FRINGE: J.H. Wyman Thanks the Fans

December 13, 2012 by

For FRINGE (and its fans), the journey has never been easy. The further the show dove into its mythology — and the core of what made it so special — the more the series struggled to retain viewers…and remain on air.

Enter the fans.

Sure, no series could be saved by fan love alone (as romantic as that notion might be, it’s still sadly “show business”), but the FRINGE fans raised their voices and got proactive: despite the FRINGE bosses telling them to not worry too much about the ratings, they sent in licorice and created Twitter hashtags to build buzz for the show. (To just name a few things.) And thanks to that, plus support from FRINGE’s network (Fox President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly has been a vocal supporter) and studio (Warner Bros. Television President Peter Roth is a big enough fan of the series that he was able to name his favorite episode/storyline during our interview at the 100th episode event), the cult favorite was able to conclude its story on its own terms.

Since all good things must come to an end, today is the last day of filming for FRINGE. It’s bittersweet and more than a little unreal that the series did reach episode 100, but it felt only fitting that on this day, I share with you FRINGE showrunner J.H. Wyman’s thanks to the fans…

*sniff *sniff, so long Fringe – it’s been great!

  4. T Kruase on December 30th, 2012 5:16 pm

It used to be my favorite show. The past two seasons are so bad. I can hardly keep watching till the end but hate to miss just a few episodes.

  5. Erica on December 30th, 2012 5:21 pm

I will miss you fringe. Definitely one of the greatest shows! :”””'(

  6. Libertarian Woman on December 30th, 2012 5:27 pm

I find it strange that Fringe is going off the air but we still have to find something else to watch while “How I met your mother” is on????

  7. Jerry W. on December 30th, 2012 5:32 pm

Thank you J.H. It’s has been one hell of a run and I appreciate your and the stars efforts in putting forth what I consider a quality show.

I so love this show, I am sad it is going off of TV. It has been the best show on for a very long time. And it may well be a long time before a show of it’s equal comes on TV again. After all, people will watch ‘stupid shows’. Too bad most people have such low standards!!!

Libertarian woman… I couldn’t agree more with your comment. Fringe has challenged my beliefs… my thoughts… it expanded my mind… In the beginning, it gave me chest pains! These last final episodes have moved so far away from its beginnings…. but isn’t that the earmark of a good story? Nothing remains the same, even when we want it to! Farewell my friends… The ony tv I have watched for a very long time has been “Fringe”. I guess I will go back to the pc because everything else sucks on tv and insults our intelligence! It will be a very long time before something is able to replace my all time favorite show…. Walter, Olivia, Astrid, Peter and Nina….. I am so sad to see you go…. I will miss you all for a very long time! By the way…. I gave up date night to spend it with my Fringe family…. I wasn’t thrilled that it moved to another night, but I wasn’t about to abandon them either! Best wishes in your next endeavor…. I do hope to see you all again!!!

Fringe was “must see” TV in our house. Fantastic show with themes and messages which will remain in my heart and soul forever.

JJ Abrams, you are a god! You are the Rod Serling of our generation.

  12. RayW on December 30th, 2012 7:12 pm

Yes, by far one time it was one of my favorite shows on tv. The characters were not only original and unique but it was devoid of the obvious formulaic weekly devices you get on a show. I couldn’t take my eyes off the tv and would be saying ‘holy shit’ when the trade mark amphibian or apple or whatever logo hit the screen to end that episode. It hasn’t been the same in the last few years, time and day changes and trying to keep but I tried my damnedest to remain a loyal subject. Ahh all good things must come to an end.

FRINGE has been a ‘must watch’ in our home. We found it entertaining and thought provoking. Some great writing. I’m not even sure why some are stating the last few seasons as not good. We’ve loved it. Great writing and character developments. We’re actually on our 2nd time around watching via DVD. Our least gave has been this final season! Still hoping this season answers all the questions we have ….

Fringe is a MUST see program. I was there at the start and I have enjoyed and wondered how they can kept coming up with such great materal. The cast was prefect!! We discussed the shows at work and I often found that was I off on the story, but was set straight. I know shows cannot go on forever, but I wish this one could. The show was and will be for a long time öne of a kind”!!

And thanks back … but please, lose that ridiculous haircut – makes you look like a moron.

I am so going to miss Fringe! I really love this show and I hate to see it go off the air.

This is one of the best shows on television. The writing is brilliant and the acting is brilliant . I dont know what people are talking about but the last two years have been the best. I love the characters, especially Walter, Peter, Astrid and Olivia. I will remember them all long after the show is over. Kudos to you all.

  18. Devin on December 30th, 2012 10:55 pm

I’ll miss this wonderful show, now I see that there are websites that I can pull the show up through to watch; of course I dont have a good computer in my home so videostreaming is not available, how bout you put it so its available on netflix like damn near all shows are in this day and age!

  19. Joe Blessett on December 31st, 2012 1:33 am

I will miss Fringe and all the cast.

I haven’t seen season 5 yet because I wanted to rewatch all the episodes before it’s finally broadcasted on german TV. So as always it’s sad to say goodbye to something you love but I’m glad the show got the chance to END instead of just being cancelled. Thanks for that.
And you did a great job! All of you! 🙂

  25. Noelle on January 2nd, 2013 9:55 pm

Oh how I will miss Fringe!!!!! I came into the series a little late but have spent the last 3 years glued to the TV every week faithfully since! Kept you guessing and never bored! My 16 year old son bought me Seasons 1 and 2 for Christmas last year, I just bought Season 3 and will be getting 4 soon – you will always be my “go to” show for watching over and over again!!! And yes, please please a “Fringe Beyond” movie! You will be so missed!

  26. Unclean on January 6th, 2013 2:07 am

Ahh the internet. Where people can spout “good riddance” to things far beyond their comprehension. Dont like it? Dont watch it!

I’ve watched and truly enjoyed Fringe since the first few episodes and I hope we dont have to wait years for another truly amazing and interesting sci-fi show such as this. I like Arrow for what it is (no it’s not sci-fi) and will enjoy watching Seth on it in the coming episodes.

  27. Atlantis on January 7th, 2013 4:29 am

Incredible show, breathtaking. John Noble should have won the Emmy handily!

  28. Thomas Chapman on May 18th, 2013 12:02 am

Very sad to see it end,But I hope and sincerely wish that in the future there will be a movie with the original cast,That would be one of my Sci-Fi dreams come true!!We love you Fringe all of the Actors and team of directors that made it possible,Hope to see a movie in the very near future!.
