ONCE UPON A TIME: 11 Teases About ‘New York Serenade’

February 18, 2014 by

ONCE UPON A TIME has been off for months (and months and months), but the first episode of 2014 is just around the corner.

I had the chance to view the midseason premiere, “New York Serenade,”and while there are a ton of things that can’t be talked about (yet), here are a few teases to make the wait until March 9th a little easier…

    •    Viewers will see what happens in the minutes leading up to (and immediately after) the former Storybrooke residents arrive in the Enchanted Forest. It doesn’t take long for them to run into familiar faces…and not everyone wants to stay with the group.
•    Hook might not have gotten the response he wanted from Emma post-kiss, but that isn’t the only trick he has up his sleeve to get her to recall her true past.
•    Viewers will first meet Chris Gorham’s Walsh in the midseason premiere, but he’s already a solid presence in the lives of several characters we know.
•    The Wicked Witch (whose name is Zelena, the producers shared) isn’t the focus of the hour, but she does have a pretty delicious introduction.
•    Regina goes to extreme measures to deal with her grief over losing Henry.
•    Belle and Neal have an important exchange about Rumple. Snow, Charming, and Neal also share a moment over losing Emma and Henry.
•    Henry is a little matchmaker.
•    While the flashbacks in the episode are purely about what’s going on in Fairy Tale Land, we do learn a little bit about Emma and Henry’s new life from their comments.
•    Robin Hood sure knows how to make an entrance…
•    “[The] Neverland [arc], we kind of went dark on, because we felt it was heart of darkness to us,” ONCE UPON A TIME co-creator Eddy Kitsis told reporters. “This 11 is, I think, a little lighter, and more wicked. It’s more in the tone of that; it’s more deliciously fun. We’ll have the things that people love about the show, which is heavy emotion, and magic. There are definitely some dark episodes coming up.”
•    Several of the things Kitsis and OUAT co-creator Adam Horowitz teased in this interview come to pass in the show’s first 2014 episode.

What has you most excited?

ONCE UPON A TIME returns Sunday, March 9th at 8 PM on ABC.

I am excited to see Emma getting back home and to her family, and that fact it was Hook who went to find her, he loves her and when you love someone you find them. He did it!

Look forward to Snow and Regina as well, and their scenes.

I can’t wait to see Emma and Henry live in NY. Been dreaming about this moment since season one, so nice to see them finally having normal family interactions. I bet the Snowing/Neal and Neal/Belle scenes is gonna be heartbreaking.

I’m very curious to see how the whole Neal/Emma/Hook “non-triangle” will get resolved, but honestly, the way Adam and Eddy have been telling this particular story the only thing that makes sense to me is Hook and Emma being each other’s true love. And I love said story so much!
Hook and Emma are such complex, partly dark, emotionally intense characters who’ve been through so much pain – it’s like their path in life has been preparing them to “understand each other” all along. For me, Hook and Emma’s story to true love is one of the best on TV for a while now – rooting for them with all my heart!

By the way, I LOVED the Neverland arc because it helped shed so much light on the regular cast. It got so much more character driven thanks to the Neverland arc and I truly appreciate that.
Snow’s secret, Neal’s, Emma’s and particularly Hook’s killed me – all the actors brought their a-game to the echo cave. Wonderful!!
I’m hoping that the Wicked Witch arc will have a similar effect on the main characters and reveal even more about them in the second part of S3.

So excited about Hook! My favorite Pirate is returning in March, and he is why Once Upon A Time is my favorite show. Of course, I’m excited! :o)

I liked the Neverland arc as well… mainly coz it saw more of Emma and who she is.
And the Emma/Hook moments and Charming and Hook being mates.

I cant wait to see what happens now that Hook has found her, and how he will get her home! He is parallalling Henry in taking her back home.

I hope we see more of Regina and Snow interacting
