GLEE: Dean Geyer and Becca Tobin Talk Fan Reaction, Singing, and Season 4

September 13, 2012 by

While GLEE’s a great gig to have, new cast member Dean Geyer (who plays Rachel’s potential love interest, Brody) quickly learned one lesson — Finn and Rachel fans are massively passionate about their favorite duo.

I sat down with Geyer and fellow newbie Becca Tobin (who plays new Cheerio, Kitty), and he explained some of the reactions he’s gotten since he joined the show, plus the duo talked about singing (and dancing) in upcoming episodes, and more!

GLEE premieres tonight at 9 PM on Fox! Will you be tuning in?

much as i would want to give this new guy a chance to show us what he’s got, i sense a bit of an attitude in the way he carries and presents himself. not interested. i just want my finchel back and together again. Finchel Forever.

I agree. Dean can’t fault Finchel shippers for being passionate about something they have invested 3 years into. This suspected love triangle is BS, lazy writing and redundant. I’m sad to say that Dean himself put me off from him and his character, NOT my dedication to Finchel. The main thing was him saying that Finchel needed to be “shaken up” but then immediately admitting he hadn’t watched Season 3 yet. He shouldn’t comment on a year’s worth of story if he didn’t know what happened. Season 3 is what made me believe Finchel’s love was deep and would go the distance. I hope he will be pushing for a mentor/brother type role if he wants to keep his job because he isn’t going to win us Finchel fans over. I see he is already changing his tune from a few weeks ago interviews so he must know the backlash he has been getting. Just give me Finn and Rachel and Kurt in NYC together and I’ll be a happy camper. Happy campers watch shows. Annoyed ones tune out (and watch Grey’s!)

That was a super unimpressive interview. I don’t know what it is about Dean but he really comes across super arrogant. I think that was bad casting, very bad casting.

Completely agree with Jess. Like 1000% agree. Im fast losing interest in the show thanks to the brody storyline and deans slight attitude to the point where I can’t even be bothered to write a detailed comment on how bad this storyline idea is. Not watching, I might when Finn comes back if it starts looking better but I’m not exactly holding my breath right now!

Sorry, Dean. You’re joining a party too far in progress to get a real shot. His character needs to stay in the friend zone. Finchel forever.

They both seem a bit dull. I’d rather see Finn, Rachel and Kurt in NYC than deal with new characters who seem awfully similar to old characters. That’s boring. And I think Glee has fulfilled its love triangle quota. Let’s work on character development in ways that don’t involve cheating or love triangles.

Not digging the vibe on this new guy. Where are the Cory Monteith interviews? Now that guy’s got charisma!

Everything about Dean sounds fake to me. Yeah, I don’t know him but is what looks like to ME.
He said that he was a Finchel fan, but at the same interwiew he said Brody and Rachel are “perfect” for each other. uh uh. Something is wrong here.
Also, I hate this idea of Brody being between Finn and Rachel. After all the lovely things we saw they share in third season that made us believe that their love is much more than just a teenager love they want to throw our face that Brody can be a competition for Finn? Come on! I’ll not accept this. I want Finchel together in NY with Kurt and Santana. No the same old story with third parties.

Every time that Dean open his mouth I like less and less and less.

He must understand that Finchel has many fans, not everyone is the same crazy people, and talking like that of Finchel fans upset me.

  10. Marcela on September 13th, 2012 4:28 pm

To be fair, the interviewer set Dean up for that response haha! I’m not sold on his character, but I’ll reserve judgment until I see the episode. I can only hope that what he and Rachel have is fleeting and swift! Finchel owns my heart, after all 😉

I’m curious to see what the deal with Kitty is. I was a big Quinn Fabray fan and I hope Kitty isn’t a carbon copy of her! Becca seems sweet. I hope I like Brody… kinda doubt it since I think he’s going to stand between Finchel LOL

Class is something you either have or you do not. This guy is pimping himself out his team commenting on all his articles and is not a good representative of the message that glee is about. His pr team is doing major damage control but you are who you are the reason people are upset is this guy who already had the job acted like HE WAS going to be the new hot guy on glee instead of letting his acting do the talking and being polite he went down a road that no glee fan and i mean even the fans that hated finchel can forgive or forget my message stop talking. PS the fact he had to pass a chemistry test to get the role and then him always commenting on the fact he is hot and the chemistry between him and rachel is awesome sounds tacky and dancing with someone sexily does not equate to chemsitry

  13. Dan on September 13th, 2012 4:50 pm

Not really liking new guy. I just want Finn/Santana/Rachel/Kurt in NYC. Now THAT would have been a great show. What we actually have is yet another ‘love’ triangle that has already been done to death. Sigh…

  14. rick on September 13th, 2012 4:51 pm

The guy looks arrogant making all about himself, he character seem a douchebag because it seems like he’s taking advantage of Rachel’s vulnerability to win her over. He need start watching glee since pilot and see this “perfect guy” for Rachel exists and his name is Jesse St. James.

The only character who have my interest is the Jake guy stepbrother from Puckerman and Jacob seem more humble and head on earth.

  15. Zoey on September 13th, 2012 4:55 pm

Completely agree with Jess. Dean has completely turned me off from him and his character and the writers disappointed me with the way they are taking this. I hope it goes differently and Finchel get together soon and they live in New York and Find themselves and their dreams.

  16. Regina on September 13th, 2012 5:25 pm

Dean needs to stop mentioning that twitter stuff like he’s being victimized. Not only that, the way he presents himself as arrogant and full of himself has me turned off of his character even before he’s appeared on screen. He needs to understand that fans are invested in Finn and Rachel because they are the quintessential TV couple and will always root for them.

  17. Bee on September 13th, 2012 7:57 pm

I dont care for Dean or his character for that matter. Fans are not suddenly going to be jumping ship and not root for Finn and Rachel to be together, especially after investing in them for three seasons. Throwing in some new guy with a “hot” body (who’s probably not going to stick around the full season anyways), isnt going to disway me from rooting for Finchel.

  18. Pragmatist on September 18th, 2012 7:21 pm

You’re all ridiculous. Brody was incredibly nice to Rachel and wasn’t creepy or arrogant in the least. Finn has never been much more than a sad-sack with limited talents and mental capacity. I hope the army helps put things in perspective for him. I don’t think he is a very compelling character (it remains to be seen whether or not Brody is). I’m happy to find Rachel in NYC and having a rough time; she needs a reality check as well. Toto, we aren’t in Ohio anymore.
