CHUCK: Zachary Levi, Chris Fedak and Vik Sahay Tease ‘Chuck Versus the Hack Off’

December 9, 2011 by

CHUCK may have just completed filming on their series finale (boo!), but fans still have quite a few episodes left to enjoy before we have to say goodbye to some of our favorite nerds.

So what can you expect from tonight’s brand new episode?

“This Friday’s episode…Zach Levi (Chuck) directed,” executive producer Chris Fedak told a group of reporters earlier this week. “It’s really, really, fun. It’s a really super fun episode…it’s called ‘Chuck Versus the Hack Off’ and there’s not as many hack off jokes as you think. But it’s one of our nerdiest episodes. It’s dynamic, it’s energetic and we have…we learn a bit about Chuck’s backstory and who he was before he met Sarah. A little bit about the hacker that was Chuck.”

And for Levi, the chance to direct again before the show wrapped its run was something he embraced.

“I really enjoyed it,” Levi said. “I always enjoy it, it’s a weird kind of love-hate thing because it’s really hard. It’s only the third episode of television I’ve ever directed, so I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go as a director. But I feel like I was the most learned and applied that knowledge in this episode. Obviously, the more times you do it, the better you do it, hopefully. And I feel like the storyline was a lot of fun. I tried to extrapolate the most fun that I could out of it. Because at heart of it, I really see this show as an action comedy, and I really try to apply that to the episodes that I direct. Really fun stuff. A lot of scenes with characters you wouldn’t normally see together and situations you wouldn’t think they’d be in together. But good heart, fun story, plenty of nudity.”

Yep, you read that right: nudity.

“And that was the thing when I read the script the first time, I was like, ‘How the hell am I supposed to do this? We haven’t done this on the show before, I haven’t really seen this done on television before,'” Levi explained. “I mean, I have [seen it], but it’s…GAME OF THRONES is not really throwing blur boxes on their stuff, and thank God for that. But it’s a fun challenge. And [guest star] Beau Garrett was totally game and totally awesome and totally fun.”

Of course, as fans of COMMUNITY are well aware, tonight’s hour also features a guest spot from Danny Pudi (Abed, on the NBC comedy).

“We’re big COMMUNITY fans, and we just thought it was a character that only Danny Pudi could do,” Fedak said. “So instead of going, ‘Let’s reconceive this and get a different person,’ it was, ‘No, let’s try and get Danny Pudi to do it.’ We used our forces at NBC to trick the COMMUNITY people — or ask them nicely — if we could possibly use him. And he came and he killed it. He’s so very funny.”

But not everyone was so thrilled to have Pudi on CHUCK.

“Whatever,” Vik Sahay (Lester) joked when he was asked about Pudi’s guest spot. “Yes, there is a situation where they bring in a lesser brown guy to try and mimic the Lester game and you know, maybe it snags me a little, it gets to me a little. And when I say me, I mean Lester. I’m fine with that. It’s sort of a tactic that’s used by certain people in the Buy More to lure me.”

Well, we’re certainly intrigued. Will you be watching a brand new episode of CHUCK, tonight at 8 PM on NBC?
