FRINGE: 9 Things I Want to See Before the Series Ends

November 30, 2012 by

We’re more than halfway through the final season of FRINGE, and during this hiatus (new episodes return next week!), I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’d like to see in these last few installments.

So what made my list? (And no, these are not based spoilers. Merely wishful thinking, though I’d be thrilled if any/all of them come true.) Take a look…

For Peter to have a non-Observery moment with both Olivia and Walter

Image 2 of 9

As Peter's actions are becoming increasingly Observer-influenced (see: his blunt confession about what he did to Olivia), I hope before he goes too far down this road, he has a genuine moment with both his wife and his father. These are two of the core relationships of the show, and whether Peter continues down this path or not, I hope we get to see at least a little glimpse of his humanity.

FRINGE airs Fridays at 9 PM on Fox.

Great list! I agree with most of these, especially kick-ass Olivia being back and Olivia/Peter and Peter/Walter moments!

Wish lists inherently lead to disappointment when they are not met.

I have only 1 wish – that the ending feels honest to the characters and the series. Paramount is proper closure for the characters. Anything beyond will be gravy – like the items you have listed.

One thing I do NOT need to see is the RedVerse again. Their goodbye last season was perfect.

Also agree with your last wish – no time line reset or this season becomes for naught.

Now if someone a certain young Etta from the park 20 years ago ended up with Peter and Olivia in 2036 as the last scene….then yeah!

Darn! Now you got me wishing! 😀

I have several wishes for this end of Fringe. But I’m sure something will happen that I’m not waiting. Provided, that in the last scene, come out, alive and well, Olivia, Walter and Peter, for me, is already sufficiently marvelous, really.

Kick ass Olivia needs to return.

  5. Donna on November 30th, 2012 12:53 pm

Why do people care so much about seeing Sam Weiss again? He was a stock Yoda character who wasn’t all that interesting (just “mysterious” for no good reason).

I don’t really have too many expectations for the finale. I would like it to feel like an “end and a continuation” – leave the fans with something to exercise their imaginations on.

  6. Bilbo on November 30th, 2012 2:05 pm

Well, I have too many wishes for the show, but one grand wish is to have closure for all characters.
And regarding Alterverse, I do not want to see them anymore – they said goodbye and better to leave them. I don’t wanna know anything about Linc and AltOlivia, they as couple seems so wrong to me. And writers destroyed AltOlivia for me by reseting all in season 4. I actually liked AltOlivia in season 3, and just when she got bone to do something regarding helping OurVerse, they destroy all her character development (as others but I do not wanna go there right now…).
I have one question to Linc/AltOliv shippers: is it ok to you that Linc go from OurOliv to ALtOlive? I look that situation like this: I dating one girl who have twin sister, and in one point – girl breaks with me, and I start to dating her twin sister, cuz she is close enough, is this ok? For me, isn’t. That way, Linc and ALtOlive seems fake to me… but that just me.

I am sooooo sick and tired of people complaining about Olivia. It’s quite obvious none of you want to see Peter have his own damn storyline and you want Olivia to do everything while everyone else does NOTHING. I can’t stand Olivia fans, GOD!!!!

  8. Savvybutterlilw on November 30th, 2012 5:42 pm

BTW, this list is so hypocritical. You want Astrid to have a storyline (But I thought OLIVIA should be the only one to do stuff? for her to be the strong kickbutt person she was) and then you say, “”Use all your asset”. why the hell should they? OLIVIA should be the only one to do shit.

  9. kholood on November 30th, 2012 5:48 pm

great i agree with it all but just one more thing (olivia and peter kiss)

  10. Roneo on November 30th, 2012 6:56 pm

Kick-ass Olivia is a must and the real one wish I’d not forgive Fringe not to fulfill.
Although I’m loving her character’s journey, I need to know that the one and only emotional, driven, unstoppable Olivia Dunham FBI girl is still there.

For the rest of the list…..I have no expectations. Let Fringe surprise us. Well…….yes, one. Etta. My mind knows a reset is not good. But my heart wishes that the little blonde will find a way to not be dead.

And count one more vote for a Peter and Olivia kiss….a long, hot one.

  11. AngelMoon Girl on November 30th, 2012 11:38 pm

Yes to all of the above! Also, I’m dying for at least a little glimpse of Peter and Olivia with baby Etta. I’m still a little sad that we skipped so much of the happy, pre-Observers, new family phase. And I just want Etta to be alive again 🙁 Sniiiiffle.

  12. Izz on December 1st, 2012 12:03 am

I agree with most of your list! But one more thing and I know that this will not happen, but I will be super glad to see it, a wedding photo of POlivia with Peter wearing Walter’s purple tux! 🙂 And a beautiful closure for all characters. 🙂

  13. asukar on December 1st, 2012 12:34 am

The only thing I need to see is Astrid having a storyline. I don’t want to see the Alterverse or random characters from previous seasons. I don’t want William Bell to come back if he’s going to be used as a Deus Ex Machina again and above all I don’t want a reset.

  14. Scott on December 2nd, 2012 10:41 am

    I agree Marisa.

  15. Ellen Jane on December 4th, 2012 11:11 am

It’s just puerile to think that your beloved butt-kicking is the be-all and end-all for the development of any woman or, indeed, any human being. Is this all we aspire to, all we admire? Do we really think kicking someone’s butt is the pinnacle of human attainment, the best we can hope for? That it’s a sad and terrible loss for someone to pass beyond butt-kicking? That after butt-kicking there is nothing worth being or doing, so why not just die? Olivia has been profoundly hurt and has become more somber and more thoughtful and more WISE as a result. She hasn’t become vengeful or crazy or obsessive or any of the other things she might have become. She might have grown backwards, or head down like an onion, but instead she’s acquired some real gravitas and is acting like a wise adult. And all this means to you is that she ain’t kickin’ no ass no more? If you admire ass-kicking more than wisdom, I truly pity you.

  16. TJ on December 5th, 2012 12:19 am

That is a bit of an overreaction to a harmless wish, Ellen Jane.

What I am getting tired of is people reacting so harshly whenever someone says they would like to see some of Olivia’s old qualities make a return. She hasn’t become vengeful or crazy? Because she has never been like that. No matter what terrible experiences she goes through she never loses her sense of duty. If anything I have always seen her become more dedicated to her mission after suffering a blow. The path Peter has chosen is one that I would never expect her to go down.

We are not blind to the more subtle and quiet changes taking place in the character but it doesn’t take thirteen whole episodes to explore them. Neither is it the most interesting final arc for someone whose storylines have often been more elaborate and always interconnected with the overarching plot.

She needed some time to adjust to this new world and recover from yet another loss. We get it, are now ready to move on and so is Olivia. Time for the woman who is “no good at sitting around” to finally step up.

  17. Ellen Jane on December 21st, 2012 3:57 pm

First you say you want her old qualities to return, and then you claim it’s time for her to move on. Well, she HAS moved on. She’s grown, as I already said, more wise, more focused. Again, I think that’s a whole lot more interesting (and, god knows, more rare) than continuing to act like an adolescent through one’s entire life. She has absolutely stepped up, but she’s done it like a mature adult. I think it’s sad that you just can’t accept there could be any other way of stepping up to the plate than kicking someone’s ass. But the obsession with violence as a solution to everything has gotten us where we are, and your refusal to let it go (and nostalgic longing for its return when you have to suffer a few episodes of a tv show without someone’s ass being kicked) is certainly not an uncommon attitude.

On #9… the most logical ending given everything they’re thrown in in season 5 is for someone (Michael, September) to go back and correct the original mistake that started this all out – when September distracted Walternate from discovering the cure for the illness for Peter 2 in the original timeline.

That would reset everything back so that there would never need to be a war between the two universes, and would stop the Observers.

The only gotcha is that Peter 2 would never meet Olivia 1, so they have to add in Walter 1 opening the gate anyway and meet Walter 2 on a positive note… opening up the possibility of friendly relationships between Earth 1 and 2.

Or September could ‘show’ Walter 2 the history that’s been changed and he opens the gate to Earth 1 in this variant.
