ABC picked up CASTLE’s upcoming eighth season with one important piece missing: a deal in place for leading lady Stana Katic (Beckett) to continue with it.

Though the problem was eventually resolved — Katic signed a new contract to remain with the show — the network took a gamble things would work out.

After ABC’s executive session, ABC president Paul Lee declined to talk about whether he though the show would/could ever work with only one of the leads contracted to continue, and for how long the show might continue on.

“They both have contracts; we don’t have to talk about a hypothetical,” he told reporters. “We do love them. They’re so good in that show.”

Sounds like as long as Mr. Lee is there Stana and Nathan have a job.

The whole re-signing thing was badly handled ! No way the show would ever last without both leads. They could have tried but the majority of it’s audience would have left. Now it is just possible that ABC knew what a storm it would cause to release the info that both had not signed and it was just a way to get a lot of publicity. However they should not play games with their audience, it may just backfire!

I can’t trust them not to continue the show without one of the two leads next season. It’s pathetic.

Yes, I’m a die hard STANA fan and indeed, love HER ….. The only reason
why I’m still watching CASTLE. Otherwise, I’ll certainly miss HER if they let
HER go if & when, then I’ll take my LEAVE of Off the Show as well !!!

Mr. Lee loves Stana’s and Nathan. Mr. Lee loves Castle. Yes, he should. Castle has been so steady for ABC for 7 Seasons. The Castle fan base is so devoted. Glad N and S and the entire cast and crew are back and hopefully will be for more than just S8. Please ABC, advertise Castle more and do a Stana/Nathan interview soon.

@Tom Well…strictly speaking it’s been steady for six seasons. They tried some things in season 7 – starting with that season 6 finale and those things led to its usual steady average of 10 million viewers and 2.0 demo live ratings slipped to a 1.6 and 8.5. It still makes it a winner for the network though. Plus, as you said, this fan base is loyal and devoted, which is not to be taken lightly when deciding whether or not to keep a show. The changes that started happening on Castle in the second half of the season – especially in the last two episodes – are good signs of bringing those numbers back up this season. I’m looking forward to seeing more great Caskett and watching them and the team fighting off whatever big baddies the new showrunners throw at them.

Personally, I stopped watching the more Stana was featured. I don’t like Beckett. I find her quite unlikable with very little redeeming qualities. Add in the fact that I absolutely loathe Stana / Beckett fans, it is a miracle I still watch the show at all. For the last 4 years, the show has been pathetic, boring, and tedious. The best thing they could have ever done was have Castle and Beckett continue as partners, with him happily in love with someone else and Beckett doing what she does best, only caring about Beckett. Whatever chemistry they use to have is no longer there. It’s obvious they hate each other. I love Nathan but I can only take him in small doses when he’s in Castle mode, and I can’t tolerate Stana at all. Put them together, I am bored out of my mind.

Personally, I stopped watching the more Nathan was featured. I don’t like Richard. I find it quite underdeveloped and silly. Add in the fact that I absolutely loathe Nathan / Richard fans, it is a miracle I still watch the show at all. The best thing they could have ever done was have Castle and Beckett continue as partners, with him happily in love with someone else and Beckett doing what she does best, only caring about Beckett. I love Stana, and I can’t tolerate Nathan at all.

I cannot stand Nathan. You’re lucky you have your first hit show mainly because of Stana Katic & the wonderful cast of Jon, Seamus, Susan, Tamala et al. I personally can’t stand his high & mighty “people should be kind” bit when he continuously call strangers & those he dislike assholes! Can you be more unkind, dude??? Oh & before anything else… He should promote “Castle” the right way by using #hashtags when he’s live tweeting. Don’t volunteer to live tweet when you’re lazy & you conveniently forget to use #hashtags! What’s the point? You’ve been doing this for 7 seasons! People have noticed. You use #hashtags for other shows but not your own? What kind of kindness is that? Where it not for the talented Stana Katic coming back for Season 8, I’m done & gone.

Season 8 may be the last now with Nathan wanting to do a role called “Booster Gold”. If he’s gone, so will Stana go on to other things. Too bad, lots of people love that show. a one of a kind in today’s world.
