GLEE Spoilers: “I Am Unicorn” Teasers

September 23, 2011 by

I just had the chance to screen “I am Unicorn”, this Tuesday’s episode of GLEE. There was a small (very small) part of me that didn’t want to watch the episode early as it meant that I would have to wait that much longer for episode 3. But I quickly got over that and pressed PLAY.

Before we get started…

My fellow die-hard GLEEks are a passionate bunch, this I know. So I think it’s only fair to set your expectations that this post – in the words of Quinn Fabray –  is all about the teasin’ and not necessarily the pleasin’. While I hope to share a few tidbits that will get you more excited about next week’s episode I’m not about spoiling major plot points for you.

If you are the type of fan that is going to be annoyed with me for not spilling everything there is to know, (yes, I’m talking to those of you on Tumblr who wanted to kill my first born earlier today) then it’s probably best that you NOT read this and just wait to watch the episode yourself on Tuesday.

On the other hand, if you are a fan that has a wavering line when it comes to what constitutes a spoiler, then you might want to stay away too as it’s not my intention to ruin the episode in any capacity for you.

With those caveats and disclaimers out of the way, let’s talk about “I Am Unicorn”.

  • There are only three musical numbers in this week’s episode.  I’m not going to name the songs here, but GLEE has already released all three tunes and they are available online if you’re interested in listening to them. I can tell you that the two solos are performed by Kurt and Blaine, during their auditions for ‘West Side Story’. The final song is a duet between Rachel and Shelby. While all three performances are spectacular, the Lea Michele/Idina Menzel song blew my bobbysocks right off! For me, it was one of the single best musical moments of GLEE to date.
  • Shelby is back. And she has Beth with her (which really shouldn’t be spoiler to most given that she is her adoptive mother).  Shelby’s return has a direct impact on the behavior of Quinn and Puck. Dianna Agron and Mark Salling have some of their best scenes to date.
  • To me there are a few things better than a Burt/Kurt heart-to-heart chat. If you dig this fantastic father/son relationship then you won’t be disappointed.
  • It will be revealed, with no uncertain terms, whether Blaine Anderson is a Junior or a Senior. The aforementioned Tumblr threats I received were directly related to this tease. If you’re a fan of Blaine/Darren there really isn’t a downside to his grade status. If he’s a senior then maybe he will ride off into the sunset (and into a spinoff) with Kurt post graduation. If Blaine is a junior then we have Darren Criss in our living rooms every week on GLEE for all of next year. Either way…win! (And someone else has already spoiled it online,  so go find it.)
  • For those of you who follow Chris Colfer on Twitter, this is the week he does some of those death-defying stunts he tweeted about.  And if you know of one of Chris’s unique off-screen (and dangerous) talents, then be prepared to see him demonstrate his skills on the episode this week.
  • Mike Chang in a tank top. Sleep on that visual until Tuesday.
  • Did you know Finn has a job? He does and we will see him at work. We will also see Rachel visit him at work. It’s nice to see those two adorably in love and smooching again. (You know, at the appropriate time rather than on stage in front of hundreds.)
  • Be prepared for a very heated moment between Will and Quinn.  Becky wasn’t the only one that thought it was HOT!
  • You will hear Kurt Hummel like you have NEVER heard him before. And I’m not talking about a song and dance number.
  • Brittany and Santana share a sweet scene. I know there is a contingent of you that just wants to see them get it on, but there is something fantastic about small moments, too.
  • Again, I don’t want to spoil major plotlines, but if you heard rumors about Shelby’s reason for coming to McKinley, then know the rumors are true.  The reason for her arrival make me want to roll my eyes something fierce.
  • This week’s episode ends on something of a cliffhanger. An emotional cliffhanger.

So that’s that.

I may be open to answering some questions from the comments below, but I can’t promise to answer them all, and I won’t answer anything that might be considered a major spoiler for others.

Dare I say it…the comments are open.

I LOVE FINN AND RACHEL!!! YAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY Best article ever…

  2. Michelle on September 23rd, 2011 3:10 pm

What do Rachel and Finn talk about in the garage?? And the cliffhanger – does it have to do with Quinn and Puck!?

  3. Kristin on September 23rd, 2011 3:13 pm

How was the Puck/Quinn/Shelby storyline? And does the cliffhanger deal with Beth/Shelby?

    Thanks for the teasers!

  4. Sadie on September 23rd, 2011 3:17 pm

I’m peeved that Finn still hasn’t had any major screentime but at least there is still titbits for me to enjoy. I’m glad to see that him and Rachel are finally settled but I miss him having a big part in episodes.

  5. Megs on September 23rd, 2011 3:18 pm

Any signs of the glee project winners?

  6. marilou on September 23rd, 2011 3:22 pm

Thank you!! I love the Finn&Rachel moments!! 🙂

  7. confused on September 23rd, 2011 3:26 pm

Wait, what? Will and Quinn have a “very heated” moment?

  8. lily on September 23rd, 2011 3:31 pm

Please tell me that will/quinn fight and it ends with Quinn slapping Will.

  9. Gabi on September 23rd, 2011 3:34 pm

Finn has had no significant storyline yet! THIS IS NOT RIGHT! I wants my Finn Hudson, and I wants him now! BTW, how handsome was he??

  10. Yasmin on September 23rd, 2011 3:41 pm

Is it Kurt being really mean? Cos there is a rumour that either Kurt or Blaine will take the whole competition for a lead role too far…

  11. Lauren on September 23rd, 2011 3:42 pm

I want Brittana to happen, I do. And not to see them get it on or anything like that, I mean come on they never even had a kiss before so I am not expecting much in that regard. What I want, is acknowledgement of what happened last season. We see that Kurt is gay in almost every scene that he’s in, yet the general audience is left to forget that Santana is a lesbian and Britt a bisexual and that they’re in love with each other. How hard is it to throw in a few looks that could clue everyone in.

Good god. I already hate that everyone around me sees me and my sexuality as a joke or they simply just ignore what I am, I feel even more suffocated when I see why on TV.

  12. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 3:43 pm

@michelle – In the garage Finn and Rachel talk a little bit about their future plans. But don’t fret…the conversation isn’t really bad. It’s sweet actually.

  13. Jessica on September 23rd, 2011 3:43 pm

Quinn & Will don’t have a scene together. I am pretty sure you mean Puck and Quinn, right?

  14. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 3:44 pm

@Kristin – Quinn and Puck aren’t involved in the final scene “cliffhanger” (and I worry about the use of that word as it’s not a true cliffhanger), but Quick do have a little cliffhanger of their own.

  15. Frank on September 23rd, 2011 3:44 pm

Dianna is such a boring actor and this storyline urgh.

  16. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 3:45 pm

@Megs- No GLEE project winners in this episode. Damian will join the show in ep 4.

  17. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 3:46 pm

@Confused & @Lily – Get your minds out of the gutter..ha! Sorry for any confusion about the Quinn and Will moments. It’s not sexually heated at all. Just heated. No slapping occurs. I think Quinn reserves her bitch slaps for Rachel, no?

  18. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 3:47 pm

@Jessica – Quinn and Will definitely have a scene together in the next episode.

  19. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 3:48 pm

LOTS of email question about Kurt and Blaine having a big fight or something. The boys do NOT have a big fight in this episode.

  20. Jenna on September 23rd, 2011 3:50 pm

    Hiya Kath!

Will we see any Finchel outside of the garage scene? Anything? Background PDA? Haha.

  21. Toni on September 23rd, 2011 3:56 pm

Did you enjoy the Shelby/Quinn/Puck/Beth stuff? And, is the cliffhanger for quinn/puck good, bad, or eh?

Thanks for the article, your awesome.

  22. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 3:59 pm

@Toni – I really enjoyed the Quinn/Puck/Shelby/Beth stuff…for me personally, mostly because of what Mark Salling brought to the table.

Honestly, I don’t know if I can categorize the Quick stuff as good or bad, but it certainly left me feeling a bit uneasy. (Oh lord, I’m sure I pissed someone off.)

I know I’m teasing a ton, but reading tweets from others who are flat out spoiling big parts of the episode…yeah, I’m feeling comfortable with my teases.

  23. Amanda on September 23rd, 2011 3:59 pm

I second the question about the Quick “cliffhanger” being good or bad! We’ve had so little hope for a year and half, anything would be good to know!

  24. tina on September 23rd, 2011 3:59 pm

    i hate FINCHEL sooooooo much

  25. Hamble on September 23rd, 2011 4:01 pm

I’m a huge fan of Kurt, of Blaine, and of Klaine. I took it on the chin when mentor Blaine, cast and introduced as a character older than Kurt, was gently ret-conned into being the same age as Kurt when the role took off. Then we had our Big Loud Glee Summer and Ryan Murphy Altar of Realism. Rachel and Kurt were cast upon said Altar of Realism, along with Finn. I’ve been predicting that the producers are such cynical b******s that they would try to pass off Blaine as a junior. I fully expected it, but I’m still disappointed, angry and quite disgusted by the ploy. It will *not* make me watch a show without Kurt. And, for this Blaine fan, I’m afraid there is no upside. Huge, HUGE miscalculation by this production. And the icing on the cake is Kurt encouraging Blaine to transfer into McKinley, buggering off to New York and leaving Blaine behind to fend for himself at McKinley. Super. Just super. But thank you for sharing the spoilers. The producers have done their worst and when Kurt is outie, I am too.

  26. Sarah on September 23rd, 2011 4:02 pm

oh no, what do you mean by uneasy? does it have anything to do with them maybe teaming up to get beth back?

also re: spoilers, if people don’t want to know, they shouldn’t read 🙂

  27. Michelle on September 23rd, 2011 4:02 pm

Kath – you make me so happy – thank you.. Finn and Rachel are the show for me and the only reason I continue to stick around. The Finn and RAchel fans so appreciate your commentary. I can not wait for the scene!

  28. Kate on September 23rd, 2011 4:04 pm

I heard that there was a Kurt and Brittany scene where they talk about sexuality. Does Brittany clue Kurt in on hers or her relationship with Santana, heck the lack of it? Like, anything?

Thank you for sharing all these tho, it is much appreciated. 🙂 Have a great day!

  29. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 4:06 pm

@Kate – There were a noticeable amount of mentions about how very gay Kurt is. Some were humorous, a few more serious in nature. Brittany does make a small comment in passing (really not a focal point) about being a unicorn or perhaps a bicorn — I might have her quote wrong, so please don’t quote me. Nothing overt about Brit’s sexuality. But HeMo was ADORABLE in this episode.

  30. Lauren on September 23rd, 2011 4:08 pm

Yeah, there are rumors that quinn/puck want to get Beth back and plan it out.

    Thanks again!

  31. Norma on September 23rd, 2011 4:09 pm

Do we see Kurt or Burt with Finn at the garage or is it just Rachel there? It feels like the writers forgot the Hudson/Hummel wedding.

  32. Jamie on September 23rd, 2011 4:10 pm

do puck & quinn get along?

  33. Lulu on September 23rd, 2011 4:11 pm

Does the little Quinn and Puck “cliffhanger” suggest that they will have more scenes in upcoming episodes?

  34. milly on September 23rd, 2011 4:12 pm

Thank you! Question — Was there much for Klaine shippers in the ep? Someone said they have a moment during dance rehearsal, but other than that? 🙂

  35. Jen on September 23rd, 2011 4:12 pm

Are there any scenes or interaction between Puck and Rachel?

  36. jim on September 23rd, 2011 4:17 pm

puck and rachel – you are 2000 and LATE! that ship has sank!! YAY QUINN AND PUCK!! NOW THAT IS CANON!

  37. Karen on September 23rd, 2011 4:17 pm

As long as they keep sticking Finn behind that drum set and not trying to move his feet and shake his hips at the same time it’s all good !

  38. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 4:18 pm

@Milly – Not too much Klaine (sad). Darren was very busy filming his movie with Kristen Wiig in NYC during eps 2 & 3. Pure speculation, but I wouldn’t expect to see him a ton next in ep 3 either. Here’s to hoping I’m wrong.

  39. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 4:21 pm

@Karen – My favorite commenter EVER! Ha ha! Hi sister 🙂 Finn does get his dancing feet together in this ep. Big applause!

Building on that tension between Finn and Blaine last week. You know I’m just waiting on the writers to give us a scene where Blaine one-ups Finn with his drumming skills. Cory is one hell of a drummer, but Darren…damn!

(And ladies and gents, this is about the time my big sister starts once again planning the much talked about Crisservention)

P.S. Karen – Emma can watch the show without supervision again next week. Nothing scandalous in there at all.

  40. elgin on September 23rd, 2011 4:26 pm

I love Darren/Blaine, but I want him and Kurt’s characters together, so there is no upside to him being left behind (for the sake of itunes sales).

I was worried about Blaine saying unsupportive things to Kurt about auditioning or about Blaine/Rachel interaction for the play upsetting Kurt, like Blame it on the Alcohol revisited. Is Blaine generally supportive of Kurt, or is he one of the people who is insensitive or typecasts him? Is it really competitive between them?

  41. elgin on September 23rd, 2011 4:28 pm

p.s. What does this episode have to do with unicorns? Is this the episode we heard about with all the female extras in the gym?

  42. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 4:28 pm

I will say this about Kurt and Blaine with regards to the auditions. Blaine is a VERY good boyfriend in this episode.

  43. Tony on September 23rd, 2011 4:31 pm

Is it better than last week episode or worse?

  44. elgin on September 23rd, 2011 4:33 pm

A good boyfriend! Thank the LORD! I was worried about them overdoing the rivalry stuff and making Blaine the bad guy. I know they’re supposed to be competing in the duets episode or something, so I hoped they’d have each other’s backs about the play.

(I’m going through the stages of grief about Blaine possibly being a junior, don’t think I’ll ever reach acceptance if it’s true.)

  45. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 23rd, 2011 4:45 pm

@Tony – You asked if the episode was better or worse than last week’s episode. It’s really hard to answer that. I LOVED last week’s ep (as noted by my glowing review –https://www.givememyremote.com/remote/2011/09/16/glee-season-3-premiere-the-purple-piano-project-you-ask-i-answer/) but I read many other reviews where the writer hated the episode.

I will say that I really liked this episode. It feels like what I want GLEE to be. What worked last week for me and what I see continuing this week is the writers focus on telling stories. Serving their characters storyarcs and not backing characters into actions based on what songs were contracted for a particular episode. Does that make sense?

Big episode on Kurt in these first two episodes (you won’t hear a complaint from me there as I worship at the alter of Colfer) but I think other stories and characters will have their time to shine. I will say I really loved the stuff they gave Kurt in this episode!!

  46. tia on September 23rd, 2011 4:51 pm

anything else you can tell us about puck and quinn? thanks so much for the info!

  47. Sean on September 23rd, 2011 4:52 pm

Glad to see Dianna and Mark bringing it. Would you say that Puck/Quinn were “friendly” in their interactions?

  48. Claire on September 23rd, 2011 4:54 pm

Is it addressed that Puck and Quinn barely spoke last season?

  49. Jamie on September 23rd, 2011 4:55 pm

Any Will and Emma in the episode?

  50. Hamble on September 23rd, 2011 5:18 pm

Is Kurt an equally good boyfriend to Blaine? And would you say this is an episode where Kurt learns and grows, rather than being crushed because making Chris Colfer suffer beautifully is like crack to the writers?

  51. Jenny on September 23rd, 2011 5:32 pm

Thanks so much for sharing this all with us. With the episode revealing if Blaine is a junior or a senior, was there any sense of it creating an issue between Kurt and Blaine? I guess maybe it’s inevitable that it will by the end of the season though.

Really looking forward to everything Quick/Shelby/Beth which doesn’t seem a popular opinion to most unfortunately.

  52. Maria on September 23rd, 2011 7:20 pm

Well I (and I’m sure most of the Brittana fans) don’t exactly just purely want to see them “get it on”, so I don’t like how that’s phrased. But thank you for this! I’m glad they have a scene. 🙂

  53. Mickey on September 23rd, 2011 8:49 pm

Im pretty sure the brittana fans don’t just want to see them “get it on”. We would like to see them treated like every other couple on glee instead of getting one or two scenes together while everyone else are constantly together in every episode. They are put in the background like their relationship doesn’t matter because they aren’t out and that is ridiculous. Kurt and Blaine always have private scenes just to show their affection why cant Santana and Brittany have that. They have never even had a real kiss on the show while everybody else has made out with at least two different people already. It’s obvious they wouldn’t be able to be in public but that doesn’t mean their relationship should be forgotten about.

  54. Renata on September 23rd, 2011 8:58 pm

Oh, hi, I haven’t heard of this site before… so Tumblr madness isn’t completely useless.

I loved the way you teased us without giving us real spoilers (if you know what I mean), it’s the exact kind of thing I like to read before the episode (yet, so hard to find… I usually have to walk in eggshells in this regard).

Can you clue us if the sex riot of the usual ep2 of the season was forgotten?

  55. Katie on September 23rd, 2011 9:02 pm

    I LOVE QUINN
when will she get back on new directions
and i really want her back to being the girly girl without all the punkish look
    and i really want quick

  56. Acog on September 24th, 2011 3:37 am

What’s with the lecturing towards Brittana fans? Why are you dismissing the fans of the pairing as lechs or something?

“Something fantastic about small moments”? Give me a break! There’s been nothing but for two seasons now, while it took like 10 episodes for Klaine to become a couple. Double standards, much?

  57. Milly on September 24th, 2011 6:28 am

Hi! Thanks for this.. Your awesome!! Can you please give some info on the ‘heated moment’ between Quinn and Will? Like, do they fight or is it like, sexual??

  58. Abby on September 24th, 2011 8:44 am

    Hi, sorry to bother you.

But do you know what the Rachel and Santana scene is about? I heard that there was one.

    Thank you!

  59. Lily on September 24th, 2011 9:12 am

    Hey!

Don’t know if you are still reading the comments or not. Thank you for writing down the spoilers.

I have a question if you are still answering them that is. Is the small Brittany/Santana scene the one we saw in the preview? The one in the classroom with the capitol of Ohio question.

    Thanks.

  60. Kath (@GMMRtv) on September 24th, 2011 1:03 pm

Breath Brit/Santana fans – Believe me, I wasn’t trying to be rude to the shipdom. I heart those lovely ladies too, it was just sarcasm.

The Will/Quinn scene was a heated confrontation – no funny business.

I also just posted this tidbit on my Tumblr page so I wanted to share it here too:

When watching “I Am Unicorn” on Tuesday, pay special attention to the dialog between Burt and Kurt. The writers baked a little nod to Chris Colfer’s projects outside of GLEE. I’m pretty sure it was intentional. And in my opinion it’s one of the reasons Chris is so fantastic in this episode.

  61. Jenny on September 24th, 2011 2:01 pm

Is the Brittana scene in private and about them or is it about how awesome Kurt is? Like everything else on this show.

  62. minnie on September 24th, 2011 2:21 pm

Why do you think there’s so little Finn in the first two episodes? (Compared to other episodes that is, isn’t he supposed to be one of the main characters?) Do you think this will be a trend in the future storytelling? Are they really scaling Finn down because of the rumoured friction between Cory and Ryan Murphy?

  63. Kath Skerry on September 24th, 2011 2:30 pm

@Minnie – 100% pure speculation on my part, but I have a feeling Cory/Finn will have his time to shine. I think Finn will have a more focused storyline sometime this season. Right now there is a big focus on Rachel and Kurt AND Quinn and Puck, but I think all the seniors will have their own moment in the sun as the season progresses.

  64. Shelley on September 24th, 2011 2:56 pm

Love the Finchel news. Puck and Quinn lots of good scenes awesome. Will and Quinn wonder what’s that about? Blaine a great showman but best as Kurt’s boyfriend. Have heard the cast of the play is not happy so it seems to me that those chosen were not with their hopeful significant others in roles opposite them. ex Finn/Rachel Mercedes/Kurt Heard One Hand One Heart might be a song episode 5. Thanx for the news

  65. KLAINE TRAIN on September 25th, 2011 9:44 am

Look i know everybody’s all crazy about the whole blaines a junior thing…but honestly did RM say that he was a junior??? Remember when the hottest rumor was lea, cory, and chris wouldn’t be in season 4. Well RM told everybody it was a misunderstanding…..the way i see it is if he really is a junior and their keeping him for itunes sales….nobody’s going to watch the show without kurt, i mean there is no klaine without kurt… Plus in new york kurt said he talked to blaine and he was “on board” with going to colledge in NY. Honestly i won’t like the show if he’s a junior. And i’m hoping for a good BF moment :))))

  66. carol on September 25th, 2011 10:14 am

oh, I completely agree with KLAINE TRAIN!

Is there a possibility that Blaine said he is a junior without referring to his age? I mean maybe he said he’s a junior because he meant that he is the newest member of ND and not because he is a year younger?
And are we seeing a klaine moment in this episode?

Thanks for the answers! You are very kind and nice!

P.S. sorry for the bad english but i’m italian! ^^

  67. Shelley on September 25th, 2011 4:29 pm

It just makes me wonder if Blaine were a junior then RIB would have their cake and eat it too so to speak. A cash cow for this season and further. Lea was the star of the ND s1 and into s2. Now with Blaine and Rachel Nationalswin would be a sure thing. Blaine would be their star next season. As for Blaine’s popularity I agree that the Klaine fandom craze is because of Kurt’s so lovable and relatible that the Blaine character has taken off because of Kurt. I absolutely love Kurt so I love Klaine. Darren is a wonderful showman and performer but doesn’t have the acting spark that Chris has. Chris Colfer just makes him look good in their scenes. As for Finn’s story I hope they take it slow and let Finn characer grow this season not just throw a storyline in 2 or 3 episodes. Then have a forced conclusion. As for Puck whom I’ve missed so glad there is going to be genuine feelings brought out for him with Quinn storyline. As much as I liked Zizes, Puck going with her was a stretch I couldn’t fathom. As always thanx for the info.

  68. Teigan on September 26th, 2011 1:59 am

In all honesty, I can’t see how Blaine could be a junior… I mean it has been suggested that he was older, then the same age.. so??

  69. Dallas Fox on September 27th, 2011 7:22 am

Finn has yet to even sing to have his voice heard.. It sucks! He’s amazing! I’m ready for episode four to see Damian! Yes, Blaine’s a Junior. So is Artie! Yay! (:

  70. Desiree Grubell on September 28th, 2011 8:30 pm

I think that I saw a side of Kurt I had never seen before. I don’t know what was going on with him wanting the lead in West Side Story so badly that he kind of went all out at his audition. I thought the Romeo and Juliet part that he and Rachel did was so funny and cute. I hope that they get into that peforming arts school.
