About Last Night…SUBURGATORY, HAPPY ENDINGS, AMERICAN HORROR STORY and More

October 27, 2011 by

With the World Series rained out, that kind of messed up my Wednesday night television plans. See, as much as I love baseball, with two teams I have very little interest in participating in the series, it would have warranted me flipping in to check the score/tuning in if I heard something good was going on via Twitter.

Instead, we got two GLEE repeats. And despite having new television shows on…I kind of got sucked in, despite not liking one of the episodes.

Sigh.

So let’s talk about Wednesday TV and you can judge me appropriately in the comments, okay?

I’m really happy we finally got to meet Dallas’ husband on SUBURGATORY. Obviously, he wasn’t too thrilled to find George making nice with his wife, and I’m curious to see how the Dallas-George relationship will play out now that they have to be aware that her husband could be lurking around the corner.

As much as I wanted to crazy-love HAPPY ENDINGS‘ Halloween episode, I didn’t. I enjoyed it, and there were certainly some laugh-out-loud moments, but for me, it wasn’t close to last week’s installment. However, Max and Penny’s joint costume was predictably hysterical and Alex being mistaken for a man was appropriately ridiculous. But how did no one realize that Dave was Austin Powers?!

I know it’s “hip” to hate AMERICAN HORROR STORY, but I’m enjoying it. Is it the best show in the history of television? No. Am I getting considerably more concerned about becoming attached to these characters because it certainly seems there is no happy ending possible? Absolutely. But it’s bizarre, fascinating and unlike anything on television, so I’m intrigued. And I’m a little surprised by how upset Constance was over her daughter’s death in Wednesday’s episode — given how often it seemed like she wanted to get rid of her (and how badly she punished/treated her), I would have thought there would be some feeling of relief. But perhaps we’ll see that in the episode’s second part. (For a full recap on the hour, check out what Ben had to say here.)

PSYCH, as per usual, was adorable. I’d imagine it’s boring to hear me gush about it constantly, so I’ll keep it short and say I’m glad we got to see more Lassiter and if you aren’t watching this show…well, why not?!

And yes, I watched GLEE. In hindsight, I regret it, but what can you do?

What did you guys end up watching last night?

I feel the same way that you did about Happy Endings…loved it because it’s Happy Endings but not as stellar an episode as I thought. Having said that: “ZZTop Gun” …best concept costume ever!

I also thoroughly enjoyed the Modern Family Halloween repeat…Mitchell perched on the toilet in his Spider-Man suit is the funniest comedy sight gag since Michael Scott’s duct taped “Survivor Man” pants on The Office!

i actually really really enjoyed last night’s happy endings. i giggled through most of it and was insanely impressed with Zachary Knighton’s Austen Powers impression. (i too don’t get how no one else knew what he was).

See, I loved, loved, loved last night’s Happy Endings. But Suburgatory was the worst episode to date for that show. IMHO.
