BONES: Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan Preview Season 8 (And Beyond?)

September 5, 2012 by

I know, we’ve given you absolutely nothing on BONES lately, but BONES executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan just hopped on the phone with reporters to tease what’s to come, and I figured you guys wouldn’t mind some of the highlights from that…right?

Yes, they want the show to continue on, too.

If you think you’re the only one pining for a BONES season 9 (and possibly beyond?), think again. Not only was Fox president Kevin Reilly optimistic about BONES’ future (and the stars returning with it), but Hanson and Nathan are as well.

“I think yes, I think so,” Hanson said when asked whether he thought stars Emily Deschanel (Brennan) and David Boreanaz (Booth) would return next season. “They are currently negotiating…we’re pretty confident they will come to an agreement.”

But what about Boreanaz’s tweets indicating otherwise?

“David is a mischievous guy,” Hanson noted. “He loves lobbing hand-grenades out. I think he really gets a kick out of all the stuff that I would try to avoid, which is people hollering on Twitter. David…it’s all part of the game to him. I don’t think there’s any serious angst or vile behind it.”

“The undercurrent over all of David’s tweets or anything he does online or in the press is that he loves doing the show,” Nathan added. “And he’s better than ever in the show and I think he wants to come back as much as we want him back.”

The 150th episode is going to be big…but not exactly in the way you think.

Last time Hanson talked about the 150th episode, he teased an idea he had for the milestone episode. But, alas, the show has gone in a different direction.

“Our 150th episode to air is a weird episode,” Hanson explained. “It’s going to be an episode…where we see everything from the point of view of the victim. It’s been very tricky, it was very tricky to shoot, it could be claustrophobic, and we needed a very, very heart-tugging story so that the person whose death we are solving is an actual character. And it’s a boy. We don’t usually use kids because we can’t laugh, and it’s not a funny episode. It’s an outsider’s view, very single view, of our team at work. And in a way, it shows what the camera doesn’t usually show. How each of our characters interact with our victim when no one else is looking but the victim…Cyndi Lauper is in it as our resident psychic [Avalon] who knows that the victim is watching us and is trying to help find out what the victim needs so they can move on. And it’s not to solve the murder, the victim needs something else before he can move on.”

Hm. The good news is that the episode was already filmed (as part of last year’s bonus crop of episodes), so the producers have already seen a bit of what the hour will look like.

“It’s a very unique,” Nathan said. “How it’s shot, the tone of it, it’s been a real challenge to put together and one of those — a challenge like that gives you the most satisfaction. Not only was it a great script, it was beautifully directed, the actors were terrific and now the visual effects team is working on it, as well as the sound mixers. It’s really a very rich episode and should be unique for the 150th.”

(Given how well the show handles the bizarre episodes — and the ones that are more serious and involve children — I’m really excited to see the final results of this.)

Keep your eye out for episode 8×05.

While we don’t know exactly where episode 8×05 will air in the schedule due to the aforementioned bonus hours, the installment will be an important one for fans of at least one character.

“That’s where we find out who Cam is with which will be a big, big surprise,” Nathan teased. “And Brennan and the squints go up against someone whose entire life is devoted to eliminating evidence and theirs is discovering it, so it’s really spy versus spy.”

Yeah, I kind of want to watch that episode right now, too.

BONES returns Monday, September 17th at 8 PM on Fox.

Please just don’t let it be Clark. Visually, temperamentally and job description-wise, it would not compute.

I can’t really picture her with anyone we know. Maybe they’re bringing back someone from previous seasons. I feel like they’re trying to tell us that even if it’s someone we know, it’s not really someone we see as much as we see Clark… I don’t know.

I think perhaps it’s the dude from the JFK EP. in S5.

Wow the 150th episode sounds epic: it’s always interesting to see the story from the victim’s point of view. “The Lovely Bones” comes to mind; this episode sounds excellent and of course very poignant. The death/murder of a child is all the more tragic. As to who Cam will be involved with; I definitely don’t think it’s Clark-he already has a girlfriend. For some reason, I think it’s Aristoo Vasily. But who knows?! Looking forward to a great season 8-only 10 more days! Woo hoo!

What happen to Cam’s doctor boyfriend, I think they may be bringing him back. They did look good together.

    It’s Jared.
