About Last Night…MODERN FAMILY, LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, PSYCH and More

Wednesday night TV! Some of the best comedies of the week, the craziest 10 PM hour of my week and so much more.

Let’s talk about what went down last night…

Oh, SUBURGATORY. Noah versus George was amusing (especially George’s concern that Noah hadn’t really forgiven him when he was about to do dental work in George’s mouth), but did the Clarisonic face brush do sponsoring for the episode? If they didn’t, it was super awkward of the writers to so obviously name drop that product.

While Jay trying to dance and Claire ditching Haley were both funny B-plots on MODERN FAMILY (I was a little less fond of Phil’s building the tree house), nothing beat Cam’s attempt to pick up a woman. “The Gift of the Vagi”? Amazing. Hopefully Leslie Mann will be back, because I want to see those friendship dates, especially when Mitchell finds out she was lying about being heartbroken over Cam.

Those staycations on HAPPY ENDINGS looked amazing. Is it bad that my favorite part of the episode might have been the Fred Savage cameo?

Reason 1265 I love PSYCH? The fact that they clearly love their opening credits. This week’s comic book/superhero movie-themed credits had me laughing out loud. And Shawn quoting their theme song mid-episode? So. Good.

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT really has been quite excellent this season. Last night’s episode was so different from what we’re used to — between following the victim, seeing the crime being committed and who did it — and I so appreciated it. The show is in its 13th season, and yet so far the cases are some of the best they’ve ever done. Not sure how I feel about Andre Braugher’s character, but I’m interested to see how they next bring him back.

THE X FACTOR and AMERICAN HORROR STORY are still sitting on my TiVo. Did you enjoy them? (Ben recapped AHS here, if you’d like to weigh in.)
