SCORPION’s second season kicks off on Monday, September 21st, and though on-screen the team has been fractured — with Cabe tasked with other work, and Walter recovering from his post-accident injuries — off-screen, the writers/producers have found their groove.

“Season 1 is always about the show finding its rhythm on a production level, how the cast will function together, how the characters will function,” SCORPION executive producer Alex Kurtzman acknowledged. “Season 1 was about a group of misfits that had been openly rejected by most of their own families, and came together to form their own surrogate family. So now they’ve become a family.”

But where does that family go next? I had the chance to screen the (very fun) season premiere, “Satellite of Love” and have a few teases…

[D]id Walter get hurt in the car crash? – @namu7 via Twitter

He actually did. When we pick up in season 2, viewers will learn how off he has been (only Cabe was allowed to visit him as he worked to get better) and how much progress he has to go. Unfortunately for the team, he only lets one person in on his limitations when they try to stop a Russian satellite from crashing into Southern California.

I didn’t think they’d go there so soon with a Waige kiss (from the Scorpion s2 promo). Is it all that it seems?! – ‏@mcr500 via Twitter

When I spoke with Kurtzman, I asked him what he could share about the tease from CBS that Paige and Walter would have to deal with the footage of her kissing him coming to light. His response also works very well for your question, too:

“That’s always a really complicated thing, because when you cross that line, what does that mean?” Kurtzman pointed out. “Things may not always appear as they seem, [but] that doesn’t mean it’s a dream sequence.”

(I will say, I was personally surprised — in a good way — by how the show handled Paige/Walter in the premiere.)

As much as I like Scorpion is Walter a little less arrogant & obnoxious s2?! Oh and any premiere Waige scoop plse?! – ‏@bombshelljo via Twitter

Well, Walter tells off someone he probably should be nicer to, but he’s also right, so…it might be a toss up for you with question one.

As for your second question, Walter and Paige have several very important/serious conversations…but they aren’t exactly alone for most of them.

And a few teases…

  • SCORPION has, somehow, made fungus romantic.
  • I didn’t know I needed Robert Patrick (Cabe) and guest star Gene Simmons bantering together in a scene until I watched the premiere. Thank you, SCORPION writers, for giving us that.
  • Alana De La Garza fits in so well. I know she has a new gig on CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS, but I truly hope SCORPION is able to utilize her more going forward.

Thanks for the scoop. Love this show – the action stuff is a little ridiculous but always fun, but most of all I just really like the characters and root for them. Well not always Walter when he’s being a jerk but he’s getting better, lol! I am rooting for Walter & Paige also so interested to see how the showpeeps deal with their relationship s2!
