ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE to Continue Online After They Finish ABC Run

Well, this is some good — and completely unexpected — news: the recently canceled ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE will live on post-ABC Daytime.
After the soaps complete their television run, Prospect Park will continue production of both shows and air the series online. As of now, there is no word on which cast members will be continuing on once the shows make the move to the web, but the companies have reached a multi-year deal.

“ABC has licensed its iconic soaps, “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” to Prospect Park, it was announced today by Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group & Janice Marinelli, President, Disney/ABC Domestic Television and Rich Frank & Jeff Kwatinetz of Prospect Park. The exclusive multi-year, multi-platform deal enables the soaps’ stories to continue beyond their finale dates on ABC. ABC will broadcast its final episode of “All My Children” on Friday, September 23rd and will air the final episode of “One Life to Live” in January, 2012.
The licensing agreement, brokered by Disney/ABC Domestic Television Group, enables Prospect Park to continue production of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” beyond their life on ABC. Prospect Park will produce and deliver the two long-running programs to consumers via online formats and additional emerging platforms including internet enabled television sets. Under the terms of the arrangement, the programs will continue to be delivered with the same quality and in the same format and length. Additional details of the new productions and tune-in will be forthcoming from Prospect Park.

Now that there are so many devices available in addition to television sets, viewers are taking advantage of watching shows wherever they are and on any number of devices. The driving force in making the switch and attracting new audiences is to have outstanding programs that people want to watch. We believe that by continuing to produce the shows in their current hour format and with the same quality, viewers will follow the show to our new, online network.”
“‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are iconic pieces of television history that captivated millions of fans since their beginning over 40 years ago,” said Frons. “Each of the shows have made an indelible mark on our culture’s history and informed our consciousness in their own way. We are so glad Prospect Park has assumed the mantel for these shows and that they will continue for the fans.”
Marinelli continued, “From the time the shift in the daytime strategy was announced, our hope was to find a new home for these treasured shows. We are thrilled to license them to Prospect Park so the stories of life in Pine Valley and Llanview can continue to be told for the passionate and loyal fans that enjoy watching each day.”

Prospect Park is a media and production company founded in 2009 by entertainment industry veterans Jeffrey Kwatinetz and former Disney Studios head Rich Frank. Along with successful film and music divisions, the company’s television group has numerous shows in development and breakout network hits airing, including “Royal Pains” and “Wilfred.””

It seems to me these two shows have pretty much run their course. The writing (ever since the writers strike) has declined & turned them into comic strips w/caricatures not characters of any real interest. I also can’t help wondering how many long-time viewers are computer savvy. If this new deal prevents these shows from coming to real conclusions, they will be cheating the fans, perhaps not an unexpected outcome for TV & Disney. But I’m sure they are better than whatever ABC replaces them with.
I have been watching All My Children and One Life to Live for years now. I was floored when I heard they were no longer going to televise them and were ending the shows. How many news shows and reality shows can a person stand! I am glad to hear they are going to continue with the shows on the internet. I just wish the network would reconsider and continue to air the shows on television. It is very difficult to sit at a computer all day and watch your shows. At least the soap operas are entertaining, unlike this other crap on tv. These reality shows are horrible. You wonder why the kids today are so messed up, including the adults. No one has any class anymore. It really is a disgrace.
It’s not about watching tv on the internet all day. The shows are only an hour each. I think it’s a great idea. Nowadays, there are devises that can hook your computer to your tv so that what you watch on the internet can be seen on your tv. I hope it works out because I hate to see AMC end. I look forward to seeing that show every single day and would be lost without it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it works!!
I think it is great to have both of these Soaps continue – however, with an online format – is there agoing to be a monthly charge to view them? To make them more available, with the parent company broker a deal to have them shown on Cable or Satallite for some type of subscription Service. For me it would depend upon the costs. I do thing that the future of TV could be coming form the Internet if the Internet has the space to deliver. I can now hookup my PC or Laptop via a wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver and I have watched some “HD” shows on my big 1080 TV but it does not appear that the resolution is beyond 720 yet. I guess I would add about $2.00 a month to my service to watch some Internet programs that include All My Children, but that would be it and not more. Also, with internet, will there be a way to record a program thru a DVR or will there simply be multible time slots?
The invention of the VCR and the DVR have changed TV forever and has done major harm to the advertisers who sponsor the shows like All My Children, because people just fast forward thru them. Some DVRs can actually be programs to skip the breaks altogether. The industry is forever hurt because of this.

I’ve been watching AMC for 35 years now . It’s the only soap I care to watch and it would break my heart for it to come to an end and not be there any more. So Donna, Dan, and Linda I’m agree with you all the way!!! AMC is my favorite show. And YES I WILL watch it online you can count on it!!!!!!!!!!
I am SO glad to know that there will be somewhere to continue to watch my favorite TV shows, day or night! I began watching these soaps 40 some- odd years ago when I would go stay with my grandma during the day while my mom went to work!
And I so agree with Donna about the reality shows, I don’t watch any of them! I am hoping though that if there is a charge that it will not be too much because I do want so much to continue to watch these shows that I have such a connection with! So PLEASE keep us loyal fans informed on where and how we can continue to watch and not miss an episode!

All my children bringing back faces from the past is great.I was a little bored with some of the story lines,but the old favorites really help.As for One life to live,when Roger Howarth left I was not as interested.I even stopped watching.But I have not really missed an episode just because he is back.He was my favorite Todd and always will be.Now if General Hospital could bring back Laura,then everything would be better.
They’ll never bring back Laura, stupid. She’s on Young and the Restless now.
