RAISING HOPE: Greg Garcia Talks Greyson Chance, Vegas, Guest Stars and More

September 20, 2011 by

RAISING HOPE is back!

Yes, not only does the show have one of the cutest babies on TV (seriously, just look at this face and I dare you not to melt), but the series is seriously good. If you haven’t been watching, why not jump in with the second season premiere?

For those of you who are already hooked, I talked with RAISING HOPE creator Greg Garcia about guest star Greyson Chance, the new season and more, so take a look!

Greyson Chance is coming!
Greg Garcia:
Yeah, we’ve got Greyson Chance — he’s going to be in three episodes.  The first one is the biggest of the three that he’s in and then we’re going to use him [because] we’re setting him up as the 13-year-old Jimmy, so we’ll have to pop back a couple of times. But, yeah, we’re excited about that. He’s going to play some music on the show. I went to see him recently and he’s amazing! I went to see him at the Hard Rock Café in Hollywood and he just sits down there at the piano and he’s hitting the piano and he belts out these tunes and I was very, very impressed.

What else can you tease about the new season?
GG: Let’s see, we’re going to go to Vegas. Amy Sedaris’ character is going to get married in Vegas. What else? I hate to tease. I hate to tease and ruin it for people! It’s funny! Everything’s going to be very funny. We’re going to be doing compelling stories about our characters that are funny, so you should tune in. And there’s going to be lots of surprises that I don’t want to ruin by telling you what they are. There’s going to be a kidnapping!

Uh oh.
GG: I can’t say [more]. But there’s going to be a kidnapping.

Okay. Aside from Greyson’s appearance, will we be getting any more flashback episodes?
GG: There’s going to be some flashbacks, yep. [One of our first episodes] has a lot of flashbacks in it. So yes.

Will Jimmy be in his goth makeup again? Because that was amazing.
GG: [Laughs] We may see him in goth makeup a little later in the season. There is one thought about why we might see him in that again but we haven’t figured that one out yet.

Are there any guest stars that you really want to get on the show? Or people you’d want to come back?
GG: I know Ethan Suplee’s coming back for one episode, if not more. Jaime [Pressly] did an episode but she’s got her own show now. Eddie Steeples will be coming back. I know he’s in one episode. You know, Jason [Lee] did an episode last year and that Smokey character is a little bit of a puzzle to get [him] back on the show somehow but you never know.

Any chance we’ll see Bijou Phillips again as baby Hope’s dead mother?
GG: Um, yeah. In fact, we have a Christmas episode where I believe you see Bijou.

Will you be tuning in to the season premiere of RAISING HOPE tonight on Fox at 9:30 PM?

I totally agree that, even if you didn’t watch season one (and you should!) that it’s worth tuning in for season two. There is some character development, but the show is episodic enough that any new-time viewer should have little to no problems catching up with the great and crazy family! 🙂

Love this show! They should get Kirstie Alley. She would be hilarious!

More Kate /Shelly songs. I would love to see an episode klashing back to Shelly and Jimmys first hook up.

I love this show, just watched the whole first season in one day over the weekend and feel in love like Earl. I hated to see Earl go but this is a nice replacement, plus with guest spots from characters from Earl made it feel like home. Keep it up and thanks for the laughs.
