About Last Night…GOSSIP GIRL, CASTLE, SMASH, and More

February 7, 2012 by

Holy Monday night TV!

Given how many shows are on Monday nights, surely I can’t be the only one who needs an actual schedule to try and figure out how to fit it all in, right? (Or maybe I am the only one who goes that far…)

Either way, let’s talk about last night’s television!

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER felt frantic versus funny last night. I know they were playing with time and jumping around, but I felt annoyed more than anything else. (And it wasn’t even a Kevin episode!)

HOUSE is generally at its finest when they break their traditional mold, and last night’s episode was no exception. It was my favorite episode of the season so far, but I couldn’t help but wish they had taken it a little further. House apologizing was huge, but it certainly appears like things are going to go back to normal now. I like Chase, but I almost wish they had killed him off or paralyzed him.

THE VOICE makes me happy. It’s really as simple as that. I don’t quite get why so many contestants are picking Christina, but I’m excited to see what other contestants the show has for us.

Look, I know many people were probably annoyed with Blair refusing to accept Chuck or her mother’s help to buy her out of her marriage on GOSSIP GIRL, but as icky as the situation was, she was right. With Chuck, what kind of future would they have if they started again with her “owing” him for buying her freedom? And if her mother sold her company? A disaster. Blair is smart and let’s see if she can figure something out after having a few days to properly plan. However, it’s about time Dan stood up for himself after the way he has helped Blair, because banter is one thing, but being cruel is another. The apology Blair gave him was probably one of their best friendship moments of the series.

Oh, Wade, what did you do? I mean, HART OF DIXIE has never sugar-coated Wade’s more piggish ways, but last night’s behavior was just cruel. I don’t see any logical way how he didn’t just significantly set back his relationship with Zoe. But for me, the biggest parts of the episode involved Lemon and Lavon. Did last night’s episode make any Lemon haters think differently about her? (I’ve always had a weird affection for her, so I’m genuinely curious to know if anyone’s minds changed.) And now Lavon and Lemon’s secret relationship is about to be unleashed!

I know there’s no logical way to go back into the 1940s CASTLE world, but man, that cast did justice to the noir genre. And those clothes! Obviously not the biggest episode of the series, but a fun distraction/break from the norm, right? (Shameless self-promotion: CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe was kind enough to answer a few questions about the episode. Edit: And in case you want to do good/own the actual Blue Butterfly, ABC is auctioning off the necklace!)

I’m really hopeful you guys liked SMASH, especially given how NBC shoved it down everyone’s throat these past few weeks. Personally, I love musicals, so I was in, but that final number solidified it for me. “Let Me Be Your Star” gave me the kind of goosebumps GLEE’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” did all the way back in ’09.

I feel terrible, but I didn’t get to ALCATRAZ last night. I’ll get to it ASAP! (I keep forgetting I’m weeks behind on THE BACHELOR, too. Whoops.)

So, what did you watch last night?

I’m without a DVR for the moment, so I only managed to watch Hart of Dixie and Castle last night (and caught the Smash pilot online).

I’ll admit that Hart of Dixie had me hook, line, and sinker with Wade’s “confession,” so I felt like I was right with Zoe when he turned it into a joke (shock that he’s admitting it, followed by the sinking realization he’s kidding). I’ve warmed up to Lemon ever since we found out more about her mom – glad there’s that extra depth to the character. But I was SO glad she finally stood up to her dad and opened up about finding her mom. That needed to happen.

As for Castle, I loved seeing all the characters as their 1940’s counterparts (especially Ryan and Alexis), and Castle trying to get Ryan to say “boy-o” in the precinct was great, but I’m personally more excited for next week’s two-parter to begin!

Loved everything about Smash – plot, characters, music. Based on the pilot alone, I’m actually Team Ivy for the role of Marilyn (the baseball number absolutely sold me), but I reserve the right to change my mind! The casting seems to be absolutely *spot on* for all of these characters – keeping my fingers crossed for continued high quality story-telling!

Alcatraz does what Fringe should have done: link the female lead to the big plot arc from the start and tell the viewer her backstory.
So we already know what happened to her grandfather and mother, there is the livi ng uncle that gives a link to talk to etc.

We know more about Rebecca in 5 episodes then about Olivia after 80 episodes.

They could have gone the same way after the pilot, Anna Torv made that pilot and was called the new Cate Blanchett, praised by the critics.
In the pilot Broyles and Nina both had an interest in Olivia, there was the uncle with kayak, the question why she had to go to the warehouse.

In comes Jeff Pinkner and he forces her to play a closed off Olivia, only used as FBI agent, go-between, that Olivia is this great character is all thanks to Anna Torvs great acting.
She had to wait until end S2 to get the material she deserves and untill S3 for recognition, first halfs S3, and a fes in second.
But what did we learn about Olivia? Nothing. Well how isolated alone she was/is.
And thanks to Pinkner we are now still stuck with the boring Bishop show, and it looks like we are getting religious as well.

Alcatraz has been set up by a woman and a woman is one of the showrunners as well, what a difference that makes.

Loved “Castle” (naturally!) and loved the necklace so, ummm…does anyone have $2500 I can borrow! 😉

I couldn’t believe what stoopid sexy Wade did and I’ve always been a Zoe/Wade and Levon/Lemon fan…sorry George…so last night’s episode of “Hart of Dixie” left me happy sad!
