SUPERSTORE: Justin Spitzer Previews a Memorable Photo Shoot in ‘Baby Shower’

SUPERSTORE is juggling two very different pregnancies in its fourth season: Dina (Lauren Ash), who is a surrogate for Glenn (Mark McKinney) and Jerusha (Kerri Kenney); Amy (America Ferrera), meanwhile, is pregnant by her ex-husband…while secretly in the midst of a new relationship with Jonah (Ben Feldman).

Thursday’s episode find the NBC comedy hosting a double baby shower for the expectant mothers—complete with the cliche games—while Dina is tasked with participating in a pregnancy photo shoot.

“We were talking about the differences between when a couple has a child and when it’s a surrogate,” SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer says. “Some people decide to take these pregnancy photos. [And] there are people who have their surrogate take these photos. So how would Dina react to being asked to take one of those? We talked about that, and what we wanted to see was Dina going wilder and wilder.”

As the photos from the episode indicate, Dina goes more than a little crazy with it, as she goes from a more conservative, holy look to Mrs. Claus and Beyoncé.

“We’re not a high-fashion show, but most of our characters get to at least change wardrobe episode to episode,” Spitzer points out. “Lauren almost never gets to [wear something different]. So to have one episode where we get to go nuts putting her in everything was fun. I think it was fun for her, [too].”
