Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith to Graduate from GLEE - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith to Graduate from GLEE

July 13, 2011 by

Have a heart, will ya? You can’t spring the news on a girl that one of her favorite TV stars is exiting their show while said girl is in the grocery store. I had to stow away to the neglected foreign food aisle just so I could shed a tear or two in somewhat privacy.

Yes, as the headline indicates, GLEE stars Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith will indeed be leaving the show after this season. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, show creator Ryan Murphy confirmed their exit and said the stars will “not be back at all for season 4.”

Whoa. I will miss Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson, but a life without Kurt Hummel? Say it ain’t so.

Murphy explained away the trio’s graduation plans by saying, “You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.”

Give me a minute…yes, it will take that long to dramatically roll my eyes.  Since when does Ryan Murphy pay attention to realistic character development.  Now he starts to care? And it manifests in this way?  That sucks. As for staying realistic to the ages of the characters, how much is Ryan really paying attention?  He recently said that he didn’t think Darren Criss’ Blaine would be a senior next year despite him being a “Junior Warbler” this past season*.

Murphy did tell THR that life beyond graduation will be a big focus in Season 3 of GLEE.

No official statements from the three actors as of yet. Ryan Murphy did say that he had discussed his plans with Colfer and Michele, but not with Monteith.

I have to wonder if Murphy and Colfer taked before or after Colfer told the L.A. Times “I don’t know what I can say on camera with a straight face and what I can’t! [About the graduation rumors]…I would just tell the fans: Don’t be worried. That’s all I’m gonna say because a lot of fans are worried that the characters are going to graduate and leave the show, but that’s not necessarily the case. Don’t fret.”

Um, Chris…I’m fretting. Definitely fretting.

I don’t know about you, but this GLEE fan is going to start saying her prayers that plans are underway for some kind of spinoff.

If someone could just tell me that Fox will announcing “A New Direction” at next year’s upfront, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

*I’m still reeling from the news that Chris Colfer won’t be back on GLEE after next season. I’m not emotionally ready to talk about what this means for Kurt and Blaine, or Darren Criss.  I can’t, not yet.

This news is just insane… Every character on Glee is a certain high school stereotype. If the three of them leave, their stereotypes will have to be replaced. They don’t have another character in Glee that’s obsessed with being a star, or the dorky football playing jock, or the strong openly gay character, or the power couple. If The Glee Project has taught us anything, it’s that these stereotypes will be repeated over and over again. So in season four when they introduce Rachel Berry verion 2.0, we will constantly compare them to the first verison. Even worse, we’ll start to compare their story lines with the previous versions. Shamefully I have to admit I watched One Tree Hill up to the middle of season seven and it became completely unwatchable because they brought in new versions of two characters that left the show, then they put them in the same situation their previous versions had been in. This is a deal breaker.

You have the wrong poster. Why is Darren Criss on it? If Finn, Rachel and Kurt leave, you’ll need Blaine to anchor Season 4 of Glee. You should have one with Cory Monteith.

Its such as you learn my mind! You seem to understand so much approximately this, such as you wrote the book in it or something.

I believe that you just can do with some p.c.
to drive the message home a little bit, but
instead of that, that is fantastic blog. An excellent read.
    I’ll certainly be back.
