About Last Night…CASTLE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, GOSSIP GIRL, HOUSE and More

October 11, 2011 by

Given how much good TV is on every night, sometimes a girl just wants to talk about what she watched in more than 140 characters. (Sorry, Twitter!) So in honor of that, we’re bringing back one of my favorite former features of Give Me My Remote, About Last Night.

What will we be doing for About Last Night? Basically, I’ll share my thoughts about what went down on the TV shows I watched the previous night and then open the floor for you guys to have your say in the comments. Hopefully, we’ll be watching some similar shows and we can debate/gush/rant/continue the conversation.

Sound good? Let’s talk Monday night TV!

As much as I’ve been enjoying HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, I’m kind of creeped out about Robin dating her former therapist. Kal Penn (Kevin) is awesome, but just a week ago, she was spilling her guts to him about her feelings for Barney and all the destructive things she was doing to try and get him back and now — they’re dating? Just…no. And I solemnly swear I’m not just saying that because it’s so obvious Barney and Robin need to get back together already.

The baby daddy drama seems to be over on GOSSIP GIRL, but poor Louis was the last to find out his bride-to-be is pregnant. Out of the potential daddies-to-be, he was the one I cared about the least…and I found myself unexpectedly sympathetic for Chuck, who finally felt something when Blair told him she was pregnant with her fiance’s kid. (But Blair noting her morning sickness was over — a hint that she’s further along than we thought? Or a meaningless throwaway line I’m paying too much attention to?) P.S. Lily plays Angry Birds? That’s kind of amazing. (And I’m so happy she’s through with house arrest so she can be adorable with Rufus all over the city.)

Foreman being the new Dean of Medicine on HOUSE is unsurprising and predictable, but at least makes more sense to me than Andy’s promotion on THE OFFICE. (Three episodes in and I still don’t think it was the right choice…but I’m sure we’ll get to that on Thursday.)

My big problem with the show right now is that things are so drastically different and I don’t know if I care about HOUSE 2.0 — but yet if things weren’t different, I’d be equally as frustrated. Even if Lisa Edelstein (Cuddy) hadn’t left the series, there is no way Cuddy should have willingly let House work with her again after he drove his car into her home. Wilson shouldn’t welcome House back with open arms, because what House did isn’t easily forgivable. Chase, Taub and 13 shouldn’t have stuck around for a year without a boss. And yet House’s relationships with Cuddy, Wilson and his team was a huge part of what made the show enjoyable. Without them — yes, I realize Taub and Chase will be returning soon, and 13 will pop back in before Olivia Wilde resumes her movie career — we have a character who is brilliant, but keeps regressing every time he makes any sort of growth as a human. I’m not sure how much more of that I want to watch.

Something I am fully committed to? HART OF DIXIE. My goodness, I adore that show. It was a little weird to watch “Gumbo & Glory” since I’ve already viewed next week’s episode, but it was great to see how Didi was introduced to the series and how Brick and Zoe found peace. As for that Didi/Levon/Lemon/George/Zoe/Wade love polygon, I’m genuinely torn about who I’m rooting to end up with whom at this point. That’s definitely a sign they’re doing something right.

CASTLE generally focuses on Castle, Beckett or their relationship, but Monday’s episode let Seamus Dever’s Ryan do most of the heavy lifting when the gun 3XK stole from Ryan turned up in a murder investigation. While it wasn’t the follow-up to the 3XK arc I would have hoped for (and I’m blaming PAN AM — where Michael Mosley (Jerry Tyson/3XK) is currently tied up — for that), there is no doubt Dever stepped up to the occasion and shined.

Sorry, TERRA NOVA. I meant to watch you, but there just was no time. Maybe you’ll make the cut next week.

So tell me…what did you think of last night’s television? What show stood out to you?

I’m really liking Hart of Dixie! Too cute! I wasn’t even going to give it a try because of the southern accents (um, Lemon) that just go way over the top. Pet peeve of mine. I read a review on here, though, that made it sound good. Love it. Love it more each week.

Also, Castle! I heart all of them – but, last night, especially Ryan. He made my heart sad.

Didn’t quite get to Hawaii 5-0, but did watch 2 Broke Girls. It was cute.

    Loving the About Last Night!

I am loving Hart of Dixie. Also, a pretty solid Gossip Girl. Ended up with RHoBH. Good night.

Love that this feature is back up and running Marisa!

Haven’t watched Hart of Dixie yet but agree with you on HIMYM…it’s kind of creepy to date your therapist. And, is it just me, or something up with Robin’s wardrobe this season? The last couple of shows she’s been wearing unflattering, almost asexual shirts and blouses with ugly patterns and collars button way up to there! I thought it was just going to be the one episode when they were talking about Lily’s “pregnancy boobs” (i.e. cover up Robin’s so Lily’s look better) but the trend seems to be continuing. (Acknowledging that this could just be me!)

I thought last night’s Castle was EPIC but I agree that it wasn’t the chapter of 3XK that we were be expecting…and I think that might be a good thing. Marlowe veered us off in to a very interesting direction with this storyline instead of a more obvious one AND there is still the possibility for “more to the story”, hopefully with Mosley grounded so he can continue the 3XK saga in the future!

Glad so many of you are loving HART OF DIXIE!! It is just joyful, isn’t it?

@Kath: That is an interesting point re: Robin’s wardrobe. I noticed she looked different, but didn’t think about it in relation to Lily. Wonder if there is a reason why…?

Let me run through them in order of how I watched (backward to you guys probably!)

Castle was…brilliant. I loved that this gave Ryan (Seamus) his moment to shine, and shine he did. While it wasn’t quite how I thought the 3XK SL would continue, I still found it thoroughly entertaining and I’m hoping this means we’ll get another episode focused on it soon…or TV soon, so that could be this series or in another 2! As long as we get it I don’t really care 😀

Plus, I loved Ryan getting all up in the narcottic’s cops face while Espisito stood back and watched. That’s what partners are for people! LOL

I really really enjoyed Gossip Girl too. Chuck is just…lovely. He’s all broken and it just makes me want to fix him! (Among other things 😉 ) The scene at the end kinda slayed me…as I said on twitter, he’s much too pretty to be sad. But plus side, how cute is his dog?

Charlie annoys me, so I’m not thrilled with her return. Just leave already! But, Rufus and Lily are back to being cute as hell so that softened the blow slighty.

Re Blair and the baby…I took from the final scenes with her and Louis that she hadn’t really read the DNA results? Or she lied? Because 1) She hid the letter 2)She looked suspicious as hell!

Maybe she just hid it so Louis didn’t know there was any question it was his? But, wouldn’t she just get rid of it then if it’s no longer needed? Unless, it really is Chuck’s? Or maybe this is a whole lot of wishful thinking on my part because I really really wanted it to be Chuck’s!! Louis’s nice and all, but Chuck and Blaire for the win!

And Hart of Dixie is my new guilty pleasure. I find Rachel Bilson kinda adorable, and have done since her OC days. Plus, there’s plenty of cute guys galore!

Like you I’m torn about who goes with who (though no one should go with Lemon. I mean, for one thing her name is Lemon. Plus, she’s kind of a cow so she should die alone. Not that I’m judgemental at all!)

George is kind of pathetic so I’m not really rooting for him. I’m torn between Zoe/Wade and Zoe/Levon. The cooking thing from Wade was cute, but Levon is…Levon. And he’s lovely and cute and….awwwwwwwww. OK…looks like I’m rooting for Levon! LOL

Which is a shame, seeing as that doesn’t seem to be the way things are going. Wishful thinking…again!

Laffers18 – Did you note the smile on Esposito’s face? Brilliant!!

  7. Laffers18 on October 11th, 2011 4:51 pm

Kath – Yes I did! He had the best smirk on his face. Jon (Huertas) has some of the greatest facial expressions.

@Laffers18: They definitely showed her opening up the paper so she certainly opened it. Whether she lied or not, that’s another story. I’m still half-convinced it’s Dan’s 😉
