DAISY JONES & THE SIX: Amazon Bosses on the Original Songs, the Search for Billy

Amazon is adapting the delightful DAISY JONES & THE SIX, the wildly addictive book by Taylor Jenkins Reid about the rise and fall of a fictional band, into a 13-episode limited series, but it’s still missing a key component: Billy Dunne. (Pablo Schreiber provided the voice of the character in the Audible audiobook; Amazon has cast Riley Keough as Daisy Jones, while Camila Morrone will play Camila Dunne.)

“It is incredibly important [casting],” Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios, said during the streaming platform’s executive session during TCA. “And we’re doing a global search. We’ve been thrilled with the cast we’ve assembled so far, so we’ve gotta nail it. So it’s taken some time, but we’ll find the right person.”

But they have taken a big step forward with one vital element: the series’ music. (In the novel, the group Daisy Jones & The Six produces an album, and Billy and Daisy also produce solo music.)

“We went to meet [executive producer] Reese Witherspoon and her team to hear the music actually in the setting where Fleetwood Mac recorded, which was so incredible; it’s really pretty much a preserved area deep in the Valley,” Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios said. “We sat in there and we listened to the probably seven original songs that are written for the show. And let’s just say there were chills and tears. So we’re really thrilled with it.”
