SEX AND THE CITY’s 15th Anniversary: Which Scene Stands Out to You the Most?

June 6, 2013 by

SEX AND THE CITY may have debuted 15 years ago (today!) on HBO, but personally, it’s still a part of my daily life: not only do I watch — and cover  — The CW’s THE CARRIE DIARIES, the prequel of Carrie Bradshaw’s life pre-SATC, but I also find myself often drawn into the syndicated run of SEX AND THE CITY on TV.

And while at this point I’ve probably seen the entire series as a whole over a dozen times, there are still one scene that particularly stands out and gives me chills whenever I see it…when Smith shaves his head for a cancer-stricken Samantha.

Obviously, there are dozens of great friendship and relationship scenes throughout the show’s six seasons, but something about the selfless love Smith displayed in this scene — especially given Samantha’s ongoing reluctance to be as serious about the relationship as he was — just works so perfectly, even all these years later. And when I think of SATC, this is one of the first scenes that comes to my mind.

So how about you? What scene (or scenes) stand out to you from SEX AND THE CITY all these years later?

For me it’s the combined scenes of Miranda bathing her ailing mother-in-law as Magda watches and then Magda telling her that what she did was the definition of love. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it and it has always stayed with me.
