 28th, 2011 3:43 pm

It doesn’t matter if B&B get together at the end of the season as far as I’m concerned. I can go either way.

The real question is “Is HH going to get them together?’ and the answer is no. He’s said to many times that if he got them together it would end the series. I must say I think he has a lot better plan for the finale than he did last year but how can it be worse?

  27. Kayla on April 28th, 2011 3:44 pm

I think they were ready last season.
The emotional connections now seem forced and I agree that things like Hannah have just kind of been forgotten. While their best moment may have passed, that doesn’t mean that they won’t ahve another. I want a shouting match between Booth and Bones so badly, and if it ended with a kiss, that wouldn’t be so bad either. It’s just time, too much has happened for them to not. I think it’s sad that a lot of fans are just exhausted at this subject, and it’s felt that they are owed a relationship instead of being excited for one.

  28. Steffi on April 28th, 2011 3:53 pm

Oh I’m all in for it! They need to get together! I don’t know how this season will be finished but if they don’t get together in the finale they really need to get it going in the beginning of Season 7. If not I’m afraid the dynamic between B&B will change. 🙁 I loved the whole will they, won’t they and I totally loved the chemistry and sexual tension, the lingering looks and double meanings and all …. I sooo loved that. But after 6 years it’s just time to stop. The dynamic already changed in Season 6 and not just because of Hannah. Booth became different. He’s so impatient with Brennan sometimes. Impatient with her scientific mind, interrupts her and doesn’t laugh about her jokes. Not even tries to be nice …. I miss the eye sex lol. Even if it has been 6 years and they’re so comfortable with each other that they don’t need it. I miss it.

When Hannah was there I had hope for a few glances from Booth, showing that he still had feelings for Bones, that he was struggling with moving on. But I didn’t see that. And that made me sad. Because like this the whole Hannah storyline seems off to me. I saw Bones struggling. But Booth? His feelings for Bones just disappeared? And then some time after Hannah is gone he burns a date hoping to get together with her? huh? ^^^

Of course they need to work out a few things. I want Booth to realize a few things. I want a conversation between him and Bones about Hannah, what she really meant to him and what he still felt for Bones … why he asked Hannah to marry him when he asked Bones to spend the rest of their lives together only months ago. I want Bones to ask him about that. I don’t want her to feel like a consolation prize!

But when they talk things out and admit that they both feel the same …I want some serious kissing and making out 😀 And I want a beautiful scene of them making love. Because one of the most important things has always been the dfierence from sex to making love and breaking the laws of physics 😀 I want to see that with them because Brennan has changed so much … I want to see how she handles these emotions 🙂

And honestly, Booth & Bones are very interesting characters. They have lots of stuff in their pasts, the bickering, their job … there’re so many things that would make a GREAT storyline with them as a couple. After 6 years I don’t think it would hurt the show to show them as a couple. We’ve got so many great people in/behind the show who could make a great show, even with B&B being romantically involved. I don’t think it would be boring.

I’ve been a fan of many shows. JAG is a great example. Because Harm & Mac got together in the very last episode and we never saw them acting as a couple. See what life throws at them, how they handle it. I would’ve loved to see that as well as the building up to it.

So I really hope Hart Hanson won’t do the same and get them together in the very last episode and that’s it 🙁 B&B are way too interesting for that and David & Emily are too talented to just throw that chance away. 🙂

Now I’m rambling here lol … sorry! But I just love that show very, very much and the crew seems so nice, talented … just amazing! I just hope my fav show will do things right and keep me there till the end 🙂

You guys are all amazing! And BOOTH & BONES NEED TO MAKE OUT NOW! 😀

    Steffi =)

I want Brennan with a guy like Sully, they seem more equal.

  31. Mary T on April 28th, 2011 4:11 pm

    Delph

Remember Sully left Brennan at the dock. How is he more equal to Brennan?

  32. Telemundo Fan on April 28th, 2011 4:17 pm

Voted YES, because it’s getting ridiculous. But agree with Marissa in the debate.

  33. Anna on April 28th, 2011 4:23 pm

No real discussion from me — just one comment about a comment in the article! Why should Booth have to call Brennan out about not contacting him while they were apart for 7 months? He knew where SHE was, didn’t he? Actually, it would probably have been easier for him to reach out to her and get her on the phone or send her a letter to Maluku than it might be for her to contact him while he was in Afghanistan. Did HE make the effort? Apparantly not. But its all HER fault that they didn’t keep in touch? I continue to wonder why so many fans blame the Brennan character in this respect!

  34. Delph on April 28th, 2011 4:28 pm

And Brennan didn’t go with him either. They both respected each other needs. Sully needed to run away after what happened to his partner a year ago, and Brennan wasn’t ready yet. Sully merely expressed his opinions, he wasn’t forcing them upon her, he let her be, like she let him be and lets Booth be, but Booth is always trying to teach her a lesson like he has the revealed truth.
And his proposition to runaway didn’t come out of the blue like some have said, that he wanted her to abandon everything for him, Brennan herself said to Sully that most of the time she feels drained and not satisfied after a case (what she expressed in boy in the answer was nothing new, there were several hint of her fatigue), he was just asking her one year, and she could have tried to negotiate a shorter time and/or to wait a little longer before going, but we all know that Brennan was too afraid back then, like she still was in the 100th to negotiate instead of telling no. Brennan said herself that she adored him, that he was perfect and that they communicated well. I don’t see that with Booth. JMO

  35. Delph on April 28th, 2011 4:38 pm

“But its all HER fault that they didn’t keep in touch?”

It’s always like that. There’s a double standard when it comes to Brennan and the other characters. Booth and Brennan are quite alike, yet only Brennan is asked to work on her issues that Booth and other characters actually share with her. They reproach her behaviors they have too, but when they act like that it is ok, because they are always right since they are heart persons.
When Brennan sees the world in black and white (Max), Booth teaches her that the world is gray and he is right on the show of course, but then when she sees it in gray (Broadsky), good and bad are subjective and not absolute, Booth sees it in black and white and again he is right on the show, and Brennan ends up agreeing, Booth = good, Broadsky = bad. Even though when it came to Max, Booth said that people are not just defined by one thing (Max having someone killed), yet apparently Borasdky is just defined by his killings…

  36. Laura M on April 28th, 2011 4:49 pm

    Yes! Because c’mon….
But that doesn’t mean I’m ok with this season or Booth. I agree with Marissa on all the aspects about Booth’s anger and owning up to his part in failure and payoff for Hannah arc.

  37. Bridget on April 28th, 2011 5:14 pm

@Steffi “When Hannah was there I had hope for a few glances from Booth, showing that he still had feelings for Bones, that he was struggling with moving on. But I didn’t see that. And that made me sad. Because like this the whole Hannah storyline seems off to me.”

Exactly. If the writers don’t have Booth & Brennan address ‘something’ about Booth’s relationship with Hannah – how it affected Brennan, how it affected Booth, how it affected THEM, then I fail to see what the purpose of the Hannah arc was. Because Brennan would’ve had her epiphany in Doctor in the Photo regardless of Hannah – her confession to Booth was brought about by identifying with a victim, not Hannah.

With Booth – the aftermath of Hannah’s proposal rejection leading Booth to give the ‘we’re just partners, take it or leave it’ ultimatum – where are we in that regard? Was there a reason for that dramatic or is that going to be another thing we’re just supposed to forget about? I really hope not, because I’d love to be able to look back at S6 as a whole and go, “yeah, I get it now.” I really hope the writers are able to show the reasons and consequences for all of the angst that happened this year, but that’s a lot to ask for in 4 episodes.

  38. Linda on April 28th, 2011 5:33 pm

If you had asked the question about B&B getting together pre-100th, my answer would automatically have been a strong YES. But all that has transpired since then now has me conflicted and a little doubtful. I have to agree with many of the posters concerning character integrity. Where has that kick-ass, confident Brennan gone? Her character is so robotic (more than she ever was), and it seems like the emphasis is on Brennan being at fault for saying no to Booth’s proposal. We all know there were many reasons for that no, not loving Booth being one of them. Plus, Brennan has been so isolated from her co-workers. I know Angela is having a baby but where have those wonderful heart to heart conversations gone between these two BFF’s. The Angela I knew from the past would have reached out to Brennan, and would definitely done some serious recon on Hannah. And most of all, I so miss the warm and caring Booth I had come to know and love since the series began. All I see now is someone who has been mean-spirited to Brennan and the rest of the “Jeffersonian Family”, and MAD because things have not gone his way. Even now after a tenuous peace has been established between the two of them, Booth is preaching to Brennan about something she has done wrong= change on her part. Aren’t many of Brennan’s rational character traits what attracted him to her in the first place? How Brennan is not running in the other direction amazes me. I so miss their fantastic chemistry that was there from day one of the series. In my opinion, that is totally gone, and I never thought I would see that happen. If the Hannah arc had not run almost half of the season AND (this is a big one for me), if Booth had not proposed to Hannah, I could see B&B getting together. I could understand some of Booth’s behavior. But I did not see any regret or conflict on Booth’s part when he popped the question. After 6 years? She was the standard? 30, 40, 50 years? In defense of TPTB, I think that many times this season there was a huge disconnect between what the writers were trying to convey onscreen, and what the views were actually seeing. A perfect example of this would be the infamous “Sunglasses scene”. This problem could have led to viewer confusion many times. It has with me. So after this vent (I could go on and on), I will say that I want to see what the next four episodes bring before I make a final decision on my feelings concerning a B&B commitment. But honestly, at this point, I would just love to get the chemistry back..in a realistic manner.

  39. ellen on April 28th, 2011 5:37 pm

as sarah says–it’s time. I’m sure we’ll be discussing H over the summer. I think her presence was essential for Brennan’s growth and understanding of who she loves and what she wants from that love….but as for Booth? I’m still not sure what the purpose of a proposal was and eventhough Brennan seems to accept whatever Booth says–I think we as fans deserve some closure. the last scene of Sin in the Sisterhood just wasn’t enough for me and I would like Booth to explain where he is.
I think one of the Biggest problems with H was the decision to ‘adjust” the original story–to expand her story–because of that we didn’t see more great moments with Bren and Angela ( BIG MISSED OPPORTUNITIES for Ange and also for Bren’s development), we never heard another word about Cam’s work with TBI vets (could have been good) so…..I think this was a very uneven season lacking in direction. Don’t think it’s lazy writing nor do I think FINDER effected HH. I think he made these decisions with H and then kinda painted himself into a corner. The Kobioshi Maru if you will. And like Kirk–he just changed the story.
But here’s the thing. As MR says–B&B are together in many ways now–Bren has been there for him all season and he knows it. They know what they feel for each other (we fans aren’t sure about BOoth but Bren seems to be) so it IS TIME………we’ll see.

  40. Sarah (seels) on April 28th, 2011 6:04 pm

hey! Love every person’s comments! Won’t say much except to sort of defend my thought that Brennan never contacted Booth. In the season premiere, he aks if she kept in touch with anyone, and she says no…her phone was just for emergency, etc. Booth replies that he’s glad to hear it wasn’t just him… Leading me to believe hat he did attempt to contact her and she didn’t keep in touch. Hell no, it’s not all on her to maintain that friendship, but I don’t think I should get lumped into the group of people who blame Brennan for everything, as I do not do that. 🙂

  41. amc815 on April 28th, 2011 6:30 pm

I haven’t read the all the comments above, so I don’t know if it was already pointed out by someone else, but for me one of the biggest problems of Bones is that TPTB write something big (the B&B baby storyline, for instance), get us all interested and excited on how it’ll turn out and then they completely “forget” about it or don’t deal with it on camera or at all. I’ve come to realize that the writers are excel at avoidance. You know, ‘let’s write a line that references to something that was done/said in the past and we’re done,’ ‘let’s shoot a cute ending scene and they (the audience) will forget about what was left unsaid or wasn’t shown.’ I agree with you Marisa, the Angela-Brennan talk on the season premiere was one of the best moments this season (I’ve watched it so many times!) and I adore those two, sometimes even more than Brennan and Booth themselves, and I hate it that we only get to see them acting like friends only every now and then. If we’d had one quality scene between Brennan and Angela this season, it would be so much more easy to deal with the “what comes next” in the Brennan and Booth relationship. Angela is a lot like Booth and while Booth and Brennan weren’t “able” to really talk with each other, Angela should have been there and we should get to see that.

  42. L. M. on April 28th, 2011 6:31 pm

“Booth replies that he’s glad to hear it wasn’t just him… Leading me to believe hat he did attempt to contact her”
I’m not sure why that implies Booth tried to contact her. I can believe he thought the ball was in her court and wanted to give her space, but I don’t see any indication he tried to contact her. IMO.

Heck, yes, it’s time. But like a lot of people, it’s mostly because the series has run too long, not because I am convinced by the “progress” in the relationship. I’d really like a satisfying answer to the points Marissa brings up.

  43. Anna Röding on April 28th, 2011 6:33 pm

i think not this season, it´s to much problem for them to actually be togetheter. I am only watching it because have have no other series i want too see or like. Bones has been a series that I do not want to see but must. I want the end will end well. I do not think they will be picked up for an season 8. but I hope they will be picked up for complete season 7

  44. Kim on April 28th, 2011 6:38 pm

I no longer want to see season six Booth or season six Brennan together. This entire storyline has totally turned my love and interest for these two character to dislike. I no longer see any chemistry between them. They come across as siblings rather than romantic interests. I would enjoy the show more if they were both given outside romantic partners. The show needs to repair the damage to Booth and Brennan’s characters, before anything else happens between any of the characters.

  45. Joy on April 28th, 2011 7:13 pm

The BEST thing that could happen is that they somehow make this entire season never have happened and just START OVER. Nightmare, coma dream, plane crash before Brennan got to Maluka – don’t care, just make the season disappear!

Sigh. Since that won’t be happening, I’m more with Marisa on this. They need to try fixing the damage done to the characters’ credibility. When Booth said there’s only one that you love the most, he then went and proposed to HANNAH. Brennan is supposedly a genius – although the writers seem to have forgotten that this season (insert eye-roll here). He’s said he LOVES Hannah, that Hannah wasn’t the consolation prize, and asked Hannah to marry him – knowing how Brennan feels about him. They’ve had Brennan play the loyal, pining nerd-girl all season. Them getting together without any explanation on Booth’s side is just…icky. Can they fix that in three episodes – I don’t know, mainly because I don’t think the writers even see the problem. If they can, great, but it seems more realistic to think that they can move to fixing the integrity of the relationship so that it FEELS like they are addressing the past and healing. Booth and Brennan need to untangle the mess made, like, as Marisa said, ADULTS. No more John Hughes movie plots, please!

However, I also agree with Sarah that there should be NO MORE STUPID CONTRIVED OBSTACLES. Also, no more Booth teaching Brennan about love and life – he’s lost his credibility after this mess. Every time they’ve done a scene like that I cringe. Like, the whole body-farm episode I couldn’t get over how quickly Booth was like the mess was all Brennan’s fault. Seriously? I like how Brennan processed things at the end, because it WAS nice and sincere, but it wasn’t about how she shouldn’t have been so hard on him. They work in science academia; it’s brutal.

Anywho, I will DVR Bones, like I’ve done all season. Then I check the boards and read reviews to see if watching will at least be fun, or should I just delete it. Then I wait impatiently for Monday night and CASTLE. 😀

  46. sunny on April 28th, 2011 7:14 pm

@Bridget–“I agree 100% with what you said. I think to be truly realistic to move forward, B&B NEED to have a confrontation. I’m not talking like Brennan slapping Booth in 100 – just a good old fashioned clearing of the air. $**t needs to get real”

That’s what I’m talking about. Shizz needs to get real up in there. It’s not as if big, emotional fights between lovers never happens in real life. Hell, hubby and I have had more than our share of them. They clear the air and clarify feelings and issues. More often than not we end up having make-up sex because it’s CATHARTIC. 😀 You’re not really fighting each other, you’re each fighting FOR the relationship.

@Delph–“I want Brennan to snap and yell at everybody to shut the hell up and that they better go look at themselves before telling her how to be a human being”

Haha! That’s what I would do, no doubt about it. It makes me MAD that her friends can’t see how much pain she’s in and they just keep piling on! GRRRRRR.

  47. emma on April 28th, 2011 9:04 pm

One of my biggest issues with the show has always been that Booth’s character was the “normal” way to be and Brennan was strange and abnormal and that he had to teach her how to change everything about herself to become his idea of normal. I loved the Brennan of earlier seasons. I love that she was focused on her career and didn’t want to get married/have kids. Not wanting to do these things does not make as person abnormal, it is a personal choice that is extremely justified, especially when you have a person like Brennan. She accepted the limitations of personality and made a rational decision. I really hated how over the seasons they’ve had Brennan realise “the error of her ways” and start to want all these things that Booth does. Maybe her wanting to get married/have kids could have been done well if they’d shown Booth adapting to fit with her, but they haven’t shown anything like that. They just portray him as the standard that Brennan has to reach in order to be with him.

This season this behaviour of Booth “teaching” Brennan has reached its peak and it is honestly painful to watch. Last season Bones was far and away my favourite show on television. I couldn’t wait to get home and watch it and I cared so much about what happened to these characters. This year I am 5+ episodes behind and I don’t have much interest in catching up. That demonstrates just how awful the storylines have been to make someone who was a huge fan not care anymore. I still voted “yes” in the poll though because I feel like if they are not together by the end of this season, the show is really over. They cannot continue to talk about getting together, have pathetic obstacles thrown in their way, and not do anything for another season. I don’t understand why the obstacle couldn’t have been Brennan not ready for a serious relationship and then them adapting to being together as a couple, and the obstacle being her difficulties with trusting another person in that way. That would have been something I was interested in seeing that seems very real, vs Hannah which was so poorly written and cliched.

I can’t even talk about the Brennan/Angela relationship this season. I always think about The Doctor in the Photo where Brennan was visibly upset the entire time and no-one seemed to care or even checked on her once. There are thousands of missed opportunities of the two of them bonding. They barely even seem like friends at the moment, let alone best friends.

  48. E on April 28th, 2011 10:08 pm

After watching tonights episode, I see no chemistry of a romantic nature between B & B. Sorry, but that is how I feel. They are like two very good friends. I know the real shippers feel differently and they still see that chemistry. I wish I could but it is gone in my eyes.

Also, what happened to the Angela/Brennan scene that we were supposed to get. As usual, we get Wendall telling Brennan she is abrasive. She is playing the part of the socially clueless scientist again. Brennan all alone with only Booth as a friend. I am so sick of this season. Three more episodes to go and very little hope of restoring Brennan’s supposed strong bond with her co-workers. Only poor Booth will take pity on her and socialize with her.

Sorry for the rant, just not feeling the spark or the magic anymore.

  49. JJ on April 28th, 2011 10:09 pm

It was fun reading this debate, and love that these issues were acknowledged. I’m of 2 minds-
    I vote “yes, it’s time.”
But I’m with Marisa on the debate.

Mostly, I don’t think even Bones producers can come up with more reasons to keep them apart and this season finale is going to be it. But I don’t see growth in either character no matter how much fans can theorize it on paper. So it’s not exactly a satisfying end to the season.
For all the reasons Marisa and many posters mention, I feel like putting them together is a bandaid on a bad season. I’m especially with the posters on stopping with the turning Bones into an awkward joke just to drive home a lesson by Booth.

Oh, and I thought tonight’s episode was preachy toward the viewers as well.

  50. Mary on April 29th, 2011 12:01 am

I voted, “yes”, because it’s gone on way too long, but I agree with Marisa.

HH and Co have so totally denigrated Brennan and have also made Booth unlikable this season. Because of the writing, I don’t know if I think Booth deserves Brennan. I mean, here’s this great guy who tells a gal she’s THE ONE – and his “forever” one. She rejects him because she’s scared that she won’t be able to love him as he deserves, so thirty seconds later, without even being supportive of her and encouraging her, he says that he has to move on. And he does! Less than a year later, he proposes marriage to a woman who, frankly, is a piece of low-hanging fruit who has sex with him out of gratitude. (That piece of intel made me wonder how she thanks every guy she interviewed, thus explaining how she got so far with so little ability.)

He tells Brennan that he loves Hannah and that Hannah’s not “a consolation prize.” Then, hello! What is Brennan when he’s finally over his anger? Give me a break, and get Brennan someone she deserves!

Also, I’m getting very, very, tired of watching Brennan play Grasshopper to Booth’s Sensei. She’s a very, very, smart woman who, in Season 1, used to teach Booth as much as he taught her. Now, Booth does all the teaching.

Like some of the other posters, I now DVR Bones, then watch it later, AFTER I read the reviews.

Thank you, Marisa, for giving me the opportunity to vote, to discuss, and yes – to vent a bit.

Tonight’s episode would have been the perfect opportunity for Booth to ask Bones if she loved him, she would have had to tell the truth. Similarly there’s a myriad of questions she could have asked.

think hart hanson going tell fans hannah was just acting thats why booth laugh and grin/in last night show I GOT the feeling its going be all BONES fault. IN a way wouldn’t mind if bones met someone else.

Again we got Brennan defending an extreme opinion at the beginning only to have her agree with the mild the version of it defended by Booth and Sweets.
Except having told 2 people, I think, that they should loose weight, Brennan doesn’t go around speaking her mind about everything. Why is she always the extremist when she wasn’t before, she used to be better balanced. They could sometimes make Booth the extreme one about heart stuff and have him learn too the errors of his way.
But I always forget that Booth is perfect and already well balanced about everything, even if he leans more on the heart side, since this is the side one should all lean on *sigh* Heart = Good, Brain = Bad…

I think the reason why they don’t delve into Booth’s past, is because for the writers, Booth’s childhood issues make him the good (perfect) man he is today, a heart person, and it seems to me the writer think a heart person is the right kind of person to be, so there isn’t really any issues he should overcome.
But Brennan’s childhood issues make her a brain person, the wrong kind of person on the show apparently. So only she has to overcome her issues to become the heart person she really is deep inside, that she would have become without her trauma…

Ans since Brennan acted from the brain “I’m a scientist not a gambler”, and Booth acted from the heart, only Brennan is at fault *sigh*

I’m conflicted. Feel they have dragged the B&B prospective coupling out for far too long, but at the same time until B&B have a real heart to heart talk and get things out on the table it won’t work. I had hopes for the radical honesty episode but felt let down by the B&B interaction. The ending was a anti-climatic and lackluster. Let’s get some real truths out in the open. My fear is that the writers have a history of putting stuff out there and then glossing it over such as Brennan’s reaction to Booth’s supposed death, the coma dream (why wasn’t Brennan asked why she wrote that particular story in the first place), the I want to have your baby SL. I hope the writers don’t ignore that unresolved issues between these two date back to the 100th and beyond. These need to be aired for B&B to have any chance as a couple.

This is feeling a whole lot like the lead up to the 100th episode… kinda nothing episodes with very intense/poignant/meaningful moments at the bar before KABOOM their whole world changes. So looking forward to the last 2 episodes, the anticipation is overwhelming. The 100th episode didn’t let me down so I’m confident The Hole in the Heart and The Change in the Game won’t either.

Bonesjonsing I agree, the episode where Booth fakes his death and Brennan’s reaction to it is the only episode I feel we have truly been cheated out of. I would have also liked to have seen more after Booth’s coma – i.e. when he realised it was dream. I hope at some point they bring up Bones’ letter when she was trapped in the car too. Ohhh the possibilities – how could they even think not to renew this show!

Lol. I enjoyed this little debate. I would have to say that I probably agree more with Sarah and that they are ready to get together this season. However, I also definitely agree with both sides that it needs to be done “right” and they need to have a serious talk before they jump into a relationship and that we get to see that talk! So, random question, are there going to be any more live episode chats on GMMR this season? I really enjoyed the one after The Doctor in the Photo. I feel like there could be some emotional episodes at the end of this season and It’s always nice to be able to talk to other Bones fans right after the episode and share our initial reactions. 🙂

I just wish there hadn’t been so many filler episodes where absolutely nothing has happened and all chemistry appears to be long-gone. I think there’s an awful lot to fix in a few episodes and I have absolutely no faith the current writers can pull it off or even that they see there is a problem.

I don’t even know if I’ll watch the finale right now, these characters have become pretty unrecognisable for me. As it stands, all season 6 has achieved for me is turn me from a rabid fan who counted the minutes to the next episode to someone who genuinely forgets it is on now.

I knew there was no way they could pull off the SO storyline without massive disappointments along the way and I was right. I hope this season actually makes some kind of sense after the remaining episodes, because certain parts of it make absolutely none. I can’t believe I’m wishing for a coma dream to wipe this season out completely.

After some thinking, I still feel that B&B should get together now, but I also want them to discuss their relationship, the Hannah thing, and their subsequent quasi-meltdown of their relationship. I want B&B together because it is time, but also because I think that they would discuss their issues when they get together. If we just end the season with nothing happening between them, I feel like those issues won’t be resolved because in their minds (and the writers), there is no need to:they’re not getting together. But if they go for it and fix their issues in their relationship, then fans could get the pair and the issues resolved. Check and check!

I voted yes, because they should´ve gotten together last season or when they got back this season. Now i have a hard time to beleive it ever could feel good again to see them get together.

How could it be possible to fix a whole season of setbacks in just 3 episodes ?

Booth looks at Brennan like she´s not even human. She at least still looks at him with affection, but also with sadness/insecurity a want of approval, if she is saying/doing things right.

Booth has been acting like an immature ass and tptb claims he´s the greatest guy alive, and Bones used to be confident and have strong beleives that she would fight for now seems stupid and pathetic.Suprised they didn´t rename the show to “Booth”.

I doubt it very much that i will feel satisfied with the ending of this season, but if i do i will be very happy and come back for a 7 th season. The most likely way to get it good again would be as a couple of others have stated. Write this season off, start it all over, use a coma dream or whatever, just get rid of this whole mess.

I voted no!! Not until the series ends, then and only then.
