GCB: David James Elliott Previews Ripp’s DALLAS-Inspired Costume and Why His Relationship With Carlene is Solid

March 23, 2012 by

It’s time for a costume party this Sunday on a brand new GCB, and naturally the guests are coming dressed as their favorite Texan.

“It’s a pretty funny episode,” David James Elliott (Ripp) told me earlier this week. “Ripp gets dressed up as Larry Hagman. ‘He’s done a lot of good things with quitting smoking and the liver disease and such.’ That’s one of [Ripp’s] lines. He already dresses like Larry Hagman, doesn’t he? So Ripp doesn’t stray far from what he normally wears. That’s as close to a costume as I think he can get…The rest of them are dressed up as more broad characters. But good ol’ Ripp, he has some issues.”

One issue Ripp won’t be having? Major marital drama.

“Carlene and Ripp are…you know what [the writers] said about the characters?” he asked. “They felt that Carlene and Ripp didn’t need a lot of conflict for their relationship to be interesting because it was so almost out of the ordinary. But there is more wacky humor coming between the two of them and mixing it up in our neighborhood and the church. Every episode seems to get funnier and better. We’re never disappointed, really. A talented group of writers.”

Indeed.
