NBC Moves HARRY’S LAW, UP ALL NIGHT, WHITNEY, Benches COMMUNITY

November 14, 2011 by

NBC is making some significant changes to their midseason lineup, including switching nights for HARRY’S LAW, UP ALL NIGHT and WHITNEY…and bumping COMMUNITY from their schedule.

Note that this is only the schedule for January 2012 until March 2012, so COMMUNITY should be back on the schedule sometime after that. Less clear is the future for PRIME SUSPECT, which will be replaced by THE FIRM starting January 12. (A few other midseason shows, including the new Jason Isaac’s series, AWAKE, are also MIA from the schedule.)

Networks have been consistent in their scheduling practices for at least 2-3 decades. The stupidest scheduling is always (not almost always) what they select. Put your best show opposite another networks best show. It doesn’t get 100% of the market so you drop it. All this while there were dead nights with no competition. You could have gotten 60-100% of the viewers, but chose to use stupid scheduling. Tentatively, putting Harry’s Law on Sunday night sounds OK. It is, however, opposite “Leverage”… a super show on another network. The placement of Harry’s Law could have been better. If everyone watches Leverage, we’ll hear that Harry’s Law flopped while the only thing that really flopped was the network executives who scheduled that show.
