Let’s talk about Monday’s TV!

THE VOICE: There were definitely a few more electric duets this time. I know we still have an episode left, but I’m truly not sure who the frontrunner/frontrunners are at this point. Will be curious to see what the surprise new round will be next week and how it might bring a few contestants to the top.

AMERICAN IDOL: Yikes. Ryan Seacrest is entitled to a sick day, but for as much grief as some reality hosts get, this was a good reminder it’s actually really, really difficult to do this and seem natural. (Cat Deeley and Carson Daly are also really great and underappreciated for what they do.) It’s felt for a while they were setting up Bobby Bones to take over for Seacrest whenever he decides he’s done with the series, but this was a mess.

As for the contestant group, they were significantly more lackluster than the first group. The duets felt even more unequal…when you have powerhouse professional singers who are getting the better parts or hitting killer notes, my goodness, it makes the contestants just fade into the background. And that’s not fair to them.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: Aw, Nate and Hank finally got to a sweet place, so of course he had to (seemingly) die. Of course, dead is not always dead on an ARROWverse show, but it does feel like a natural place for that story to end—they had resolution, were on a good path, etc.

It was fun to see the Legends and their forced honesty, but the rest of the episode was just fine.
