Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: Joana Martinez is a better contestant than the songs she’s singing. Don’t get me wrong: “Impossible” is a great song. But it’s a VERY tough song that few artists outside of Christina Aguilera can actually pull off. Katie Kadan had actually had less questionable choices in the past, but picking Adele was also a not-great choice.

Picking songs isn’t easy, and it’s often doomed great singers on the show. The only one who really pleasantly surprised me this week was Marybeth Byrd’s “Lose You to Love Me”…it felt like the first time she made my personal top 3 of the week.

PRODIGAL SON: Uh, that grandmother was messed. up.

The fall finale set a lot of things in motion, and I’m really excited to see how things play out in 2020. Like, there is zero way Martin handles his son being taken well…so the question is how far he’ll take it. And given how traumatized Bright already is, how bad will this mess him up? [For more on the fall finale, here’s what the EPs had to say.]
