About Last Night…THE WALKING DEAD, THE X FACTOR, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, and More

October 17, 2011 by

When did Sunday night television get so crazy? Between all of the shows I watched last night, it was nearly 7 hours of programming. What a way to kick off the week, right?

So what ended up on my TiVo?

THE X FACTOR‘s “Judges’ Homes” round lasted too long as far as I’m concerned: so far, we’re at four hours of performances and we don’t even know which acts made it through! As much as I love THE X FACTOR, this has felt like THE VOICE’s “battle round” — interesting in theory, but drawn out too long. With that being said, Melanie and Rachel were amazing, plus I was surprised by how well the judges-formed Intensity meshed together.

My goodness, it was not a good week to be a kid on the THE WALKING DEAD. Poor Carl was accidentally (?) shot and Sophia is MIA after getting chased into the woods by two zombies. Oh, and the gutting of the zombie to make sure he hadn’t eaten Sophia…wow. That was smart and one of the most disgusting things I’ve seen on TV in a bit.

I still love DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, but man, Lynette is just painful. As much as I adore both actors, Tom and Lynette have needed this break for a while, but it’s really bringing out the worst in her. I wasn’t surprised that she tracked down Tom’s new squeeze, but the way she used Penny and dismissed her daughter when she realized what was going on felt rough. Yes, you’re going through a hard time, Lynette, but think of your kids!

I mentioned this last night on Twitter, but PAN AM just isn’t doing it for me. It’s so gorgeous and I do love the era, but something just hasn’t clicked for me. We’re four episodes in and while I remember a few of the characters’ names, I still don’t find myself caring what happens to them.

It feels weird to be thankful for a show being good, but that’s where I’m at with HOMELAND. It’s the best straight-up drama of the season and I’m loving the shades of gray the show lives in. As to where we’re at now, I don’t know if I want to believe Carrie or Scott Brody. On the one hand, Carrie seriously needs the win, especially after her informant was killed. But at the same time, after all Scott went through, I’d like to believe he’s just frakked up in trying to readjust to his new (old) life. Anyone else torn, too?

The only show I didn’t get to finish last night was DEXTER. Sorry, Dex.

Didn’t get to see any “The Good Wife” Marisa? Josh Charles looked sexy hot as usual and there were some interesting little games being played by the characters as well as potential for some upcoming plot twist and turns.

I agree with Pan Am…I keep watching it so I must like it but I can’t say that I love it and won’t be terribly sad if it flies away!

I don’t actually watch THE GOOD WIFE. One of my (not-so-secret) TV shames!

    Marisa,

What happened to a Dexter part? Edward James Olmos is doing a great job as a Seth Lord villian!! The ritualist serial killings that are taking place this season are becoming more interesting and next week looks even better. Seriously, those baby snakes coming out of the guy’s belly in the premiere still creeps me out.

IMO, the producers are showing us Dexter as a man who is deciding how to raise his two year old. There are alot of paths that he has to choose from. It’s sad that we don’t have him partnered up with another adult actor this year instead of his son but it is a little interesting to watch him decide what he does or does not want for his child. Of course they still have him taking care of his ‘dark passenger’ needs every week but it’s not as intense this year.

The main story is Deb this season. It seems Dexter is a taking a backseat to her story but, WOW, it is so totally worth it. They have really exploded her life this season with the promotion and her feelings towards Quinn. I’m really glad to see this because Jennifer Carpenter has always done a great job of Debbie Morgan.
